Has anything been addressed with this. I had hoped my problems were gone with the game swap I did, but here we are again. I have been playing with the game copied to HD with no issues for two weeks since I took the game back to Gamestop and they replaced it.

But today, I load up and when I go to My Xbox, the system sees the game disc like it's a movie DVD (shows "Play DVD"). If I shutdown and restart 5 or 6 times, it will finally see it as the DA:O disc. I had to exit the game and once again, it is reading it as a movie DVD. I've also tried this on another Xbox and it is doing the same thing. Intermittently reading the disc as a movie DVD,

Any word on possible causes?

Same thing, really. Got the game, popped in the DLC disc. It worked at first, but absolutely wouldn't install the Awakening Expansion. So, I put in Disc 1, and got an update. Now, Disc 2 will not even pick up in the drive. It goes from "Reading..." to "Open Tray", as if there's nothing there. No hardware issue, since I can play pretty much every other game I own, including Mass Effect 2, CoD:BO, Dead Rising 2, and many more without problems.

EDIT:
Tried clearing the system cache, to see if it'd work again, as well as uninstalling Dragon Age from the 360 Hard Drive. Now, neither Dragon Age Disc works, though every other game still works. Personally, I'm leaning towards the Discs and/or patch being the problem. Shoddy quality.

Looks like Bioware botched everything up, again.

Hello,

I don't know if anyone is interested to hear this, but I got a replacement for my Dragon Age Origins Ultimate Edition for PC and now the disc works fine. Maybe the initial batches contain faulty or poor quality discs. Ultimately we get what we pay for.

My situation is slightly different than the accounts here it's the strangest thing; but I've been keeping track of the details.

Process: 1) install DA:O ultimate disc 2 additional content pack
process: 2) insert disc 1 - says update or you'll be signed out of xbox live. accept update
process: 3) disc unreadable, please clean disc. However still identifies disc as DA:O in dashboard.
process: 4) purchase game from Games on Demand (I really wanted to play this game)
process: 5) remove disc entirely from console,
process: 6) attempt to 'start game' of DA:O purchased from Games on demand from hard drive
process: 7) disc unreadable, please clean disc. OF THE VERSION OF DA:O I BOUGHT FROM XBOX STORE!
process 8:)  clear the cache, load game from CD, decline update, signed out of Xbox live
process 9) Game works and plays perfect... except it says ALL DLC CORRUPT.
process 10) reload game, prompt for update, accept update, disc unreadable
process 11) deleted ALL Dragon Age content off HDD, cleared cache, Re-Downloaded from games on demand.
process 12) boot games on demand version with NO DLC and NO PATCHES on HDD
process 13) prompt for update of signed out of xbox live, accept update,
process 14) disc unreadable.  the GAMES ON DEMAND DISCFREE VERSION OF DA:O cannot boot because it's non-existing disc cannot be read.
process 15) clear cache, again no updates, no disc 2 additional content on HDD, decline update, Games on demand version works again

Result:  I have spent $59.99 on the physical copy of the ultimate edition AND $29.99 on the Games on Demand version, and now having spent over $100 after tax on this single one game and it's expansions; I still have no idea what the game plays like.  I feel like I'm caught up in a web of DRM overlap, when I should be rewarded for pouring a ****ton of money into owning this game front to back.

I usually buy both the physical and digital copies of a game I like; as the Xbox "install game" feature is entirely useless when you still swap out discs; sacrificing 6GB of HDD just for marginally better load times is a waste of space, but for convenience AND better load times, it's worth the HDD space, I just would like to have at least TRIED this game before buying both versions, and now that I've bought both versions... i would still love to eventually be able to play the game.

I don't understand why the game works when i remove all the updates at the expense of murdering the DLC, or why the update just murders everything physical disc, Games on demand version or otherwise.

I'm not going to start an in game campaign until i can do so without being signed out of xbox live, and having none of the benefit of the ultimate content because without the update that makes the disc unreadable the additional content is corrupt.

I should also mention that I work for the Canadian electronics and video games retailer Audiotronic.  How am I supposed to confidently relay to my customers about the quality of this game, when I've spent over $100 and it still doesn't work.  Right now, I can only relay my experience of trying to get the game to work, not of the game itself.

Sounds like a clash between the different versions to me. DA: UE registers as a different game as it were on the BioWare account, so it might be a problem there.

However, given that your 360 states you have an unreadable disc (seemingly quite a common thing) I would suggest taking it back to where you purchased it.

Have "standards" really changed that much in the past 10 years? Bad discs happen.  Last time I had a bad disc was with Everquest Planes of Power, but still it happens. (Funny story, I called back Best Buy and asked if they had any left, they said a few, and I was like save me one... and they were like "Oh we can't save these, not on launch day" and I was like "let me speak to a manager as I am returning a flawed disc, you should be able to save me a replacement copy" and the manager agreed to hold one back for me, AND i was able to get the exclusive statue that I didn't get the first visit cause they hadn't opened those crates yet on my first visit)

Ok, if not even the Games on Demand version is working that's weird... When you deleted the game content, were you sure to deleting it via the games list? By this I mean when you are looking at your game files, press Y and "Delete Dragon Age Origins" completely... just going in and deleting each file individually might not work properly.  For example, I know that Mass Effect has "hidden" files even on the 360, that even if you delete every save, Mass Effect 2 will still be able to import your save games, unless you do as I said here, deleting the TITLE which would clear the hidden files too.

Just wanted to join the fray. Went back to Dragon Age
Origins (standard edition) and getting the same disc read errors, mostly it doesn't even recognize the game is in the drive. It works after numerous attempts and fussing with it. The disk is perfectly clean, no scratches, and all my other games work fine. I have an older model 360 and the game is installed to hdd.

Is it confirmed that there is a bad disc issue and replacement discs are available? If so, how do you get a replacement disc (beside buying it used at gamestop, swapping discs then returning the game)?

[Edit]  I just tried to register the game on this site and it says the code is not valid,... strange

I am suffering from much the same problem, is there no cure out there? I lack xbox live as well. so if they have made any patch out there to fix it i would not be able to use it, if not. what is it? A bum disk? I use a original 360, is it a hardware fault? a software fault? Bad luck? All of the above? I really don't know, i have tried all the suggested solutions and like the majority of you they did not work. I really would like to keep the game, but if i go out and switch mine for a new one, would it even matter? would it help?

I would really like some assistance with this.

Hi guys !

Same here !!!!!

Today arrived my Ultimate Edition and the first dvd is ok,everything's fine, but the second doesn't work, tried on 2 different consoles with different dvd reader and motherboard, same problem not reading disk.

The disk is perfect !

I bought it from a uk site,it's not easy for me to have a replace !

At least give us a choice by showing you a proof of purchase to download all the disk 2 content !

If you want I even make a video of the bug !

I look forward to hearing from you Bioware, don't let us down !!

I report the same problem with the disk 2 of the Ultimate Edition arrived yesterday from Amazon.co.uk !

I tried the 2nd disk on two different consoles(different motherboard and different dvd drive)it always try to read and after some lens difficulties it says open tray,or play(by pressing play it says that the disk is dirt)

The disk is perfect,no signs or scratch !

Having the refund from Amazon, for me is quite difficult and boring !

If people who have this problemsshow you a proof of purchase and registered game code can you give us,for example, all the content of the 2nd disk by dlc code ????

Please let us know !

I'm very disappointed that in stores was released a bugged dvd !

Please Bioware, don't let us down !

Truthfully I think such an issue would need to be directed at EA.

In the UK, your purchase would be with the vendor (Amazon.co.uk) and not with BioWare anyway. As much as that sounds like a pain, it is the most viable option. Although in the back of the manual there is a thing about replacement discs; have you read that yet?

As a matter of fact I've already contact both Ea and Amazon !

With Amazon it's all ok(very very client-friendly),now I am waiting an answer from EA and Bioware !

It'so simple if they give some sort of dlc codes in change of a proof of purchase !

With the exception of not giving a straight forward and consistent answer on the DA2 promos I think Amazon.co.uk's customer service is pretty decent. I've never personally had a problem when having to deal with them on returns and stuff.

The suggestion of giving codes for the dlc may seem viable though I have my doubts. After all Awakening is also on the second disc is it not? They would also need to somehow allow you to have a copy of that as well. And by doing that...you no longer need the disc. The less scrupulous may sell that on. I'm not saying you will, just merely pointing out that as a business decision it leads to a slippery slope.

Of course there have been cases where manufacturers recall faulty products, but I don't think this has been the case with DA: UE for the 360. Perhaps the problem is limited to a specific batch and is easier and cheaper to replace.

The PC has a way of using what you suggested via the EA download manager I think, where proof of purchase or somesuch will allow you to download a digital copy. Perhaps one day in a close to download only future we will see something like that being implemented.

This is ridicolous,i wrote to EA uk explaining the problem, they advise me to talk with EA Italy,I contact them, they say they haven't commercialised that version so they can't do nothing so they invite me to contact Microsoft support as regards Xbox Marketplace ?!?!?!?!

THIS IS CRAZY.

I would suspect that BioWare isn't involved in the manufacturing; I'd guess that that is EA's department.

Question: aren't Amazon.co.uk going to exchange your copy?

Amazon can't replace due to missing item from their store.

I have been refunded but I want a reply from EA first and secondly from Bioware if they can give me dlcs,I don't care if I was refunded,it's not a professional behaviour.

I can understand the frustration, though honestly I can't see them acting the way you'd want them to. (Your contract with regards the purchase was never with EA/BioWare but with Amazon.co.uk who have dealt with it.)

Good luck in your endeavours though.

Seeing that you have a specific case of a disc read error (as it were) it sounds like the fault lies with the discs. In which case I would suggest you check the condition of the discs for scratches or warping. If the problem was the drive itself I would have suspected every game, every disc, to be affected.

Also try the more mundane stuff like repositioning the disc as you place it into the tray.
