I've got an idea. If you are so put upon and offended by an upskirt. Maybe you shouldn't zoom in close, slo mo and replay that game save over and over while adjusting the camera "just so".

It is something you would have to go out of your way to even notice:)

I didn't even notice that Isabela didn't have shorts the first time I watched the trailer. Nor the second, or the third.
Until I entered the forums and saw all the people complaining.

Ditto.

Some people are just hyper sensative to this type of thing. Eyes always go straight to the crotch.

This.
And also, the fact that many people will pause the trailer every second just to catch every freaking detail.
And then have a reason to complain at the forums.

Seriously. You'd have to frame by frame just to see some of the stuff people choose to complain about. My goodness.

Have you seen what a typical plate of armor looks like?  It is not flat. It is rounded not hugging tight to the body and if boob notches are so much better at deflecting blows, why don't all armors have then in relife.

There isn't really single, universal design of plate armour that'd last across centuries, is there? So while it's not something that's present in every armour out there, some did sport such enhanced curvature though in form of a "unibreast", so to speak. Consider http://commons.wikim...Zbroja_1514.JPG  Why do you think the curve of chest bulge on this armour is quite sharper than male anatomy would otherwise require? I'd say that's because sharper angles do help to deflect the blows, as noted.

The very aricle you bring up shows more of such designs, and actually makes a point how this bulge could be used to accomodate woman's breasts. So in a way yes, "all armours" do make use of this concept, although obviously to different degree, and in different ways.

Oh I know that, at the time I couldn't find another word to describe the ones that came to a point but I guess pointy is the best descriptor after all.  But I did mention earlier that they would accomodate the breast without having to make bulges for each breast.  The article also brings up a good point in that there is no universial shape for breasts as well.

And, yet, many more people noticed the first time they saw the trailer. Without slow-mo, adjusting light settings, capping every shot, or so on.

There appear to be a lot of crotch minded individuals playing this game.

I legitimately wonder if it stems from sexual repression... and if not, what it does stem from.

You know what else isn't going to help in battle? Long hair. Loose cloth--like that hip rag she has. Dangly jewelry that can be grabbed onto. Any tied clothing like the corset thing she wears that could restrict breathing. Also, boots that high, from personal experience, do nothing to help you run or move around. Nothing else she wears is practical. Her lack of pants has nothing to do with practicality. Loose shorts are not going to restrict her movement. I'm sure we're not going to see male rogues run into battle with a similar outfit.

Given the ancient Olympic gymnasts did in fact compete in the buff if i recall it right, i'd say the clothes in our modern times are more of mandatory modesty-related inconvenience than anything else. Don't they have regulations about length of tennis player skirts and such? Posted Image

Since it was brought up twice, their lack of clothing actually had little to do with freedom of movement--it was more closely associated with Spartan pedastry and looking aesthetically pleasing. They also anointed themselves with olive oil--you know, greased up.

Mail (Chain, Scale, Splint, Ring) is forgiving to all the curves of the female figure, no need to have different molds, they form fit.
For plate they need to be custom made so they do need to accommodate the breast, this doesn't mean that each needs it's own armor cone though.

Thank you. <3

This covers mail, certainly. But not molded leather armor. And Isabela would never wear mail anyways because its weight would encumber her fighting style.

A leather tunic isn't molded which she could wear nor would it restrict any movement.

An untempered and unmolded leather tunic also does not afford much protection, rating only slightly lower than a thick wool sweater. So what's the point?

Thats why you wear a hauberk or a doublet underneath it.

Good for you, I'm not going to play that game.

I'll end this with "you and more of it!"

This isn't serious business, and it annoys me a lot that this kind of thing is nitpicked.

This is actually historically inaccurate. While pederasty was common in other city states, most notably in Athens, it is not a prevading aspect of Greek culture. Most people just, incorrectly, assign everything that Athens did to the rest of Greek society. The Spartans did not have a tradition of pederasty as the Athenians did and often ridiculed them for these practices. They also did not share the Athenian ideals for what was aesthetically pleasing.

Furthermore. If one searches into the Athenian writings on this subject, it is made clear that grown male adults, which were the competitors on these games, were never assigned modes of attractiveness and all of these practices were reserved for young, unbearded boys.

But then, for some reason, people tend to over sexualise the Greeks and their practices. So I can hardly blame the slip.

Then don't bring up what your personal experience means. I didn't go out of my way--many others did not. I just noticed because it happened several times. Just because you didn't notice doesn't mean that no one did--you claimed otherwise.

Beowulf is controversial at best. Scholars still argue about that one as it was written by Christian Anglo Saxons...and you have to remember that Vikings were considered a pagan culture. Much of the history we got about those cultures was written by the Church which basically controlled everything at that time. It wasn't until archeological study that we learned more of what was true about them.

I thought you'd ask me about  Skald poetry or Lebor Gabala.

Jacob Taylor's radical, triangular shaped body-builder physique.  But it wasn't like there were scenes of the dude stepping out of the shower with his shirt off or anything.  Just the occasionally hilarious panning shots starting off at his crotch and making their way up.

Still had nothing on the HEY CHECK OUT MIRANDA'S ASS shots every time she was in a scene.

Rather than this horrific back and forth over sexism and the impracticality of her clothing, perhaps what this thread needs is something constructive. What do you think she, a pirate captain, should be wearing?

I liked that, if you put a light armor in a male, he would still be using a skirt. I also don't know what would be considered as sexualized... a shirtless man? Isabela at least have the "ME NEEDZ FREEDOM TO JUMP AND KILL THINGS AND SHOW MA LEGS", what's the excuse of a shirtless man?
