If she was to be realistic her hair would be short, and that cloth wouldn't be conveniently covering her ass. (sometimes) that jewerly wouldn't be there and she wouldn't be wearing that head...thing. (isn't sure what to call it).

Err... she's a pirate? Last I checked, the popular image of a pirate involves a lot of jewelry and a bandana on the head (or a hat). It keeps the hair from getting blown around in the wind as much. Heck, do a google image search for pirate (male or female) and I bet you'll find plenty of bejeweled pirates in impractical clothing.

Male characters need to fight in their underwear ala 300. Then balance will be restored.

I somewhat agree with this as do many other female players, there is an abundance of boots, loincloth, helmet Alistair pictures on the gush thread...

So she can have scurvy, lice, ticks, & bilge rats too? If you use the pirate excuse you should take the whole image of a pirate not just what you want.

Scurvy wasn't a huge problem for pirates.  They didn't go on long, blue water voyages without access to fruits and vegetables.  Nor was it a problem for coastal sailors who simply didn't take long voyages at all.

In any case, judging by the geography of Thedas, I expect pirates such as Isabela would be hugging the coasts most of the time anyway.

When have I ever argued for realism? Actually, if you had read what I posted, I said, "the popular image..." I don't think the popular image of the swashbuckling sexy pirate involves any of those things, do you?

Captain Jack Sparrow, everyone thinks he is sexy, yet he looks like the only grooming he gets is when he is thrown overboard.

Hell I meant any serious fighter and not just a pirate.

Popular images =! realistic.

as anyone who looks in a magazine could tell you

I thought people didn't have long hair back then because of lice? And hair blowing around in wind doesn't help when someone can grab it.

And what about the cloth covering her ass? Other than something for her enemies to grab at what purpose does it serve? She's clearly not trying to be modest.

This is a very deep statement. In the context of video games, I would like you to think about the difference between what it is to be popular and what it is to be realistic, and what that difference means for the commercial success of DA2 and possible sequels.

Captain Jack Sparrow, everyone thinks he is sexy, yet he looks like the only grooming he gets is when he is thrown overboard.

I'm not sure what you're arguing here. Is it that people are sexually attracted women with poor hygiene, or that you don't think Jack Sparrow is sexy, or something else entirely?

You talked about the "popular" image of a pirate. Jack is the quintessential pirate & he is dirty & not at all hygienic. So therefore if you use the excuse that isabela wears no pants & a gold neck-brace because she is a pirate you have to go with the idea that she doesn't bathe often (if at all) & is most likely covered in lice &/or ticks

She probably is. Given the game settings though, it could probably be asked if there's actually that many people who aren't.

...Seeing as Dragon Age got along just fine without people being pantless....

As did Mass Effect 1.

Heck. I wonder is Halo commecially successful because you can see bare ass or because it's a good game?

Oh wait-! ;)

...Gross. ...I don't think anyone bathes often in Fereldan...just imagining the stench...

Isabela is ****ty, and so she wears a ****ty outfit. Not everyone is going to wear a ****ty outfit, but that doesn't mean everyone will dress like a nun or that nobody in Thedas in ****ty.

To be fair, if you watch older pirate movies, like ones with Errol Flynn and assorted other Hollywood stars of yore, they're prety clean-cut for swashbuckling pirates. :P I think with Isabela they're going for the more idealized version of the dashing pirate captain rather than the modern Captain Jack Sparrow look.

@upsettingshorts: LOL! And if you missed my response on Zardoz pages ago, the short version is that yes, it really is as trippy as people say (to date it still qualifies as the strangest movie I've ever seen - hehe).

They only get "raged" because you're always going around saying "LOOK AT ALL THE RAGED FANGIRLS".

I don't see how claiming something is sexist makes one rage.
