Still longer than the average game.

And that's sad if that's the average length of a game now. I guess there are a lot of players that don't realize how badly they are getting ripped with the current games....especially the cinematic junk that has very little game in it. I think the devs are more interested in trying to be authors or film directors than trying to develop an actual game. It's an insult as well with them ripping most of the decision making process out of games now...but I guess that the trend audience they now aim for.

There we are!  In bold, the crux of the issue.  Lots of cinematics mean lots of story.  If you would rather see less story and more chosing equipment and managing potions and reading chat trees, then yes, every major release these days is going to disapoint you.  I'm sorry for you, but you have to understand most people want a story their character is part of.  And movies are fantastic ways to tell a story.

Story.  Story.  Story.  :wizard:

If you want RPG mechanics without a story, that's what MMOs are.

So we were told that chainmail bikins were never going to be included in DA2, understandable. But what's with having Isabela wear an outfit so short that we can see butt every time she jumps? Or is this the current fad? Side boobs for 2009 and butts for 2011.

If I recall she is a quick and lightly armored melee artist who used speed as her defense. She wears unencumbering clothing in order to move fast. Flash and distractions are part of her fighting style, showing a little bum works for me.

They can't even remain consistant half the time.

"The Orcs were good guys but turned into bad guys but turned into good guys but turning back into bad guys because the good guys are good guys and there's no bad guys so make the good guys into bad guys making it good guys versus bad guys that used to be good guys that were bad guys turned from good guys."

Damn!   Excellent summation.   I am stealing this, sir!  I'm totally going to bust this out on my still addicted WoW friends.  :)

And that's where you fail to understand what RPG is. If you want a story, read a book or watch a movie. If you want to develop your own character in a world that you have loads of interaction with, that's RPG. Character develop...not a character already developed by some script writer.

One could argue that rogues don't wear armor but I admit the upskirt shot was a bit much.

If she were wearing tiny hot pants, it'd be better. I just think the panty shot every time she fights is a bit much. Combined with the totally confirmed gigantic bazooka breasts on every female model.

This is heaven for some. :innocent:

I have never had a problem with the eye candy as long as it didn't affect gameplay. Sadly, a bit much for some is not enough for others. I pity the devs who have to find the middle ground when with the multitude of different tastes...it's  impossible to please everyone, especially when they think they are the only ones who need to be pleased.;)

I was surprised when I returned to my NES collection and was capable of beating games in 5-10 minutes that used to take me hours.

We're starting with ANOTHER thread of "What's a RPG?".

We can still save the thread. What the hell, it'll get locked anyway.

Sooo.. We're not playing an RPG because we're playing a game that involves someone else's RPG?

It's pizza sauce covered in cheese and peperoni slapped into an oven.

Forget the crust, just use pizza sauce.

Don't worry, before long we'll have an open discussion thread where the same five people will argue against five others for all eternity with one guy wanting the game to turn into Heavy Rain

I enjoyed Heavy Rain, though I wished there was a few more options and branches instead of the game essentially being the same thing on each playthrough.

Having only played a portion of Heavy Rain and not the entire thing I am not really one to judge soley based on that whether or not ME or DA should end up like that. But I have played through Indigo Prophecy and I could see the gameplay similarities. I would not want the game to end up like that because those are basically adventure games and negate much of the point and focus of the RPG and RPG hybrid genre.

Plus Fahrenheit was 65% QTE's and games are better with 0% QTEs

How can you possibly have "loads of interaction" and develope your character without story?

Story is how a player interacts with people and what they choose to value and what they choose to destroy.  That's developing a character.  A character isn't 14 STR, 18 DEX, 11 WIS.  A character is "at age seven he put his body between his beaten mother and enraged father and said 'if you touch her again, I will kill you myself.'"

The old RPGs, the NWNs and the BG's... it is an awful tiny crowd that looks back and says, "man, remeber when I got to level 11 and  I had to choose to go two points in CON or one in WIS and one in DEX?  Good times!"  Most people look back and go "wtf, I'm his son?!

You want an RPG withouth story... that's Excel.  That's managing your numers to make the good ones high and the bad ones low.

That if you can actually use talents like flash and distractions that incorporate her outfit, otherwise it's fanservice.

Hmm, it started off as something about chainmail bikinis...and now it has, like countless other threads, officially devolved into what constitutes an RPG? Do people ever get tired of doing that? Well, maybe in this case "devolve" isn't quite the word I should be using, considering that the topic WAS chainmail bikinis...

I think those kinds of RPGs would come in handy in policing some of the threads here - heh.
