So last night i was playing empire total war with some friends and was starting a french empire.  Anyway I accidently call my french empire, the orlesian empire (can't get da out of my head). So wouldn't dragon age make a good total war game?

I suppose it could. I mean, a popular mod for an earlier game in the series is Third Age: Total War about Middle Earth.

It's an entirely different genre though.

Because we definitely need Dragon Age to go the way of Halo Wars, that seemed like a good idea at the time too.

I like the Total War series because their fun RTS games. I like DA because the story and characters are so memorable. I'm not sure you can combine the two and not be dissapointed honestly in a game genre thats more focused on large armies and not singular characters and their interpersonal stories. Though must admit it would be fun to control an entire darkspawn horde.

Don't you dare compare the Total War series to Halo Wars.  And would anyone on this board really care if Bioware licensed the Dragon Age universe to Creative Assembly and let them go to town while they moved on to DA3 or whatever?  Well, they probably would, but they'd be just as misguided as ever.

I could see a spin-off of Dragon Age as a RTS

Actually, it would probably be an awesome game in the style of Total War. Having to unite the land and raise the armies to take it on.

Hmm......

And yeah Halo Wars is most certainly NOT Total War. VERY, VERY different games.

Of course it seemed like a good idea.  It had all the key ingredients for an awesome experience: It had HALO on it.  What more is necessary?  Oh wait...

So how would the folks who did Total Wars react to: "Hey guys, why not take Total War and get personal with it? Get some in-depth story lines like in DA? Yeah, we can split off from the main campaigns and go on quests and stuff?"

How would they react to that? And if it's a positive reaction, then there it is, isn't it? Your answer. Now all you have to do is wait for them to come out with the new Total War mod. Complete with quests and everything.

C'mon folks. Isn't that part of what the problem is around gaming communities. Those wanting other game genre to modify more to their likes. Let the games be the games. If you want RPG, then let it stay RPG. If you want FPS, then go find an FPS game (there's plenty of each out there). Or whatever it is you want to play. Keep it simple. Let the companies continue to do what they have proven they do best.

Um, no one is asking the Dragon Age series to change into an RTS.

I don't get how people can act so threatened by the suggestion that the setting for an RPG would make for a good (insert genre here).

And you'd be amused how many mods incorporate RPG elements into those games, especially when it comes to "levelling" up generals and governors, for example.

^^^ I think the idea wasn't to make total war into an RPG, but to have Total War with elements of the races in Dragon Age.

Instead of France - Orlesians.

Instead of England - Felrelden.

Instead of Mongols - Darkspawn or whatever.

Instead of Pope - Chantry.

So not with quests and that, but the strategy / army building side of things.

Ok, so maybe I read a little more into it. And I'll apologize for that. I'll just....be....going...now...

Something between Total War and King Arthur wargame would be a nice fit for the DAO setting.

i thought about this a while ago and i think it would be brilliant and Gavinthelocust comparing Halo wars to Total war is like comparing Dragon age's gameplay to that of Borderlands

IMO, Bioware should stick to RPGs. They could of course license the IP to another studio, but I wouldn't be interested in such an RTS. It's pretty plain that you'd like it, however, so you just keep on hoping...
...But leave the Mongols alone! Leave 'em alone!

I meant the group that invade in Medieval Total War 2 - The ones that sweep across the land taking over everything.

In hindsight (IF ONLY I HAD THE BELT!!!) I probably should have made that clearer.

I'd love to play a Total War-like game (Turn-based grand strategy w/ real-time tactical battles. I wouldn't like an RTS, esp. if it's the typical Warcraft/Starcraft/C&C/Dune2-type RTS) set in the world of Dragon Age.

IMHO, it'd be cooler if one of the future DA games had the best of both: the grand strategy and large scale battles of a Total War game, and a great RPG...all in one package.

Yeah, but doing both genres justice would be impossible without something resembling infinite time and resources.
