Dragon Age: Total War Mabari War Dog units ftw!

Ha, those units got so much flak on the TW Center boards.  In fact, most of RTW got panned for its brazen historical inaccuracies that are too many to list.

Still didn't prevent me from invading Gaul with an entirely War Dog army.  At the end of the campaign I was left with 16 or so elite-level War Dog units.  I then spread them out so each of my armies had one.  It amused me.

So how would the folks who did Total Wars react to: "Hey guys, why not take Total War and get personal with it? Get some in-depth story lines like in DA? Yeah, we can split off from the main campaigns and go on quests and stuff?"

How would they react to that? And if it's a positive reaction, then there it is, isn't it? Your answer. Now all you have to do is wait for them to come out with the new Total War mod. Complete with quests and everything.

C'mon folks. Isn't that part of what the problem is around gaming communities. Those wanting other game genre to modify more to their likes. Let the games be the games. If you want RPG, then let it stay RPG. If you want FPS, then go find an FPS game (there's plenty of each out there). Or whatever it is you want to play. Keep it simple. Let the companies continue to do what they have proven they do best.

Isnt World of Warcraft a spin-off from the Warcraft RTS? Well that was succesfull.

(Im a total noob about the World of / Warcraft seris, having never played them)

Or they could just make a codex entry to explain that.

Yeah, I wouldn't want to play Dragon Age: Total War to "learn" but to develop generals and royal families and then have them lead armies in real time, compelling battles.

Adding the occasional magic user into those kinds of pitched, set-piece battles would be interesting too. Sort of like squishy siege weapons. Sieges would be out of this world. It'd be a fun game if done right, definitely.

Would mages not just make everything too easy or confusing i mean Wilhelm and shale are described as being a two man army in the calling and it would get a bit annoying if you have an elite group of soldiers just for them to be wiped out by lightning and fire from a few mages.

If you're fighting say, the Tevinter Imperium?  Possibly.  Otherwise mages are too few and most armies wanted nothing to do with them, despite how helpful they were.

They'd have to be limited in number though.

As far as Shale and other golems, they strike me as similar to war elephants - and armies had ways of dealing with them too.

That being said I haven't read any of the ME or DA books and don't expect I will.

The models for the Fereldan Army includes both female and male warriors. They better get that straight.

We don't know much about other countries in the game. So if the concept of this game were to be serious, it'd be after DA3 or more.

The lack of really viable dwarvish and elvish factions would suck for a strategy game

But females nonetheless. Random generator with 4:1 ratio would be adequate.

Also is anybody else excited about Shogun 2?

War is awesome.

Flemeth seems to have an army of Witches or Dragon cult against the templars and the Chantry. Yay for war!

Good thing I have a good military salary then, cause I'm getting a new computer sometime soon. (Just wish they'd confirm the whole cross-platform save transfer or not)

You're missing the point.  The premise of this thread is, more or less, a developer like Creative Assembly making a game based in the Dragon Age universe.  Nothing would change regarding Bioware's Dragon Age RPGs.

Why?

Yes, even though I fully expect the Strategic AI to be as laughably incompetent as it has since they changed to a 3D campaign map.  Oh, and the Battle AI has been touted as "improved" for every installment despite minimal - if at all - gains in actual performance.  Still gonna buy it though, they've got me hooked.

Because I like playing Elves and Dwarves?

Ah okay, I thought you meant that it was a universal truth or something.  Check out the Third Age mod for Medieval 2: Total War.  Plenty of elves and dwarves to be had.  And orcs and stuff.

I like the AI incompetent it lets me pretend i'm actually a military genius when playing against an opponent that gets confused by cavalry going behind it every time. Though i hated empire for the reason that my own men got confused by me foolishly telling them to move forward as a coherent formation.

I would buy it, but I want it done with the Shogun 2 engine. The trick would be balancing "hero" units and their personalities in among the rank and file men and women, but picture your orderly lines of Silver Knights advancing with a single half drunk dwarf sauntering through them, or a red headed archer lass strutting a few paces ahead of your troops and dropping a couple dozen arrows an absurd distance down on the enemy...

It would rock hard.
