Unless I am mistaken Kotor 2 was the last game of this type to have cloaks. I don't recall them being in anything else(at least off the top of my head). Why they weren't in DAO is beyond me. Are they in Awakening? I haven't played that one yet. If not.....GET ON THE BALL BIOWARE!!! Add some bad ass cloaks, capes, cowls, etc, etc for DA2.

I always think of The Incredibles when cloaks or capes are brought up.
I always think of KOTOR 2. Seriously Bioware, if Obsidion can do it with KotOr 2, then why cant you?
And its not exactly a waste of time, because in KotOR 2, i wore the Jedi Robes the entire game.

How many soldiers, today and in the past, fought in cloaks or capes? They would really get in the way.
Not many soldiers did, but Rouges, Assassins, Alchemists(cloaks), Clerics, Priests(capes)do. At least a bunch of the ones portrayed. Not only do cloaks help keep an assassin's identity secret and reduce visibility, but they also reduce weather extremes on the wearer (rain, cold).

It's an extra model that requires a lot of extra work. They don't need it for the game to work, so they remove it and add something extra with the funding they could use with it.
This is pretty much it. Cloaks are like horses, in that they would be really cool to include-- and it always comes up, and we always try to include them-- but they're very firmly on the "nice to have" list. Not only are they "nice to have" but they're part of a unique group which manages to be surprisingly expensive to do properly, as expensive as many things we need on the "must have" list.
So inevitably at some point we have to set them aside in favor of our "must haves" and any "nice to haves" that we can get to which are less expensive. This is why you tend to see things like this in sequels (where many of the "must haves" are already done).
Had we not revamped the graphical system for DA2 (which we felt was very much needed) I'm sure we could have included them. Hopefully this is the sort of thing we can get to in the future, because in my opinion they'd add a lot of flavor.

I agree with this guy.
I actually like KotOR 2 more than KotOR 1 for various reasons, but being able to wear those awesome Jedi Robes was one of them.
If, in DA2, we could wear cloaks or robes, i would like the game a lot more.

On the thought of clothes I have a question Mr. Gaider...
Can our companions wear different armor like in the original Dragon Age? Or are they stuck with one set of clothes via Mass Effect 2?

With all this technology and all this untapped power still lurking in this current generation of game consoles you would figure they would have mastered cloak making by now. I mean seriously....they did it pretty decent on the original Xbox hardware and that was 6, 7 years ago.
Because technology is a lot more complex for developers compared to 5, 10, 20 years ago. Even the best studios (ID Software, Cryteck, Valve, Epic Games, etc) focused on graphics can't include everything.

That is crazy! lol! It really is that expensive to do? Some company out there needs to get creative and find a good, easier way to make them. BTW, I am very glad you guys opted to upgrade the graphics. lol! I'll just leave it at that.

Look at FPSs, they focus all their budget on gameplay and graphics. They usually have a crap story and are very shortDazaster Dellus wrote...

An RPG needs to have a good writing, good gameplay, long gameplay lenght, lots of voice acting, decent graphics etc.
GTA 4 ,for example, had a $100M budget
