White Teeth! - an immediate must-have.

WTF.
Gritty, fairly dark medival fantasy world on the verge of something borderline apocalyptic. Catastrophic event where people in southern reaches of entire Kingdom get either slaughtered or turn into rwretched, homeless refugees. Civil war.  Main character and his partry  who spend majority of game in wilderness, swamps, tombs. And perfect pepsodent smiles for everyone
WTF. :P

Improved Atmosphere
Small, subtle changes that don't try to take over from the game underneath, but add a detail here, another there. Most of it is very well executed. Increasingly worried about itemization though. At least towards the start of the game I keep coming across several items that have roughly 2 x the stats of the originals. Paperdoll full of these is surely game breaking. Hopefuly things get more balanced further in. The readme underlines that items have been " changed but not improved" This just isn't true. Irritating.

DA gore adjustment
Small but important little mod. Allows you to adjust amount of bloodstains on characters to less embarassing levels.

Corpses_stay
Killed enemies won't decay. Love it.

Dragon Age Redesigned
Very similar to improved atmosphere, focus on tweaking graphics of NPCs, party members. Looks great.

Tombs of the Undead

Three dungeons of varying difficulty, the first can be done after Lothering but the second and third are best left until level 16+.

Several new and interesting armour sets (my avatar rogue is wearing shadow scale armour from the second dungeon though you cannot see the stats on site, just the look)  that are strong but not overpowered as well as jewelry and weapons to be found in these dungeons. Many boss fights, some which will require tactics as adds will spawn at certain % of a big bosses life. A couple of fights are extremely hard but changing tactics, party members or just comming back at a higher level will solve these.

A very well done and fun dungeon romp that seems more or less bug free and is worth trying at least once. :)

My only two Must Have mods are Skip The Fade (god, I hate that level) and Quinn's Fixpack (an essential for gamers like me who want to play as bug-free as possible, but prefer bugfixes and custom content to remain completely separate). I have heard rumblings that the Fixpack conflicts with 1.04 in some areas, though.

I need some help here & this is going to sound really n00b-ish, but I'd appreciate it if someone could help me figure this out.  I followed some of the links in this thread, & I saved some files, for example, the Extra Dog Slot mod, in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age\\MODs\\ (a subfolder I created in order to save these MOD files - this is my first attempt to install any MODs).

But then, when I go to Explorer, & look in that directory, there's nothing there.  It's really annoying.  For example, in inclemency's post, I click on the link for Extra Dog Slot, then I select Save File, go to the above directory, & hit Save File.  But then I navigate to that directory & there are no files.  If I repeat the above steps, it looks like the file is already saved there & it asks me if I'd like to replace the file.  But Explorer shows the directory as empty after each try. So I can't click on the file & install it.

I'm using Windows 7, so I'm guessing it's some sort of permissions setting.  I've right-clicked on Properties & checked everything I can see, granting all permissions to "myself" (I'm the "Admin" on this PC), but no matter what I try, I can't see the file I just downloaded, even though I know it's there.  Can anyone help me out with this?  How can I see the file I just downloaded & then install it?

Also, while I'm at it, does this forum not have a "Preview Post" function?  Or am I just missing something obvious?

Skip the Fade - You should not install this until playthrough number two, though.

... why would I install that one, ever ?

Fade is the most fun part of the game.

The only part where you are actually in risk of dying even if playing correctly.

This will help if you like o try shape changing spells from Morrigan or your PC. It gives it a boost to make them more sturdy. Bit nothing to over powering, there are some mods out there that are but I dont bother with them as it removes the fun from the game.

Skip Ostagar. I hated having to slog through that place every single time I made a new character. But it does allow you to play it as normal if it turns out you would prefer to do so. It's still in beta, but very well done.

Within the fade, you can actually regen health through shape changing, so yeah. Really hard to die in the fade.

Universal dye kit, learn how to edit your own chargen morph, any cosmetic facial mod you can find and the inventory space mod.

I tend to not recommend combat tweaks and DA redesigned, because they change a lot of things, and it's all or nothing. Want a more balanced bow? Haste's drain on mana is increased. Stuff like that is really unappealing to me.

I really like the black templar armor that Krayzie created. The stats are good, but not game breaking. Great armor if you use a warrior. Most other mods I like have already been mentioned.

Here's my favourite armour mod. It's the "uniform" of the wardens in DA2, made available for use in DA:O! :)
