If I could guarantee the price bump and could get bioware to sell them I'd have bought all 100 of the 3 packs today.

That kind of comment won't go down particularly well around here methinks..

Sorry if people don't like facts but it's true.  A bump from $40 to $120 in 1 years time?  $12,000 investment with $36,000 return after 1 year?  I'd be stupid not to do it.  But I -can't- guarantee the bump, -couldn't- buy them if I wanted, so -didn't-.

So think it if you like, but why post it here? Especially when there are a number of collectors in this very topic that missed out earlier today and are feeling more than a little pissed off at what they assume (in part) are resellers buying up a lot of the stock.

Just makes more sense to keep comments like that to yourself, especially when emotions and disappointment levels are high.

EDIT - To add to this, another thing you are doing is drawing attention to the fact that these lithographs will be worth more in the future.  Anyone who collects them knows this already.  There is another sale tonight and comments like yours might well prompt people who were on the fence to just buy 3 sets and hang on to them.  Bang, there's another 2 sets which are unavailable to the regulars.

I couldn't have said it better.  Been getting these lithos off and on since the Spring time (didn't keep up with the releases or I would have more), but these 3 I was really looking forward to getting in on.  Was here right when they went live, but couldn't get the order to go through after 9 attempts and then it was sold out.

Others have posted about support quickly canceling duplicate orders if you request. That being posted along with price speculation on your part....

1) If someone where really planning on selling on ebay, why would they ask about the going rate in a place known to dislike ebay sellers?

2) Had my order gone through twice I would have debated heavily before choosing to cancel one of them or not, after all they will be worth more in the future.  I could hold on to a set for a month, 2, 12 and sell later.  That there is called investing.  If in a year one of these is worth $120 that's 200% interest rate.  Try finding that in most stocks.  If I could guarantee the price bump and could get bioware to sell them I'd have bought all 100 of the 3 packs today.

1) I don't think I've seen Rage on the litho threads before, so maybe he didn't know about the communal dislike for ebay flippers.

2) We understand the principles of investing. But we identify more with the fans and collectors who just want prints for personal enjoyment and would rather not see them gouged by resellers who never had any interest in actually keeping the prints they bought.

I'm just pointing out that It's a perfectly logical thing to do and I would be surprised if anyone here -wouldn't- at least think about it if their order doubled.  I may not want my Thane and Grunt print, but I know people who would that I can hand them off too if I decide I don't want to keep them for myself.

I'm not a collector, I'm after the print for it's artistic value to me personally, couldn't care less about the dolar value.  There isn't enough volume to be worth thinking about monetarily in anything but hypotheticals.  100 sets?  sure, but 1?  Not worth the time.  I'd still go "Hey I got more than I was expecting" and consider holding it for it's dolar value if my order doubled though, who honestly wouldn't?

Here we go again. I'm not going to get entangled in this, but of course the lithos will (as anything collectible will) increase in price with some time. I have nearly every lithograph made, but I'll never sell any of them. I may trade them with some money for more sought after ones, but I get more pleasure from looking at them than from the money I would have if I sold them. Gold seems to be always going up in price. Why not just buy $12,000 of that and sell it later? These are collectors items, and they shouldn't be treated as a commodity to make some quick cash with.

Tran, there is a 3 litho limit on these. Treehouse will alter your order if you order more than 3. Furthermore, the limit was put into place because of ebay resellers because apparently, Bioware and Treehouse are capable of sympathizing with the fans of the series rather than succombing to pure capitalism instead. Please refrain from making the situation even worse than it already is with your comments.

I for one am thankful that there are businesses out there that do care about their actual customers who care about the products.

Buying 3 sets would cost almost $400, even though I am sure you could make a profit on these, that's a lot of money to throw out there. I think the move is well designed to weed out the less-motivated resellers, anyone will throw out $150 to buy a bunch of a single litho that they can flip ASAP (like with the Normandy), but I think these will take a while for the value to explode, and anyone who bought Prag/Purg/Wards/Korlus to make a quick buck is probably pretty disenfranchised right about now.

I think the effect of that is already seen, you only see two sets of purgatory/pragia on ebay right now, and the sellers aren't even getting any bids lying about the status. I think it was Wards/Korlus, specifically Korlus that helped decrease the scalping. However, these will be in much higher demand than those 4 I think.

I am well aware of the 3 per customer limit and honestly expected it to be 1 per customer.

I don't see how merely pointing out truth and logic makes things worse but whatever.  I'll see you guys if I they release a Legion lithograph or I decide I want something you guys are selling.

Just to all those upset at me for what I've said, do me one favor.  Ask yourself this: If you accidentally double ordered and ended up with 2 sets instead of 1, would you really cancel the second one without even thinking about the fact that you could make a little profit from it?  No need to bother answering me because I'll only believe two answers: "No I wouldn't cancel it without thinking about that." and "Yes I would cancel it because I can't afford the extra money."

I actually know someone who gave away a Citadel instead of selling it.  I know this person could have made quite a profit.  There are people out there who believe that it is better to give than to recieve.  Perhaps you are not one of them, but please do not group the rest of us with you.

And I will probably give away my Thane and Grunt or sell at cost.  But the thought will cross my mind, and I guarantee the thought crossed their mind too.

One does not have to submit to their urge to benefit themselves at the detriment of others to recognize that it exists and there are other kinds of profit than money, but that is philosophy and off topic.

I'm actually debating trying to buy multiple sets so I can re-sell them...AT PRICE (plus tax+shipping charges) for those I deem worthy. Might be a bit megalomaniacal...but I'd rather these get into the hands of those that I FEEL deserve them...as opposed to those that come on here and say "I got an extra, if you really want one, you can buy it on ebay for a big increase."

Looks like Dr. Tran is the new me on these boards. Don't ever even insinuate having any thoughts that anyone could find the least bit shady. You must be a perfect human being, full of selflessness and every fiber of your being wishes well for your fellow man, even if it is at your own expense......at least if you want to avoid being ripped on every time you post.

@Dukes: I'm tempted to do the same honestly.

@Slim: Heh, yeah I get ripped on most everywhere I go for daring to recognize my base instincts. I don't follow them often, but I recognize their existence.

Okay this is getting a bit silly. This is a forum for fans of Bioware's works. Buying multiple copies of a lithograph to resell may be good business sense, but it isn't good in a social sense. We're all fans here and it is unfair to keep products made for fans out of their hands just because you want to make a quick buck. That said, it is equally unfair for someone to buy a bunch to give out to who they see fit, even if it is at cost. You're preventing the people who honestly wanted the lithographs for their own collection from receiving it in favor of choosing who you think should receive it. Just because someone doesn't have 3-5 of the previous lithographs doesn't mean they should have any less of a chance to purchase one.
