It doesn't seem like it is possible on the Mage origin though. I let Jowan save Conner to redeem himself and tried all the dialogue options afterwards but still could only have him sent to the Circle.
Maybe a Human noble?

I had no option of sending to mages.
My setup was,
I was asked to choose beteween the blood ritual, asking the circle of mages for help, or killing the kid.
I chose visitng the circle of mages, which evidentaly lead to me cleansing the tower of all its mages for the glory of the Templars, so that they'd be free to fight for me >.>
When i returned, i killed the kid, (actually i made his mother do it >.>) and then was asked what should be done with him. being "Execute, wait for eamon to awake, release"
As a human noble this was.

Ehm. If you encounter him in the jail he's in, you'll encounter him again in the Redcliffe storyline.
i let him go free fromt he jail, so when it came to connor it was either kill him or the circle of magi, THIS is why i have an extra quest

And now, on topic: Sorry, but I am clueless. I too sent him back to the circle.

By the way, has anyone actually ever... you know, betrayed him? I wonder what happens if you rat him out to the first enchanter right away...
It is virtually the same. The only thing that happens if that the First Enchanter is not disappointed, and Jowan hates you and does not consider you a friend anymore. That is at least the ending of the origin if you do it the other way (I tried both, prefer the one where you help him).
Don't think it will have an impact on further dialogues. But perhaps.

yeah, i released him before i went to connor, i told Jowan "i never want to see or hear of you again"
That explains. I released him but said something different, kinder.

I told him to help me to atone, and suggested that he be let loose afterward... but they didn't like that so much. Pity, I was really working Bann Teagan with the flirts.
Yes. Exactly. And I too almost had him succumb for my manly flirts!
