I've found evi takes down most targets in two shots on insanity - unless your against an elite like a krogan. After the two shots an evolved charge is usually off CD and you can either finish the enemy with a melee (if they aren't already dead) or if its an elite you find another enemy and charge/escape, or simply charge them again - stagger - finish them off.

VG charge > krogan charge =D

ME1 shotguns had some very nice sounds. I have the feelings that my ME2 shotguns use a silencer.

If you need to be at point blank range to do anything with a shotgun, why couldn't bioware just replace it with a melee weapon, id have had more fun.

Play Vanguard and you'll understand.

I am not eager to copy vanguard gameplay with other classes.Thats how it ends usually, except that the vanguard has a speed and range advance that other classes nether get.

Christ, how obvious do you want to make your trolling? If someone was really as idiotic as you're pretending to be then they surely would have swallowed their tongue and died long before they learned to use a keyboard...

I thought it was obvious enough when he blamed the sniper rifles, too...

In ME1, with a high enough Shotgun level, you could potentially SNIPE with a SHOTGUN.

In ME2, not so much.

I think you just need to get used to using the shotguns in a different way.

And if you want your shotguns to have range, use the Eviscerator or GPS.  I can understand the "does it make sense" perspective.  I mean, in the future you think their guns would be at least as accurate as the guns we have now.  I don't know much about firearms, though, so I'll let the experts comment on that.  That said, this is a game.  The shotguns are the way they are to set them apart from other weapons, giving the player a greater variety of viable options for gameplay.

Shotguns were never meant to "snipe" around. If you want to do that, switch to a sniper rifle.

Look at my main char (Vanguard). He has sniper rifles for long distance enemies, SMG and heavy pistols for mid-range, and shotguns for close range. It's all about finding your class' balance.

Exactly. The original poster seems to have run away already but if he was still paying attention I'd have told him he was simply doing it wrong. "Oh just because I don't play the game like you doesn't mean you can insult me! I just have a different playing style". That makes as much sense as "Hey guy you're shooting the ground, you're supposed to shoot the zombies." "This is my style, I don't have to shoot like you"

From what he said it just sounded like he wasn't actually aiming at the enemies, you actually have to line your targets up in your reticule for the most part and then pull the trigger. They're extremely far from useless and honestly if someone thinks they are they're simply doing it wrong.

shotguns are useless on insanity in my experience, you'll always do better with the mattock, just ignore shotguns and ignore the buillies who think the weapons in this game are well balanced

Wow, it's been in the grave for 3 years and your resurrect it.  Also your  basic assumption is wrong.  You should watch some of the insanity vanguard runs on youtube if you think shotgun is useless.

Seriously? Even as a soldier with the Mattock I found shot guns to be useful at times. Charge up the GPS, hit AR, and run in close and blast a Krogan in the face with incendiary ammo. Boom! Dead Krogan. Also good for Kilxen with cryo ammo. I can't do Vanguard, not my style, but I do like to AR with a shotgun now and again.

Hmmmm.

Mattock is an odd comparison since it is overpowered on Soldier, good on Vanguard, and then pretty average on everyone else.

But the fact of the matter is that Shotgun training is a great choice on any of the 2 gun classes and even on Infiltrator. With Shield Piercing you have good shield stripping, and overall you end up with good punch at close range.

All of the weapons (except a couple DLC guns) were very well balanced relative to each other in ME2, IMO. You of course don't have to use shotguns whatsoever if you don't want (although Soldier doesn't have great anti-shield options otherwise).

I never got any DLC weapons, but I dislike the 3 vanilla shotguns. Not my style at all, BioWare made the range so ridiculously short on them and I'm just not any good at such close range. I did us the scimitar some on CQB Sentinel and Infiltrator builds, but I can't say I particularly enjoyed it.

I'll never say they're useless or no good though. I've seen to much video evidence to the contrary. It's just not the weapon for me.

Between Squad Disruptor Ammo, Miranda and Garrus I never really felt like my Soldiers struggled with shields without using a shotgun. Too bad they didn't have SMGs though, I would have loved to use the Tempest under Adrenaline Rush.

I find the GPS fantastic for destroying the shields even on bosses. My vanguard has no need for Disruptor Ammo or any anti-shield ability since the GPS obliterates shields quickly. However, without a damage boosting ability like the Adrenaline Rush, as a Vanguard I have to stand back and strip the differences off Bosses and Sub-bosses before charging them. This is the only time I have to stand back and snip enemies, normal mooks die to a shotgun blast and some melee. Then its duck into cover, reload, scan battlefield for good flanks, and charge again. If no flanks are possible then Shockwave to pop enemies out of cover and blast them with the GPS. Hilariously effect.

Shotguns are weak to armor since they get no bonus vs armor. Thats probably why some people find them weak vs armored opponents. Just max out Incenary Ammo. Its the only ammo you need as a Vanguard.
