Not to forget that jumping with sticks/swords/bows/other in hand can prove a bit of a bad idea
Even if the function was there, I think I'd not really use it by RP means. Running is already borderline, my mummy always told me not to running holding pointy objects...

As a rouge, especially. Rogues should be agile. It's not just about jumping either. Climbing, tumbling and swimming are missing as well. All you can do is jog around. Can you sprint or is it a special skill to unlock this?
To be honest, these type of things I'd almost class as standard in a game world that is like this. Think GTA, Oblivion, WoW, etc. These games have been around awhile, and have these elements within it. Why is it missing on this brand spanking new game?

I think every game I played where I got stuck somewhere without a means to get out it was because of jumping

So so true!
I do get caught out by the lack of 'jump' but jumping through the environment was so so much an Elder Scrolls nightmare!

A thing I also miss is side stepping and walking backwards. In fact you are always moving forward, the camera position changes.

You can sidestep. It's called "q" and "e".ervanol wrote...
You cannot jump, you cannot swim, you cannot climb, you also cannot fall. There is no game world where you can freely move arround in. It feels more like decor where you play a story.

lvl 100 acrobatics in oblivion ftw?
Fresh off 200+ hours in Fallout 3 and 300+ hours in Oblivion, I still occasionally hit space even after 200+ hours in DAO....

Totally agree. In WoW it was a habit to jump around because most of the time we were just waiting for others. Haven't tried to jump in DA:O yet, not even once.Biefstukfriet wrote...
You are not waiting for the rest of your guild/party/PUG to gather. So there is no need to jump around like a bunny out of boredom.

But when I play Dragon Age I don't even think about jumping, not even to hit the jump button.

I also play Age of Conan where sprint jumping is the best way to kite and conserve EDIT: stamina...and yes, on an FFA PvP server, I'll do whatever it is to escape the three dudes who waited for me to talk to a quest giver before jumping me, lol.
I also sometimes hold down Shift to sprint >.>;

There's seriosuly nothing worse than bunny hoppers in MMORPGs. Nothing worse than having someone bouncing around like a rabbit in heavy armor to completely break the immersion. Can only thank the developers of any game that does not allow jumping.
Really...how much immersion is there in an MMO though?
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy them a lot...but even on an RP server there's tons of people who break immersion in more dire ways than jumping, imo.
For immersion I play games like this.

Yes, I agree, RPG are slowly turning into FPS or Hack&Slash where the player reflexes matters more than the character reflexes.
This is even more accentued concerning MMO. But I guess is what pleases most the mass (aka the potential buyers), so sadly I don't see this current trend to be reversed.
Old Computer-RPG school is dying

See, I like this, if I'm playing with other real people. I guess I'm pretty competitive. The nice part about RPGs (that are not also MMOs) is that I can wear armor for looks or whatever, and if it gimps me a little, so what, I'm the only one I'm hurting by that.
I actually almost quit Age of Conan when they made gear matter. Since I didn't really raid or have the time to spend to acquire really good gear, it a pleasure to be able to have gear make little difference except for aesthetics, ESPECIALLY on an FFA server where I never knew if I was going to be PvPing or not...I might just intend to cross the zone to go heal for my group, but other people might not want to let that happen.
Anyhow. I wish gear didn't really matter except for aesthetics in any game, including single player RPGs. I don't need better stats on my armor to have a sense of accomplishment.
