@Sarielle:

Don't get me wrong, I like competitive gameplay but for that I play FPS games or alike, which also have the advantage over MMO to have everyone starting the battle in the same conditions (if not the computer spec and lag, but games can't do anything about that), so only the player reflexes matters in that case.

I have nothing against the Twitch-MMO-Half-RPG concept, after all it's all about tastes.

What I'm however sad about is that these kind of games due to their popularity are slowly replacing the standard RPG MMO, who are not developped anymore.

I AM said that conversation skills never play a part in MMOs. It's my favorite part of RPGs :D I didn't take them on my mage on purpose (my bard always maxes them) and it's an eye opener how much different the game plays.

I think every game I played where I got stuck somewhere without a means to get out it was because of jumping :)

In this game I got stuck and couldnt get out because of lack of jumping :)
Ran into a pool of water in the deep roads (Ortan Taig I think).
Character dropped into the water and of course couldnt get back out.
Luckily on of the others' had their AI slow to respond in following, so I could get that one to walk around and teleport the rest of the party to him.

Yeah unfortunatly.
I understand in any MMO, that once you've beaten all the PVE contents, it's mostly either about raids, guild wars or pvp, or chit-chatting . But I wish the PvE and NPC interaction was not sacrified in the process...

I'm looking forward to try Star Wars: The Old Republic. I'm not waiting any miracle from it. I just hope that the story driven and NPC interaction part is developped enough.

Yes to the OP; except for The Witcher this is the only game I play a lot of recently that doesn't let me jump. Yeah yeah, I know it's a party based game, but it's also a 3D game where I usually control just one character at a time, so I think it's silly not to allow me to jump during those instances.

Edit: nevermind that jumping would allow easier traversal of certain landscapes which are currently hardboiled with specific paths ala NWN2.

Agreed. I enjoy PvP a ton (raiding....eeeeeeah...not so much, it bores me) but even I would like to have more chat options w/ NPCs.

I think jumping comes from the old DOOM and Quake online gamees...they call it bunnyhopping and circle strafing. I used to play RTCW alot and we jump and close the distance at a sharp angle all the time while trying to get head shots on the enemy. Ever since then, I've equated jumping with surviving longer in games. This might explains the rabid bunnyhopping you see...

I've tried to jump a couple times (just running around trying to get somewhere...I usually only jump in MMOs when I need to to get somewhere, or in WoW when I was trying to see how many times in a row I could get my night elf to flip) but more often, when I was taking a brief break between playthroughs 3 and 4 of DA, I kept trying to pause the MMO I was playing.

It's hard to kill elite monsters when you keep jumping in front of them while trying to pause. :innocent:

I'm one of these people.  I jump at like 300 times per minute.  I sort of like not being able to jump though, because it's like crack for me.  Once I taste it I can't stop.

Never really had this problem. I did play WoW and did alot of jumping with my bloodelf and night elves. But i was playing BG, NWN and IWD back then so I'm familiar with it. What I'm afraid of is pausing when for some reason i get back to WoW or other MMO's. Because im already doing it with some of the games i have here lol

Jumping would be ridiculous in this game (and is incredibly unrealistic in wow).  The games that allow jumping really break the realism because people just hop all over trying to avoid getting hit or shot or avoid their enemies.  Jumping belongs in games where you play a rabbit.

The biggest problem with jumping would be companion pathing. They would constantly be getting stuck, or lagging behind due to you jumping everything and them walking around it.

I did this at first, but now it's the other way round. I was playing Half Life 2 a few days ago and kept on jumping when I wanted to pause to tell Gordan what to do :D

Yes, but from Divinity 2, not from WOW. I occasionally try to jump off cliffs, too. ;)
