Well, the face has the same proportions in both these screenshots. To be perfectly honest, i'm not sure if the "he's not too bad" thing isn't result of people convincing themselves/tuning out the aspects which are out of whack because they're determined to like the character, and militant defense Varric enjoys in his thread.
Well, they were firmly saying that Varric reminded them of some pictures they'd post that were frankly just... ugh. A few of them changed their mind, I doubt they would've done otherwise because they had been that way for weeks / months.
Isabela's chin still quite noticable jutts out in every screen shot so far. Its not this end of the world thing but trying to convince people its not noticable is somewhat reaching imo.

Every single* dalish elf and casteless dwarf has facial tattoo so i wouldn't read too much into it. They'd have to retcon large parts of their lore if that was changed.Elrena wrote...
Also, I'm taking that early Dev comment about keeping key facial features-including tattoo's-the same as a sign that Zev is coming back, because let's face it, not that many important characters had tattoo's
*) ok, with few exceptions but well, these are few.
Given what we've seen thus far they seem to have no issues with retconning things left and right.

This specifically excludes visual rectons.

Why are you excluding the one aspect where there's been a ton of retcons and the part I was actually refering to? Oh wait I know to try and prove a point or something.

Well, the Love Interest (aside from Morrigan) not being in Awakening directly contradicts the epilogue card if you choose at the end of Origins to rebuild the Gray Wardens. Since they didn't have the budget to bring the LIs back, though, I don't think they had much of a choice.

Actually I was. That visual retcons really ought not to be lumped in with narrative retcons. The former can be justified under artistic license, whether we agree with them or not. The latter is lazy writing.

Eh a retcon is a retcon imo, but I do understand where you're coming from Man who's Pants are Angry.

Yes, agreed, the faces are not attractive at all, with the features pinched up at the center of the face and the huge chins. I liked it in femHawke, but the more I see it and realize it's a general "feature," the more it bothers me.ejoslin wrote...

Frankly, that is one damn ugly dwarf. I don't know if his chin is too big or not - too many angles there . . but he's damn ugly.
His chin/jaw is completely out of proportion with the rest of his face in all of the pictures. I think people just got used to it.
And it makes me worry even more about seeing the elves. I'm steeling myself for some goofy-looking Dalish.

Na'vi
The "Hot Rod Samurai" Dalish elves will look like the Na'vi- with massive chins/jaws. I'm calling it.

The idea of changing the model or "identity" of Isabela from DA:O to DA2 is fine and justified. But I just do not like the current model, especially as it pertains to her face. The quick look of the mage that accompanies Hawke was very striking, as well as the girl who is talking to the dwarf in the last trailer. I cannot put my finger on it, but the model doesn't look right to me. Will it ruin my gameplay experience? Absolutely not!
I reserved my copy of DA2 (for both PS3 and PC) after seeing the new trailer, so the new model was obviously not a deal breaker.
... of some note too: INfamous was a great game for PS3 and they are producing a sequel. When they first showed off INfamous 2, the main character Cole had a dramatic change to his look (different clothing style, more hair .. almost Nathan Drake like), and the community really complained loudly about the change. To the makers credit, they did overhaul the character design, and now the design is more inline with the original Cole for the first game.

Sadly you're most likely correct Brock. I'm not quite sure why they let the same person apparently design every companion in the game though with the huge jawline fetish they seem to have.

I notice a lot of people seem to make their female Wardens with the narrowest, pointiest jawline possible, so it may be that the people who post here have a very narrow definition of what a beautiful woman should look like. But I think Isabela is lovely and I am glad to see different face shapes beyond Slightly More Oval or Slightly More Heart-Shaped being proudly represented.

The model used to produce the wallpaper is from the cgi trailer, and has considerably different proportions from Isabela in game. I'll fully agree that wallpaper Isabela has proportions of a regular human being.pizoxuat wrote...
Isabela has a very classic look. Comparing the proportion of her jaw here to Penelope Cruz you'll see it's not actually that large. She has a longer nose and a smaller mouth, but the jaw itself isn't overly large at all.

Morrigan: 1st art = bad, second = good
Leliana: blur render = awesome, actual = not bad
Isabela: concept = decent, actual = bad
Casandra: concept = bad, actual = acceptable
Bethany = yum
