So, lets say I have 4 companions to my character - and as I've seen, you can only take 2 with you on your journey, right? So, you take Alistar and Morrigan with you, for example, and they get XP along with you. But later on, you want to bring one of the other companions along for wahtever reason - do all characters level up based on the main characters level, like in Mass Effect and Neverwinter? Or will we end up with level 1 companions whilst hte others all are at level 20 and eat danger?

I have another question about Dragon Age's game mechanics

Yes to the former, no to the latter. NPCs stay leveled relative to your PC.

You can take three NPCs with you at a time.
I'm not aware of any information one way or the other on whether companions back at the camp will gain levels as you do.
EDIT: I guess that answers that, then.

Yea..like they said 3 companions, but i wouldn't say they level with you so much as gain experience with you. and it might be at a reduced amount, not exactly sure

One of the designers explicitly said they decided not to make the stay-at-home characters be gimped. It seemed pretty clear that they would keep up with you.

No, they stay at your level, I don't even think they have their own experience counter.
