The first Assassin's Creed as, despite being utterly magical at times, it fell well short of the hype. I recently picked up GTAIV for the first time... and felt that it was utterly mediocre. Played it on my Pavilion DV5, so that's four hours of tweaks just getting the game playable, compounded by another eight squeezing extra frames out. After enjoying it thoroughly for the first four hours, I came to the sad realisation that there's nothing to do. Really. Rockstar create the most detailed game-world in existence short of Mafia II, and they don't use it? Neither did Mafia, by the way; hated that too. I'm not getting why open-world games shout about being "sandboxes" or having "living, breathing environments", and then do ****-all with them. Anybody who's played RDR and is thinking of GTAIV, stop right now. There's a colossal difference in quality, from the shooting mechanics to the side-quests. Although I did like Niko every bit as much as John Marston.

Fable 3 might have made this list, but after a disappointing start it's become one of the most enjoyable games I've played for years. Really. I've actually become attached to the characters, which is more than I can say for the other Fable games, and the game-world itself is beautiful beyond belief. Say what you like about the engine; Lionhead's artists know what they're doing. The secrets (gnomes, chests) are a joy to search for; the gnomes' insults keep you happy and the chests and keys are never mind-numblingly difficult or frustrating to find. Say what you like about the combat, the difficulty and the (admittedly rather pathetic) changes to the expression system; Fable 3 had a certain magic about it that makes it worth playing over and over again.

I bought Fable 3 yesterday, and completed it earlier today. It was short. I prefer to scroll down lists. Should like it, but can't truly like it. Don't really feel guilty for that though.

Mercenaries 2 and Assassins Creed. They seemed like something I would so enjoy playing but I've had a problem, I just can't get into the story. Finished them just to finish them but, wasn't fun. Sad really.

Darkness, i really want to like this game but everytime i play it i end up having a headache. The voice acting is terrific and the story looks great but.. i dont know... i just cant get into the gameplay.

I consider myself to be a pretty good gamer and i try to keep an open mind when picking up a game, but there's limitations even for me and one of them is Demon's Souls. I know it's a great game and alot of people love it but man im afraid to even give it a chance. Because i think i'll just end up in a situation where im going to have to buy a new controller to replace my old smashed up one.

Icewind Dale I finished the game but it was a hard slog helped by awesome music and great locations, repetitive combat is what I endure in games to get to the story and not a feature to be built upon and lauded. I know they were trying to make it like tabletop but in pnp you've got all your mates and you're having a laugh, its a different medium and we shouldn't be looking back.

Psychonauts never got any hype.

Yeah it did. When it come about a ton of people thought it was simpley amazing. I still know people today who think it's the best game ever made. Again, I don't know why.

Everytime I try and play IWD 1 or 2 I just end up spending like 5 hours making a party then never playing the game.

Fallout New Vegas. It drones on and on...and I'm frustrated by the bugs and people spewing out quests like they're giving out candy on Halloween.

I'd also add Final Fantasy XIII...not that I really feel guilty about not liking it so much as knowing that I invested 30+ hours in a game I'll probably never actually finish.

The Witcher and Dragon Age, I like DA but I don't love it like I thought I would. But I had high expectations, believing that it would be  BG 3. After a couple play throughs, the game may grow on me like NWN 2 did.

No remorse, but I do get angry when a game I really want to like fails me. :)

Starcraft. I just can't get into those strategy based games, and it makes me feel like I'm missing out as a gamer.

I agree, I do like some strategy games but not a big fan of most resource gathering RTS style strategy games like Command and Conquer and Starcraft.
Can't say I feel bad about it though as I can't stand Blizztards.

Hrmm, Overlord for one. It was fun in little bits but not really engaging in the long run for me. Fable is another game I want to like but its just too short for me to enjoy. Also Oblivion was a game i wanted to like but unless its heavily modded the game falls flat for me.

Baldur's Gate. And Icewind Dale. Couldn't get used to the party mechanics and tough combat. Plus, open exploration-type games also make me lose interest fairly quickly; I need set goals and destinations rather than wandering out in the wilderness. And the dated graphics were a huge issue, since I played this post-NWN. Never felt an urge to return since.

On the contrary, the NWN campaigns - often derided and decried as lesser successors to BG - have provided me with some of my fondest gaming memories. The party and combat system might seem stripped down, true, but the simplicity and accessibility of it all made gamng a breeze. Just a playstyle preference at heart. :)

Starcraft II is supposed to be quite godly, or so I'm lead to believe. And this from a guy who never played Starcraft because "he was too burned out of the RTS genre after Warcraft II".

I've seriously been contemplating giving Starcraft II a fair shot.

And I really can't think of anything else about the Witcher. Lovely story, and gorgeous, but if that ain't your cup of tea, then that ain't your cup of tea.

Exactly what I was going to say. I just attempted it again a week ago and couldn't get more than an hour in without wanting to headdesk.

Assassin's creed, although I feel more hate than guilt. It looks and feels great, I don't even particularly mind having to sneak everywhere. What did get up my nose was the horrendous PC controls. Perhaps it's OK on a console, but frankly who cares. Then I posted on their forum to see if I could mod the aggro off so my daughter could use it as a horseriding game, got flamed, and left.

Thief 2 kept crashing on me when I tried to open doors, which is a deal breaker ... hmm google suggests I set the affinity to a single core, D'oh.

The Deus Ex expansion seemed so cruddy in comparison to the original, but it's slowly growing on me. Pity about the extremely limited inventory, a bag of holding would be nice about now.

Mass effect 1 is riding a thin line here, I'm pretty hooked, and the Mako is a blast, but the non-interruptible conversations get up my nose. Still, I'm about to unlock Hardcore ... OK I've got it bad :D

Probably Fable 2 (I never bothered with 1).

It's something I'll start playing then ask myself why I'm playing it. I just can't enjoy it. It's something I normally would like, but for whatever reason, I just don't care for it.

It's the dog that makes me feel guilty. *I have gotten pretty far in it once. Basically for achievements ...*

Another game I feel guilty about not liking are the Metroid Prime games.

The reason I feel guilty about not liking them is because despite not liking them I know they're still good games. I just felt that I spent too much time in those games just wondering around doing nothing hoping to find a hint of what to do next.

A lot of people say I'm crazy but I LOVE Metroid:Other M and Metroid Fusion and think they're the best games in the series. One of the reasons I think those two are the best is because there isn't as much back tracking and getting lost.

There is a rewarding sense of accomplishment in finally finding out what to do or where to go in such games like Metroid Prime Trilogy but the boredom that follows outweighs the satisfaction in my opinion.

Still, Metroid Prime games are good for those who don't mind the slow pace and backtracking.

Assasin's Creed 1 and 2 and Dawn of War 2. They're all decent games and all, I just can't get into them.

I'm going to have to give the Witcher another go in the near future here. I've played through the introduction like 10 times and never made it very far past it because I just didn't feel pulled in and/or felt really bored.

Assassin creed. I understand the value of the game but it seems like "All the jumping around" you could easily fall and slip on something and the lack of direction it guides you has lead just to end the game without playing through it all.

Yet I have tried to play the second one. The same situation. It gives you a quest doesn't exactly show you where to go.
