Why should anyone feel guilty about not liking particular games? We're humans, we have the ability of free will. If something doesn't appeal to us, we should just accept that we don't like said game and not give a **** about what others think of our preferences. I dislike a lot of games that are popular, but am I going to feel some sense of obligatory guilt simply because these games are popular? No, I'm going to continue being happy with my preferences.

Overall I just find this topic pointless, but whatever.

Let's say gamer X come across a game like Ultima IV: Quest of the Avatar, which sounds very promising on paper. Now,  X is not exactly a graphics fanatic, but when they see the screen shots, X just can't get past the graphics. They believe there is a well designed game beneath it(X did their research), but just simply cannot get past the graphics and feels kind of left out.

I think that's a valid viewpoint. Now, disliking a game that you simply just don't like from a game perspective, then yeah, you shouldn't feel 'guilty' about something like that.

Thats a fair explanation. I was under the
assumption, though, that this topic was based on feeling guilty on not
liking a game because others find it so good. I was basically advocating
not conforming. If thats not the case then fine.

Same explanation goes to you, Busomjack. Believe me, I take a great pride in being a gamer myself, so no need for the insult you clearly made towards me. I'm just not going to get worked up and full of angst because I don't like a game I should. This overall topic sounded like "OMG I DON'T LIKE THIS GAME SO PEOPLE WILL HATE ME, I FEEL SO BAD ABOUT MYSELF :crying:"

Like I said above, if this wasn't the root of the question about it, then I stand corrected, but overall it just sounded like a whine topic. I say take pride in the face that there are games you DO NOT LIKE, because afterall, we have free choice in that matter, right?

As far as this part of my previous post goes:

I was angry and frustrated about something unrelated and decided to take that out here. My apologies with the tone that came across this part of my post, and I shouldn't have taken out my frustrations on the boards like that.

My opinion still stands, however, that when I first saw this topic it felt like an unecessary whine topic about angst about not being accepted for disliking certain games. Again, my previous post says everything else. I'm willing to be corrected if clarified on the topic.

None. I don't feel any guilt over disliking Bioshock and Starcraft, for example.

RTS of that nature bore the ****** out of me. I like Total War and Paradox Interactive strategy.

Bioshock, The Witcher, and Fallout 3.

Theoretically I should like The Witcher because I love Dragon Age and a lot of people like to compare the two but I just can't into it.

Never finished Bioshock, the story is just nonsensical and I have never liked the 1940's America parody games like Bioshock and Fallout... too whimsical.

I can't help but escape the thought when playing Fallout 3 "This games alright but if Bioware had made it it would have been much better." Which mainly comes from how horrible and uninteresting the "companions" were, I just used them to carry all of my loot for me. I guess I have been spoiled by Bioware games and will forever compare other RPG's to BW games and more than likely be dissapointed.

I also hate Halo but I think COD is ok, I just hate it when people dedicate their lives to playing its multiplayer and overate it.

I don't know about feeling guilty but there are several games which I wish I liked better.

Fallout 1&2, I love everything about these games, yet I never really enjoy playing them. Every time I play I start out loving it then after about a hour I lose interest. Next time I start up I can't remember everything I was doing so I just mess around a bit find some other quests and lose interest about a week later.

Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater. I just never liked the controls, I liked everything you could do, I liked the gameplay, I liked the story, I just couldn't get used to the controls.

That's probably all I can think of now, there are more games I feel guilty about liking than I feel guilty about not liking

Gears of War - I got through half of the original game, but then I decided it was a waste of my time. It's not hard to hit your enemies, if they make Arnold in his golden days seem like a wimp. Add a bad story and grey/brown nuances all over, and you have a game, that is only held up by its awesome cover system.

Darksiders - One of my friends insisted on lending it to me, claiming it was one of the best games he had ever played and that it was on-level with GoW, turned out it wasn't. Felt like DMC 2, in Warcraft clothes, with a retarded story and cheap finishing moves.

Neverwinther Nights - I agree with the guy saying it feels like Runescape, plus it doesn't feel right, if half of the guards in the game have the same portrait as you.

tES: Oblivion - Extremely annoying levelling system, that gradually made you underpowered if you didn't level at the right time or if you didn't use the right skills thoughout the level. If that was not bad enough, you were bound to walk the same identical couple of dungeouns a hundred times over, with roughly the same enemies in them. Moreover, the voice acting was extremely tedious and homogenous.

Closing comment: Psychonauts was a complete marvel!

Didn't like gears of war either. But that name of yours is something to behold. My compliments, good sir.

tES II: Daggerfall, let alone Arena. I'm completely mad fan of both Morrowind and Oblivion, but Dagger... Hey, that's a creepy pink monster! No, it's civilian! Really it was a tree.
