Any mods to stop the Mana Clash/Paralysis Explosion crash to desktop?

I originally had the original Dragon age (no expansion or DLC), and I just bought ultimate edition which adds the 1.04 patch and awakening.  Now whenever I use mana clash and  paralysis explosion, or the templar skill with the same animation, I crash to desktop.

I looked through the archives and saw that this problem has existed since 1.03! and still has no fix aside from modding your .exe file.  The only problem is that I bought it off steam, so when I mod my .exe file the game no longer launches (thanks drm!)

I don't want to pirate a game I already own to fix this stupid issue, so I was wondering:

Are there any mods that either remove or change the animation so that it doesn't cause a crash to desktop or removes the enemy ability to use these spells?  This is literally the only problem I'm having with the game: crash to desktop whenever that stupid animation plays.

If there aren't any mods, can anyone tell me how to make one myself?  Thank you!

Have not found any mod regarding this issue.
http://www.dragonagenexus.com/

Read that you already tryed my favorite, 4GB patch.
You can try to disable all floating number for damage.
An other tip is to lower graphic and/or texture detail one notch.
Or force the game to run in dx9 mode.
I have a feeling that to many saved games can cause trouble.

A slider for level of spell animations would be nice, that´s for sure.

It seems pretty messed up that it's literally only one spell though and that it's been around for so long. It's actually making me leery of buying dragon age II, which is kinda sad.

I wondered if it was just my card at first, so I actually added like 20 or 30 enemies onto the screen to see if it crashed, but as long as I didn't use mana clash or paralysis explosion etc. the framerate didn't even drop. It's 100% the paralysis explosion animation. I'll try turning the details down though to see if that helps.
