What kind of weapon is Hawke using int he Destiny trailier?  It looks like a sword/staff combined and has there been any mention of if this weapon will be in the actual game?

Also why was the weapon changed for the "Rise to Power" trailer?

In Rise to Power there is footage of Hawke as both warrior and mage. If he's holding a staff, he's a mage. Two-handed sword, he's a warrior.

Can you confirm what weapon Hawke is holding in that particular scene?

That is a two-handed sword. It is, in fact, THE sword that has provoked so much lively debate about the weight and size ratios and speed of two handed combat.

Mage staves seamlessly move from melee strikes to ranged bolts based on the current target's distance from the caster.

The fact that it produced a "flame" effect upon striking impact...........is that an example of a rune-enchanted 2h sword?

Or, could it possibly mean that warrior Hawke has magical abilities, too?  Or that mages can wield 2h upon taking a certain spec?

Enchantment?
ENCHANTMENT!

If its ranged based on changing attack, what modifiers will the attack damage come from IE str. dex, magic.

Magic, same as if it's being used at range. The difference is visual for the most part....mostly. (every rule has its exceptions, after all)

By the way what is the cannon class for Hawke?Warrior or mage?

There is no canon.

Correct. The canonical Hawke is the one you pick.

There will be a variety of staves, yes.
