What kind of weapon is Hawke using int he Destiny trailier?  It looks like a sword/staff combined and has there been any mention of if this weapon will be in the actual game?

Also why was the weapon changed for the "Rise to Power" trailer?

It's a mage sword-staff. Destiny hawke was a mage.

The new trailer he is a different class I guess?

I think maybe the Staff of Parthenon is a sword staff

In Rise to Power there is footage of Hawke as both warrior and mage. If he's holding a staff, he's a mage. Two-handed sword, he's a warrior.

I have one question tho, Mage Hawke (with the staff of Parlathan) wears heavy armor in both of the trailers. We can do that now? Or he is an arcane warrior?

Mike, there's something I've been trying to figure out in the Rise to Power trailer, as to whether or not Hawke is holding a staff-sword or 2h.

In one scene, Hawke is jumping towards a Quanari in Kirkwall.  When he slashes down, it creates a flame effect.  That suggests the weapon Hawke's holding in that scene is a mage's staff-sword.  But, the weapon looks more like a 2h sword?

Can you confirm what weapon Hawke is holding in that particular scene?

That is a two-handed sword. It is, in fact, THE sword that has provoked so much lively debate about the weight and size ratios and speed of two handed combat.

I'm wondering if the staff of parthalan's animations will be the same as other staffs. Will we able to slice and dice with it, or is it a long range weapon? Will it incorporate the 2 handed sword's animations in some way? If I attack an enemy with it, do I shoot a bolt at him or do I run up and start slashing?

Mage staves seamlessly move from melee strikes to ranged bolts based on the current target's distance from the caster.

and do the melee strikes for the staff of parthalan look the same as those for other staffs? I would have thought parthalan having a blade would require adjustments to stop hawke from accidentaly grabbing it's sharp end. I would also have thought the sound effects would need changing from a wooden thump to a metallic clang.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike.

The fact that it produced a "flame" effect upon striking impact...........is that an example of a rune-enchanted 2h sword?

Or, could it possibly mean that warrior Hawke has magical abilities, too?  Or that mages can wield 2h upon taking a certain spec?

You know the one thing that trailer made me wonder is if Battle Mage, and Arcane Warrior are going to be rolled into the same class since Specs are supposed to be more involved.

Or are Mages going to be more Battle Magey in general.

I am interested in this, too.

I'm hoping that a bladed staff, like the Staff of Parthalan, will behave differently than a regular blunt staff..........

I want to be able to slice and dice with the Staff of Parthalan, just like a sword............Posted Image

If its ranged based on changing attack, what modifiers will the attack damage come from IE str. dex, magic.

Magic, same as if it's being used at range. The difference is visual for the most part....mostly. (every rule has its exceptions, after all)

So hey, why does Thedas have wide-bladed swords? To flip pancakes? To dig ditches?

I asked Daveth and he said, "Just to annoy you." That can't be right, can it?

The polearm or "sword-staff" in destiny has been confirmed as one of the Mage weapons to be in DA2, most likely for battlemage/arcane warrior specs(Bethany does not use a swordstaff in the trailers, maybe because she's a different spec)

There is a different sword staff shown in rise to power, as well as a qunari type sword seen in DAO

The staff of parthalan can be supposedly had if you signed up for the newsletter before November

But by indication in the trailer, there will be different sword staffs in the game, as well as a host of new weapons

But if how can be a mage in half of the scenes while he is still wearing the same armor and not a robe? And what the heck is that awesome, warrior-like,templar-killing move just before he cast the fire spell at the end of the trailer?

By the way what is the cannon class for Hawke?Warrior or mage?

Correct. The canonical Hawke is the one you pick.

I think mages need some form of protection. I don't see what's stopping them from wearing armor, especially if their going into battle. Robes are just casual clothing for mages, right? Certainly not something that you'd carry into battle.

Tehnically, unless they are an arcane warrior, mages are really skinny, unmuscular type dudes. They are also ranged so it's weird to see a heavy armored mage. That's why i was asking how come trailer Hawke is a mage but wears heavy armour.

So, What class is Hawke in the Destiny`s Trailer? A Warrior or a Mage?. Also, Can I use that Sword/Staff as a Warrior? And as a Mage?. Because I just love how that weapon looks and I want to know which class do I need to be to use it haha.
