so, will there be other sword-staffs in the game besides the staff of parthalan? And will they have different animations/uses from other staves? And can mages wear armor? I want to play an arcane warrior and since mages can't use non-staff weapons these questions are very pertinent.
uhhh melee mages again.... I think you are hoping for too much. Your mage will be a mage that CAN melee attack but dont expect him to be that good at it. As far a different animations and sound effects go: yeah right, they will be the same. I'm sure they will handle like a staff. Cant answer the mages wearing armor question but it prob has to do with requirements and wieghing the defence to penalties.. but who knows, they haven;t told us much about equipment/inventory

It would make sense to only allow an arcane warrior specced
Mage use one, as lore says arcane mages used magic to augment their physical prowess

In Rise to Power there is footage of Hawke as both warrior and mage. If he's holding a staff, he's a mage. Two-handed sword, he's a warrior.
So the sword-staff we see in the trailers is actually an ingame weapon type that will be appearing in DA2 or is that just a weapon being shown in the trailers?
It looks dope as hell whatever its called.

And will there be other bladed staves like the staff of parthalan? And will they have distinct animations?Mike Laidlaw wrote...
There will be a variety of staves, yes.

I would have thought parthalan having a blade would require adjustments to stop hawke from accidentaly grabbing it's sharp end.
Off topic, but in The Witcher, Geralt has at least two execution moves where he grabs the sword by the blade and strikes the enemy with the pommel end.

Watching the RTP trailer again frame by frame it looks like one of the Sword-Staff weapons has a shorter handle and thus more resembles a sword. (Hence the confusion in this thread.) I wonder if There are sword-staffs with a variety of handle lengths.
In the Rise to Power trailer he is at one point using a Greatsword. There isn't any confusion regarding that, but there does seem to be different hafts for the sword/stave type weapons. Towards the end of the trailer the weapon he uses has a much shorter blade and more resembles the weapons from the Destiny trailer albeit minus the jewel attached to the haft.

Mage staves seamlessly move from melee strikes to ranged bolts based on the current target's distance from the caster.
If its ranged based on changing attack, what modifiers will the attack damage come from IE str. dex, magic.
Magic, same as if it's being used at range. The difference is visual for the most part....mostly. (every rule has its exceptions, after all)
Im sorry I was not clear on the quesstion, I thought if a mage was close to a target if would seitch to a two handed sword atack. I see that is not the case. Before as a mage if you attacked with a wepon you had a lot of misses due to low dex and str on your arcane warrior. I just wanted to know if this was fixed with a new modifier for the mage to increase hits on target if using a wepon.
