Hi,
I've played ME1 and ME2 and I absolutely love both games (I've even read the books). Unfortunately, my Xbox died and I decided to buy a new one. I wanted to replay ME2 and the add-on packs on the new Xbox which says a lot about the game's quality as I've never replayed a game.
I used a USB memory stick to copy save games from my old hard drive to the new hard drive. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to copy the ME2 games due to some restrictions. I tried starting a new ME2 game on the new console but when I tried to import my ME1 character, the game couldn't find the files although they exist on the hard drive of the new console.
I've been talking to EA tech support but that's akin to talking to a wall with the only difference being that no one would waste time talking to a real wall.
As far as I know, this is the only game that allows character continuation and Bioware went to great lengths to allow you to continue your character. However, they lock the files preventing anyone whose xbox has died from continuing the game - a decision that is totally nonsensical.
If ANY game SHOULD ALLOW players to copy save game files between consoles, it's the Mass Effect series! The fact that I cannot continue with my existing character when I do have the save game files is NOTHING SHORT OF A HUGE BUG !
The X360 is notorious for hardware failures (mine failed 3 times before I gave up).
Could someone from Bioware help us? It's bad enough that we had to pay for another console - you'd expect game companies to sympathize and help us continue our games, not prevent us as Bioware is doing.
Thank you
Help transferring Save Games from ME1 and ME2 to new console

You'll want to transfer licenses to your new XBox 360 first: transferring content licenses to a new console.
Using a USB memory stick for ME2 files appears to be tricky, and I haven't done it, so I can't explain how to do it. I only know that you can't COPY the files, you have to actually MOVE the files.
Or you can use an HD transfer cable.

Thank you for the reply. I'm a little unclear as to how moving files is different than copying files. Do you know if I have an option to move files to a MU. I can't use the HD transfer cable as I already have content.
I noticed another thread that dates to 9 months ago. Why hasn't this bug been addressed? Are the producers aware that many of us can't continue our games due to some idiotic short-sighted decision?
Could someone from Bioware post simple step-by-step instructions of how I can copy my ME1 and ME2 files to my new hard drive (without wiping the hard drive) that have been tried and tested. I'm not asking for much.
Thank you

For some reason, ME2 doesn't allow for copying of files. It won't work, as you've discovered. You have to move them completely.
As for having someone from BioWare respond with the step-by-step instructions, BioWare support is actually EA support. The only thing you'll get from these forums is fan support.
With an HD transfer cable, you can use your PC as an intermediary for transferring between HDs. Use a utility like XPort 360 to copy the files from the old HD to the PC, then use it to transfer it to the new HD.

Thank you very much. Any idea where I can a HD transfer cable that works with my X360 hard drive?
I've been talking to EA support for over a month and I've learned more in a day on these forums.
Why won't they just allow us to copy the files? Doesn't anyone from Bioware visit these forums? I love their games but I cannot believe that they won't let me continue games that I've purchased on a new console without undertaking a project to copy the file games. I shouldn't have to spend 2 hours trying to figure out how to copy the file and have to purchase separate hardware and download custom software.
What about ME1? How do I make that character available?
Could someone provide me with the contact info to the producer of the Mass Effect series? This really needs to be addressed by someone at Bioware - not by EA's tech support. I almost feel like a character in one of Kafka's novels.
If you read any of the other posts, you'll see that everyone finds that policy of not being able to back up or copy your files pointless and borderline insane.
What on earth can anyone do with those save files other than play the game they already purchased? maybe someone may share their character with another friend who can't get past a certain stage in the game?

I'm not sure it's entirely BioWare's decision that the files shouldn't be copied considering anyone can grab anyone else's save file to use for the PC version of Mass Effect 2. Obviously, they're cool with PC users doing it, so somewhere along the line that message didn't make it to the XBox 360 version.
As for where you can get an HD transfer cable, you can get them fairly cheap online just doing a search for "XBox 360 HD transfer cable."
