I've had a technique to solve the mount issue for awhile, but as it
wasn't a perfect solution, I put it on the sidelines. Finding that there
are few to no alternatives in NWN2 3+ year lifespan, I will let you try my solution and see what
you make of it.
If you have any suggestions on how to improve this or their own solutions I would appreciate it.

Though this is a great innovation, it is still only a first step to bringing this long-awaited feature to NWN2 so comments and suggestions are appreciated.

You should really talk to Hellfire_RWS and painofdungeoneternal about this. They've been working on something for a while, which they had started with Qkrch. I don't have too much information, but I know it's part of their larger animation project, which also involves swimming and levitating.

Here's a video demo of it.

That is not really the best way of doing it. How it can be done is using the cloak, wing, or tail animation slot, which have a separate set, and setting the figures animation to be offset by a given height. NWN1 used a tail, and the set tail function, and later had an official function made for it, NWN2 is going to need a cloak since we don't have it implemented as part of an adventure pack. This means you can't wear a cloak and ride a horse at the same time, but that is just how we have to do it so a given figure can "mount" and "unmount".

This is being worked on, i also have a way of making the cloak slot being used seem relatively transparent. We can run a custom script and animation on equipping and unequipping the horse item, and create a horse upon losing/unequipping the horse item as you unmount it.

Most of this is being done by hellfire, i mainly am figuring out how to integrate it with other parts of the game, scripting and the easier parts. But it should allow us to finally implement the knight class, and perhaps a few more features like flying carpets.

I'm glad you found your own solution and I look forward to seeing it when it is released. I do have one question. Do you two use 3ds max in your solution or preferably something else; without a price tag attached, as that was always the biggest problem when doing any external model and animation editing in NWN2 and for which I built my solution to avoid?

Can't wait to see your work on that matter.

Will it be just mount or will it feature mounted combat as well ?

Because of the 3DS Max pricing it keeps the animation developers to a very very small number.

We are using 3D Studio Max version 8 rev 3.  CAT (Character animation toolkit) Version 3, and the OEI export plugin (Exportron).

At first it will be just mounts. Making horseback combat will be a very big project.

Seeing projects like this are very encouraging. Although combat on horseback would be a terrific accomplishment I would simply be happy to piggy back on your fine work so that I can finish my "Hildago Horse Race" quest for my "Al-Qadim" adventure.
