Pausable Cutscenes?

Well, I'm playing Mass Effect 2 for the fifth time in a six-month span, and loving every minute of it. I can't say enough good things about this game, it's just incredible. And Mass Effect 1 was an amazing game as well, I can't say enough good things about that either.

However, I've always had a very small complaint that I've nurtured in both games, every playthrough. It's annoyed me several times, and it hasn't broken the games for me, but I would like to see it fixed.

There's no pause option for any conversation or cutscene in either of the games anywhere. Period.

Why this isn't so eludes me. If I need to go to the bathroom, answer the phone, or respond to someone talking to me, and I'm watching a cutscene, then I have to either wait it out, or leave and miss it.

I'm well aware that, during a conversation, if you do nothing when the dialogue wheel pops up, then the conversation will not carry on until you select an option. This is how I've "paused" the game so far, and it's annoying. Besides, it seems a bit unnatural in the game. While I'm off doing something, Commander Shepard will just stand there staring off into space, and I can almost hear him going "Guhhhhhhh" while waiting for the next neuron to fire.

This is just a humble request, and I don't expect anyone to read this. I'm just wishing there was an option to pause conversations and cutscenes in Mass Effect 3.

So, there's my minor little gripe. Thanks for reading.

BTW, this is the first time I've posted a topic in these forums. :)

Yeah I can see how that can be a bit annoying

Does control alt delete do anything on the PC version (or minimizing to a window, switching out of the program briefly)? You can kind of pause cutscenes on the 360 version using a similar method.

I know. Bioware should incorporate a pause into cutscenes. **SPOILER** In ME1, right when I'm on the Final cutscene on the citadel, my mom calls me and I'm like NO! because i wanted to see what was next seeing as that was my first playthrough.

It'd be a nice feature, definitely. More than once I've had to guess on a dialogue option because I didn't catch what was just said.

I had to answer an important phone call during one of the most intense parts in Lair of the Shadow Broker. I was trying to watch the scene at the same time, but it still kind of ruined the moment for me. =(

During a conversation doesn't the last piece of dialogue that was spoken pop-up above the dialogue wheel if you leave it alone for a while?

PCs, unfortunately, have no guide button, and CTRL+ALT+DEL just makes the game crash. Maybe it's just my computer, as I BARELY met the system reqs, but yeah anytime-pausing would be nice.

Also, how about being able to manage squad points/powers from aboard the Normandy? It was really annoying to have to land somewhere just so one guy could learn a new power... Minor issue, but it was a pain.

Pausable cutscenes yes. Also skipable cutscences after watching them once and for Xbox360 do not have skip button and dailouge select be the same button! Please make them two separate ones like blue for skip and once dailouge options show up no matter how long I press blue it's not going to select that text.

So, the Guide Button works in ME1, but not in ME2.

I´m pissed off.

Yes, someone finally brought my biggest issue with any cinematic, story focused game. Don't get me wrong, I love video games with great stories, infact in the past 5 years, those have been the only types of games I play. However, it is annoying how you cannot pause a cutscene when something demands your attention away from the game. You either have to go forward without knowing what is going on or you have to restart to an earlier point in the game.

Alt+Tab does not work on PC; the cutscene will continue to play even when you're in a different window.

As another mentioned earlier, if you are playing on the PC through Origin, then hitting shift-F1 will open the Origin menu and pause your cutscene.

Weird, isn't it? You can hit escape in the middle of a huge gunfight when there are actual bullets in midair and squad and enemies in the middle of running around, and effectively pause it for as long as you like. But a pre-scripted pre-drawn cutscene? Nope, skip it or sit through it are your only options. And I've found one or two that seem impossible to skip as well.
