it really matters on the story for me, but i like a long game, i loved ME's length, ME2 was too short for me, but ME2 also has almost 0 replayability for me, origins length was good, i hope DA2 is at least longer than ME2 (which took me about 25 hours first go)

For some nothing would be. For others, Origins was too long.

For people who thing the game is "too long" its more about how fun they thought it was and less to do with the acual length of the game.

If Im travellng from New York to LA by plane in coach between two fat people im gonna think that was the longest flight of my life.

If im travelling on my private Jet with strippers and a hot-tub in back, drinking champagne, i'm probably gonna think that flight should have been a little longer.

So basically great games should be long, crappy games you just want to be over.

...yeah but if you own a  private jet  (do you? If you do. BFF!!!!!) you'll just turn it around and fly back again....

..really that has no point to anything anyone has said, nor is it a strange metaphor for something else.  I just wanted to continue dreaming I was on a private jet with strippers and a hot-tub, drinking champagne....

Quality > Quantity. I prefered KOTOR's and ME2's 35 hours over DAO's 60 hours

lol too bad its the other way around in games usually, bioware is an exception. But I think the metaphor is sound. I agree. I guess whats long for people will definitley be different. I guess people would like another origins, but sometimes you don't need a home run to win, you just need a really good hit, To get you to that home plate. I hoping DA2 to be that, At best

No one cares how long a game is, no one wants a game to end they are fully invested in. The problem comes with the "uhg, deep roads again."

The game was amazing, one of the only single player games I can say is worth buying. The problem is, there are a few dated concepts, but they know that, and we know that. There is no BioWare game I have played that I didn't dread the increasing 'feel' of the impending conclusion. Yes, I hate enduring the fade and so forth, but it wasn't nearly enough to warrant a break from the game at any point.

That said, I'm really disappointed to hear that the length will be dulled. While I understand the reasoning, the length brought me back to some old RPGs I played that demanded my undivided (and often neglectful - sorry Michelle) attention, and DA:O completely deserved it.

I loved DAO--in fact I think I can honestly say it's my favorite game of all time--but I thought it was a little on the bloated side. The story was great but some parts of it dragged a little bit (Circle Tower and Deep Roads especially...and Orzammar in general).

It wouldn't be a crime for DA2 to be shorter than DAO. DAO was really long. There's still plenty of room under that bar for a game which is sufficiently long and engaging.

And yet, I found DA:O far, far superior to KOTOR in all respects, and couldn't get into either of the ME games.

Thing is, DA2 isn't shorted, especially by that much, because DA:O was too long. It's shorter because it has a voiced protagonist.

lol sometimes when you make a masterpiece, sometimes it overshadows the rest of the things you do. Still can't believe they're making another DA. Bioware gambling, they usually win...... stilll I feel ya on the hours homie

What I'm trying to say is.. When developers hear people say "i never finished DAo" they think.. oh make it shorter. But really what they should do it make it BETTER.

Keep the pacing (as upsettingshorts says) going all game, no slow spots, keep the action coming, space out dialog evenly then you can make a great long game.

I don't know why people say they WANT shorter games. Do you want shorter movies and shorter cd's and shorter books for the same amount of money? who would?  They just want them to be better

or at least the same hours, though I guess you have to pick/choose the lesser of evils. lol get it lesser XD ahhhh nvm.......

lol pacing is really important for real though, I think movies are getting shorter because the darn movies pacing is too fast, and therefore people get through the movie alot faster, Wish there were would be moments that characters sit down and just let the story flesh itself out instead of relying on too much action for to move the story in movies.

I hope they have good pacing in the DA2, and do that, instead of too much fast action. But in Bioware games, thats what they usually do, they let the story tell itself, and makes a good pacing. So no worrys there

Not entirely true. While voicing the protagonist is a factor, DA 2 would have been shorter than DA:O regardless. Origins had parts that dragged unnecessarily in my opinion, and this is one of those cases where my opinion affects the outcome.

So this time when we go to the Fade it's going to be a triangle instead of a pentagon?   I'd be cool with that.

I agree fully, but I also believe that there are cases where making something shorter is, in fact, a big part of making it better. Every book is made stronger by an editor, even if all they do is cut out superflous words and make zero content suggestions.

Games have flow and pacing, and the longer you make the game, the harder a time you have keeping that flow and pacing consistent and engaging. Conversely, you have a point at which a game is simply too short and feels rushed. There's a sweet spot between those states where the game feels like it's perfectly comfortable within its own skin, its own design and story.

So, shorter is not always the way to fix things, but it's certainly a tool any content creator should keep on their belt.

The Fade. Its the only part of the game that dragged on for me.

Also I'd imagine the Orzammar/Deep Roads to be shortened.

Oh dear, both of these suggestions effectively cut 4-5 hours of gameplay already.
