Mass Effect TV series after trilogy?

I heard rumors they might make a TV series of Mass Effect after the trilogy wraps up. Got thinking about this, and Mass Effect is very similar to Stargate in a way, which was very popular. Since SG-1 and Atlantis are over with, there could be room for something like this to take their place.

The mass relays were built by an alien race like the Stargates and it kind of has a military feel to it. Could kind of see them doing this. Would be cool.

I barely get the reference but I do agree that network show would be good for the franchise much better then a movie.

I really want to know what makes you connect stargate to mass effect seriously, Theres nearly nothing similar among them.

Stargate:

Takes place during present day

Uses planet based gates to travel to other worlds

Starships not introduced untill later seasons (even so not very advanced)

Mass effect:

Takes place in the near future (about 100-200 years without looking it up)

Uses mass relays to send ships to exit relays (ok i'll admit thats a little like the spacegates.. but mass effect ships are alot bigger then a puddlejumper) the ships themselves then take the passagers to the planets

Starships from the start

OK, I actually like the idea of a TV series (been posting something to that effect way back in the old forums). I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon with the movie in the works. If they do it though, I think it would (and should) not be comparable to Stargate at all. The whole style (visually, plot-wise and also the attitude to humor and emotional impact) is very different. It would also have to be an expensive series, with visuals on par with e.g. the new BSG.

And please, NO animated stuff! The comics are bad enough as it is, so I'd much prefer to keep it to a minimum. Just my opinion of course, no need spreading it around :).

That's not funny. Don't joke about that. As to a TV series, sure why not.

The only thing ME might have in common with SG is that both the Mass Relay network and Stargate network let you travel the galaxy quickly... They don't even work the same way. There's just a tiny, tiny resemblance between the franchises, at best.

Also, I'm not sure how much content there is in the ME universe for a proper TV series. I can't think of anything interesting outside of Sheppard's story, and even that is all covered in the game trilogy.

Hmm i would be interested but only if they did it right.

I dont want them to focus so much on the personal lives of the people in it and get so caught up in romances and affairs etc. I dont want it to be a soap opera like battlestar.

If they do it I want there to be action! A good story is a must I'm a huge Stargate fan but I've really been disappointed with the stargate universe so far. I want a story thats compelling like the games and I dont want a lot of needless focus on people and there personal/love lives. If I wanted to see that I'd watch a soap opera or grays anatomy. I watch a scifi show for the well the scifi.

I really don't think a TV series is even necessary. Mass Effect already has a huge media base from games to comics and even a movie in the works. I have a certain amount of faith that the movie can be epic for two reasons: 1. Legendary Pictures and 2. Mass Effect really does have a cinematic atmosphere.

I think having a TV series will simply water the IP down to the mindless bunk standards of today's typical TV shows. Mass Effect does not deserve that kind of death.

I'd rather it not become a tv series. I find that StarGate, BSG, Star Trek and all the others to suck big time.

benny. no offense. but that was one NARROW-sighted quote. you really should think this over.
especially since MOST of these series inspired the game whom this forum is dedicated to.

Well I thought it over and I think the shows I mentioned suck. It's not really my problem if you or anybody else doesn't like it. To be fair there are some good shows but I find the ones that I said to be dripping with cheese. Also, ME isn't really based on these shows. It throws them a nod every now and then, but more inspiration has been drawn from sci-fi film classics than anything.

Short story: I don't want to see ME end up as a tv show, which isn't narrow minded at all. I will admit that I find those sucky shows to have been better films.

Except Star Trek. Posted Image

it is possible that TV series would be greater than just movie. like battlestar galactica, TV shows will bring us more details, and excitement. if there would be a chance to happen, I can't wait.

It's called Stargate: Universe :P

Anyhow, I don't know how they'd manage to keep a Mass Effect show simultaneously epic and on a budget. Especially given that sci-fi shows aren't massive ratings grabbers.

I think a TV series is a great idea. I hardly watch any movies these days as I think most movies are a waste of time and it only last for about 90-180 minutes which is too short.I prefer to watch a TV series as it gives more deep with the characters and its plots. So, yes for games and TV show. But, also yes to epic movies like the lord of the rings trilogy.

Also depends on the network airing it, Fox is bad about airing something new that gets a decent following but doesnt out perform everything else so they can it. Firefly anyone?

HBO, AMC, Starz- I cant see a tv show of Mass Effect being on anything less than these networks, it'd be odd to play the games, see the movie(s) and then see a TV Show on fox or abc censored all to hell.
