Much to my delight, this month’s contest is all about ancient civilizations. For example, but not limited to: Rome, Greece, Egypt, Viking, Oriental,  Incan, Celtic, etc. etc. The possibilities are pretty much endless. Anything and everything goes for this month. Tiles, creatures, NPCs, body parts, clothing, helmets, heads, weapons, loadscreens, icons, portraits, doors, music, or anything else y’all can come up with.

 Rules:
- It must be fully working in game
- Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
- Teamwork is also welcome
- Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!

All submissions must be finished, working, and you must provide me with a download link or email before November 30, 2010.

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster:
- 2da lines needed
- Screenshot for use on the vault page (this also gives me hints on how to display the new goodie)
- Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie
- Any credits you would like listed
- If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional).
- Lots of chocolate. (You can’t blame me for trying to sneak that one in!)

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about November Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or want to submit ideas/themes for future Monthly Challenges please post in its thread here.

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can vote for next month's theme at the following link:
social.bioware.com/2005040/polls/12201/

*edited for formatting and to add the poll link*

*Clutches a detailed wish list.* I'm gonna try really hard to behave myself for this challenge. Stop that laughing Kookoo, I can hear you all the way over here. I can behave, occasionally, if I really work at it. Sheesh!

But should y'all need any ideas or links for visual resources, I have well... yeah... LOTS. ;)

For my part, I'll most likely do some loadscreens. So if y'all have ones you want made, let me know. I can't make new graphics but I can slice and dice an existing one.

So this suggestion/request from Vipre from the poll does not get lost, I'll re-post it here:

more armor based on designs from ancient civs would be nice also, especially the 2004 movie "King Arthur" http://images.allmov..._arthur_002.jpg

Just a quick Q, are these REAL historic and ancient places or can we do fantasy based ones such as Lost City of Atlantis and the like?

I would suggest you can do whatever suits your fancy. Real or imaginary. Afterall almost all imaginary civilizations are based off reality somewhere along the way. And since creators are far more apt to create something great if it inspires them.... as long as it fits in the theme I don't think anyone is going to complain.

Of suggestions I have legion, but sadly the artistic talent of a tick else I'd be right in there. Posted Image

One of the most iconic IMO being Ramses' armor from "The Ten Commandments" Don't think I've seen it done anywhere/would look insanely good on a mummy.

The images shown during install of "Stronghold: Crusader"...fine not ancient exactly but the Arab armor still looks good and sort of fits plus there's great details of the Crusader's different armor styles.

The armor line drawings in the 3rd Ed. PHB/DMG, such great looking armor but I've never seen it done anywhere...fine clearly not ancient but *drool*

Calvin summed it up well.  =)

@Xialya - Neat shield, where is it "from"?

@Six - I'm so going to need a drool towel.

This is a Macedonian/Greek shield.

I'm starting with Greek stuff, then certainly moving on Egyptian shields and maybe weapons since I was looking for that myself.

*Note to self* Budget to purchase a new office chair as I am likely to break the current one from all the happy squirming and wiggling that is going to take place this month. ;)

So there's a good chance we'll get a khopesh (egyptian sword)? Another thing that would be useful are egyptian-style kilts/skirts, as NWN is utterly lacking in that regard.

Should any of y'all enjoy tileset work, this is the most desired item on my hak wish list. These screenies are from Pompeii.

Just outside the Temple of Jupiter looking towards the Temple of Apollo.
Posted Image

Garden section next to the Temple of Apollo.
Posted Image

Housing section just inside the northern gate.
Posted Image

The tiles were done by Grass Master and Tom Banjo. Which have been upgraded in our tileset hak. The original vault entries are here:
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=5224
http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=2498

My wish list (in order of importance, highest to lowest):
- gate/door version of the arched wall exits.
- need more columned buildings. Houses 1x1 and 2x1 (long and narrow). The 2x2 one is used over and over again.
- 2x2 version of the 5x4 temple
- smallish 2x2? new domed building for temples or government office.
- 2x2 version of the 1x1 gazebo
- add fade-able tops to the bigger buildings - two temples, forum entrance.
- walls need repeaters at map edge.
- columned building terrain like in city exterior.
- anything else y'all can come up with!

*edited to get the screenies to ohhhhh actually show up.*

Hi Mistress!

I know it is right at the bottom of your wish list and you were also asking for columned building terrain, but I'm going to make a mini tileset with a building terrain based on roman insulae.

Well, they don't have columns, but who needs columns if you got running water and restaurants in the building? ;)

I'm not going to make these an addition to the Bioware city exterior. I got my reasons for that. So you won't be able to use them with Gr****s tiles. The building terrain by itself isn't much and maybe of little use, but a whole tileset as a contribution to the Costum Content Challenge would be a little too much.

I work far too slow to make a whole tileset in a month. I will add the small temple and a larger version of it to the tileset.

*snorts* Oh yeah, right at the bottom of my list. You should see the huge grin on my face right now. Mostly that is at the bottom of the list cause I figured working from existing stuff would go faster for people?

Now you have me curious about why you don't want them added to the city exterior tileset. Honestly, I won't be able to use them otherwise, but there are certain to be others out there that would love to have 'em!

*boggles* I never expected to have a whole tileset made. Just hoping/wishing for anything along those lines that I can get my hands on. If nothing comes of it, I'm still thrilled to have what is already present in the toolset.

Yeah, I had to split his name into 2 pieces to not have the forum censor it. *rolls eyes*

I should have some loadscreens to post shortly.

Okay, I can give you a few reasons: The most important one is that the Bioware tilesets use tilefade and shadows. The models are pretty simple, so shadows work well. Buildings without shadows would stick out badly between buildings with shadows. I always turn off shadows though and I don't use tilefade for two reasons:
a) because animated parts of the models stay visible and you get floating lit windows at night.
B) because I like to have walkable roofs, balconies, etc which you can't have with tilefade.

[I just editied this to add a third important reason.]
c) because the fading of tiles totally kills immersion!

Another reason are the textures. The old standard city textures just aren't what I want to use for my tiles, but if I use my own textures they won't blend in with those textures. And then there are
so many people using NWNCQ. Chico did a great job at adding roofs to the tilesets, but I dislike the blurry textures he uses and even more those pseudo bump maps.
And before more people tell me how they won't use my tiles because they like Chico's textures so much more I'll just make my own tilesets or none at all.

These where done from either personal photographs or ones I dug up on wiki commons (commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Kezd%C5%91lap).  There are a lot of them so maybe just include a selection of people's favorites?  I know photographs aren't everyone's favorite for content.  So I'm not gonna be irked if y'all don't want these.
