I think it's safe to assume that they'll at least try to give you the opportunity to pick up all the old squad mates. It's supposed to be the last game in this story after all.
But obviously one cannot say the same about DA][. Perhaps something similar in DA]I[?

And it would be pretty lame if you spent 70% of the 3rd game just doing companion loyalty quests like the second. Talk about a waste if that were to happen.

"THIS IS THE NEW SH*T" trailer was considered the best trailer in my circle of "friends". They don't know what Baldur's Gate is, they hear that name and immediately think of Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and go "AWESOME!".

You need some new friends then.

Absolutely agree - you need much better friends.

Considering it has about 5 members total that constantly defend defend defend while mocking those who generally have valid concerns,

As opposed to those such as yourself and others in this thread who mock those defending the game.

Not really, I've voiced plenty of concerns myself, even some in a constructive manner (*gasp*!) but nice try.

And as fun as it is to take jabs at those with different views/opinions as our own I'd like to not see another thread get locked down because of it. That got old last winter.

Discuss the points, not the poster. This applies to people on both sides of the argument.

Is it really considered to be attacking Dave of Canada to say he should find new friends who don't think "The New *$%^" trailer was the best trailer?

Is THAT how low the bar is set?

When I make a general comment like that, it really is a general comment based on the trend I feel the topic is taking. I wasn't referring to those posts.

I wasn't posting on the forums when that trailer came out but I imagine my response to the actual trailer woulda been "meh." And my response to the people attacking it would also have been, "meh."

It's a trailer. I tend not to put a whole lot of stock into them.

HAHA. That trailer! If it weren't for the music I would have loved it, as it was it nearly stopped me from getting Dragon Age.

But I was in the same sort of boat as Dave, in that a lot of people I know were really taken by it...

..I am no longer friends with them.

..because we all moved in different directions...not because of the trailer.

Most of my friends haven't even seen the trailer and they don't know what BioWare is. One thought they were some kind of 'safe the environment' kind of companies when she first heard the name

On the topic though.. The article didn't really provide anything new, more like the same things we have heard over the past months just voiced differently. I'm still waiting for the podcast to come out. (Thursday right?)

As long as I get my DA combat and BW story I'll be happy. Everything else is subjective.

I would argue that the "BW story" is also subjective.

I've maintained all along that ME, for example, lacks the classic BioWare story in that the PC's personality isn't an important part of the emergent narrative (unlike all prior BioWare RPGs).  DA2's use of a voiced protagonist makes another such failing entirely possible.

I still want Bioware to make a game where the main character isn't the hero of the game.

I'm getting tired of essentially being the Poochie that Homer Simpson described. (Essentially a Marty Stu/Mary Sue character)

But I dunno how well Bioware would fare stepping out of their comfort zone.

As a Bioware guy put it in a different topic, I would love to play "Watson to the game's Holmes."

Literary Watson, not bumbling confused ass Watson.

When I first saw the DA2 marketing tagline - "Who is the champion of Krikwall?" - I very much hoped it was possible to make it such that the champion wasn't Hawke, and instead have some NPC become champion when Hawke doesn't do it.

As much as I'd like it, I think to the general audience it would be a hard sell.

BE THE BEST SIDEKICK EVER. HELP THIS HERO TO GLORY OR RUIN.

It'd be interesting, and potentially a breath of fresh air, but I'm not sure it'd sell. Which if we're being honest with ourselves, is pretty important.

The thing with ME, ME2 especially imo anyway is the pacing is way off. At least thats the vibe I always got from the ME titles. Which prolly has some to do with the whole voiced protagonist deal, that I'm not a fan of to begin with.

The movie The 13th Warrior handled this very well. That movie didn't do well in theatres though.

Indeed, as does the example of Holmes and Watson.  It can work well, it just isn't as easy a sell I don't think.

Well, the Watson/Holmes example is interesting (especially since I've been watching that modern adaptation on Masterpiece Mystery - Sherlock) and sounds like an intriguing idea. However, I think it might be difficult to successfully pull that off in a game and really manage to sell people on the concept. I think that the average gamer (and I may be going out on a limb here) wants to have the starring role when they play a game.

If we were talking about House, heh, I'd be willing to be Hugh Laurie's sidekick. :P

I will say that if I'm playing a single-player CRPG, I definitely want the starring role.

You can be the star without being the hero, Fortlowe's 13th Warrior citation is a good example of that. The story then becomes how the star influenced the hero and events behind the scenes. He isn't less heroic or interesting, he just isn't who the fictional world perceives as the hero of the story - despite his rather dramatic involvement in it.

As such, choices like hardening Alistair or not take on a greater level of importance.  The level of influence the protagonist has on the story does not change, only the practical form it takes.

DA3- just have the Warden play second fiddle to Morrigan as she takes center stage dealing with Flemeth. Or flip flop it with Hawke being Flemeth's sidekick against Morrigan.:wizard:
