Not really, since I think that Origins was a bit niche in its overall presentation. You were hit pretty early on with a lot of statistics, and I think there were number of people who were a little turned off by that element of the game. Trying to figure out if you need a high dexterity or not is a little daunting when you’ve seen nothing of the game so far.
This just cracks me up, best selling title to date, yet hey lets completely and totally change the game for the sequel. FIGHT IN ONLY 15 SECONDS PEW PEW! /facepalm

I cannot say that I'm at all surprised by or pleased at this.

Tell that to BioWare's marketing department then too.

but then you have stuff like Fable 3 where in trying to fix the menu, they go overboard and make a much more annoying and tedious system in many respects.
It's almost like they went on an anti-menu crusade. As I said in my rant-blog entry, they simplified it too much that I was confused.

I tried, they didn't listen.
I was hoping that forumites might be more open to cutting out buzzwords.

We understand that Origins is actually BioWare’s best selling game to date. Does it annoy you then that many still refer to it as a ‘niche’ game?

" You can literally start fighting within 15 seconds of pressing the start button, and then the complexity slowly unfolds, easing you into the experience over the first bits of the game."
If this is true, I think its a great idea, as long as the challenge and complexity is still there.
Despite getting my ass handed to me in my first play through, I'm ready to have another go at it and use what I learned.
Assigning stats in the beginning without knowing their effects is a staple of rpg's that could use some modification.

I imagine it might go something like this:
Cass: "Tell me about Hawke."
Varric: "Okay."
(15 seconds have passed)
(You control default Male Hawke as he kills things)
(Sound of record scratching to a halt)
Cass: "Wait a second..."
(Character creation window opens)
Cass: "Even I know that the Champion was a woman!"
I have no good reason to think so, but hey, given the narrative structure it's definitely possible.
i SERIOUSLY doubt that's what he meant
although he said you CAN start fighting in 15 seconds.......he never said you HAD to. For all we know in order to do that you have to skip ALL initial cinematics and character creation and customization.
ALSO
there is a review of the demo floating around and those who played are saying the customization of skills and talents is there (albeit less redundant)

Yup- surely some stuff can be trimmed down or streamlined to be made better. But in Fable 3 they just went overboard and seemingly tried to just have things different for the sake of being different because clearly the status quo isn't any good any we need radical change.... MENUS HAVE BEEN AROUND FOREVER BECAUSE THEY WORK MOLYNEUX!
*Phew*

Eh I'm calling it how I see it, every interview/preview etc so far screams out this is Dragon Age, over the top action edition. Kinda hard to deny it when its repetedly tossed out there over and over.

Oh, I have no problem with you calling it out, I just really don't like the speciifc 'PEW PEW' buzzword. It's annoying and it makes you post look less intelligent despite your points being reasonable.

And honestly I'd rather know why I'm fighting rather than just start off fighting.
That +the needing to explain the inventory...I am not pleased.

15 seconds? I hope that doesn't include character customization. D:

Bingo- action in an RPG without context is meaningless- fun maybe, but empty.
I'm almost wondering, if the actual game starts out like the demo does, if we have to play as BioWare's generic Hawke face during all of the "exaggerated" portions? Its my impression from the demo at least that you only go into character creation after you've done the exaggerated bit. So perhaps BioWare's standard marketing material Hawke face is the default for all of Varric's sequences since thats the "idealized" Hawke of legend, not the one you can make in the character creator?

Oh good god no. I don't find Default Hawke all that good looking. I hate to be forced to constantly look at him.
Maybe they just cut out the CC. They cut out the CC in the demo and I'm not listening to anything else. *plugs fingers in ears and screams la la la loudly*

Don't you know that they already fried the nano-second attention spans and reasoning ability of the Mountain Dew swilling, Chee-Zee-Poof gobbling, New Sh*t-loving demographic with all those pointless statistics in DA:O, Sarah?
Sheesh, the gall of some people in expecting others to actually think a bit two games in a row! Statistics? What utter nonsense, woman!

I feel like, if at all, you will only be forced to play default Hawke in the opening. Which still kinda sucks but I can live with it.
