Hopefully after the first exaggerated portion, if there are any future ones, your outfit might change back, but your face will still be as you've customized, considering that while Varric may be exaggerating again, Cassandra already has a better idea of what Hawke looks like based on Varric's telling of unexaggerated portions of the story previously.

Don't you know that they already fried the nano-second attention spans and reasoning ability of the Mountain Dew swilling, Chee-Zee-Poof gobbling, New Sh*t-loving demographic with all those pointless statistics in DA:O, Sarah?

Sheesh, the gall of some people in expecting others to actually think a bit two games in a row!  What utter nonsense, woman!

Good to see you haven't changed either, still hating on people I see?

Though...I don't understand why such radical changes when the game sold well? If it hadn't I might get the radical changes a bit more but....*sighs*

This just cracks me up, best selling title to date, yet hey lets completely and totally change the game for the sequel. FIGHT IN ONLY 15 SECONDS PEW PEW! /facepalm

I still question the best selling aspect cause EA don;t seem to have  released any sales figures for ME2 since the beginning of the year.

As for the above point so do you think DAO was perfect and unable to be improved?

Assigning stats in the beginning without knowing their effects is a staple of rpg's that could use some modification.

That's.  What.  The.  Manual.  Is.  For.

This attitude, that drives for the kind of game that caters to this attitude, makes for games that I don't enjoy. :(

Ubisoft has eliminated manuals.  It's for the environment man.

15 seconds? I hope that doesn't include character customization. D:

And honestly I'd rather know why I'm fighting rather than just start off fighting.

Bingo- action in an RPG without context is meaningless- fun maybe, but empty.

I'm almost wondering, if the actual game starts out like the demo does, if we have to play as BioWare's generic Hawke face during all of the "exaggerated"  portions? Its my impression from the demo at least that you only go into character creation after you've done the exaggerated bit. So perhaps BioWare's standard marketing material Hawke face is the default for all of Varric's sequences since thats the "idealized" Hawke of legend, not the one you can make in the character creator?

And I thought there couldn't be something more horrorfying.

Dear Douglas Adams, NO!

There's a difference between knowledge and feedback. Playing Hearts of Iron III I know that certain materials will be needed to supply my armies. But how much will I need? To what extent do I need to build up for war? Do I have enough? Is this something I should focus on? Totally incomprehensible in the game for a new player. They could have made the game more accessible without sacrificing an iota of detail.

And unlike others in the thread, I will not simply assume that they are removing detail in favor of accessibility just because. They are not mutually exclusive concepts.

Playing a Paradox Interactive game is a great way to learn how true that is.

As long as I actually get to roleplay in an RPG it's all good.

That interview really didn't have much in the way of new info though, just buzz words. :(

I'm not at all saying to dumb the game down, but rather to give the player a taste of combat before assigning points.

The manual can be in digital form on the game disc.  PDF.  No "paper" to hurt the environment.

And I feel baited. =]

point is my friend manuals are not always very helpful (Mass Effect coughs coughs) and there is a difference between how good a certain upgrade works on paper and how good it actually does in combat (often because of convolution and redundancy)

Poop on that attitude.  Real manuals, done properly, are a joy.  Besides, foresters are paid to grow trees, so cut all you want and we'll plant more, kids.  Image IPB

15 seconds from start is a bit quick. I'm sure that this is some type of quick start option. However, it makes me wonder if perhaps the beginning will be something akin to Zelda's beginning. Idyllic setting/tutorial gradually becoming darker until BAM the poop hit's the fan and the Hawkes are on the run. Hope so. It worked in ME2.

Actually yeah, combat tutorials in the beginning are much more helpful than manuals, even though I lament the loss

Why all the hate on this one? It will probably begin something similar to the demo's, you choose a default Hawke, only specifying gender and class and then after a short fight sequence you can get to build the character. Could be seen as a tutorial of sorts, hopefully it won't be too long. The obvious segue to "Okay, here is what Hawke really looked like/did." and then character creation.

if that happens I'm holding YOU responsible

You'd be surprised with how many people would want limited arrows and deteriating equipment

Hell I didn't know that the regular arrows were of unlimited supply until my fifth playthrough of DRAGON AGE

Ah yes. Figuring how the hell Shepard knew about Thermal Clips when he was dead was a mystery.

I may fault ME2 in some areas but it had the coolest and most engaging start to any game I've played. It sweeps you right up and only lets you breath about 30 minutes later.
