If Sten doesn't come back for DA2, I think it's safe to assume that we have something bigger planned for him later, don't you?

Zomg really?? Sten!!! *happy dance*

Edit: I just really hope that if he comes back, he has the same VA.

Not really. 1) Sten can die. 2) He is a character who has longed served his purpose. To bring him back into the story (be it through retcon or otherwise) would be a waste of time and I'm sure you guys will realize that when you discuss your bigger plans for later.;)

Remember, you guys have a 'must have' and 'nice to have' list and I'm pretty sure Sten making a big appearance is going to be overshadowed by the 'must haves.'

Nothing is safe!

Besides, there is a lot of assuming going on already. You really shouldn't encourage them Image IPB

*ponders* He would either be a Sten or a Tal'Vashot in that case. He could be the Cauthrien of a big player maybe?

Maybe he could be OUR Cauthrien, if we get to play as a Qunari.

Does that mean he definitely escaped that cage? Because he can't be too important if he's dead.

Souls that died used to go to the Golden City, I think.  Now that the Black City is floating all cool in the Fade, I believe souls just wander the Fade.

Sten's soul will probably stand right where he died being grouchy that he doesn't have any earthly burdens to be burdened by, because he's kind of like that.

Excusing the first point, he didn't really have a point in DAO. Only Morrigan and Alistair had a point. It's no retcon for him to become the new Arishok or something and lead the qunari to some sort of importance in DA3. Not everyone's lives should revolve around the Warden (or Hawke).

In the darkest hour of DA3 when the hero faces his greatest foe Sten shall stride forth from the shadows a naked blade in his hand and hearing the heros cry for help shall proclaim "no".

Well he did actually have a point but it was a really simple one: introduce the player to the Qunari. That's about it.

I'd say that Oghren had a point too.

And him becoming an Arishok would be OOC for both the Qunari and Sten. There is no rising through the ranks.

Sure, yeah. I mean, each companion served a purpose in some way or another, be it tactics or helping you out for a specific dungeon. I'm just saying that only Morrigan and Alistair were really relevant. You never even had to meet Sten.

...There isn't? So how do they select Arishok? They pick children? Huh. Also, Oghren doesn't really have a point--he doesn't need to be in your party until you meet Branka. You can do the entire Deep Roads without him. You can also boot him the instant you step out of the Assembly. I do agree, though, he's relevant to that level.

... no.

As this comes from you, I assume it's possible, but not for a moment would I think "If Sten isn't in DA 2, that means he has something even bigger happening in the future."

Yeah. I mean, his role wasn't integral enough to prevent him from being used again in a later game.

Well, in the "story" he is instrumental to your tracking of Branka. Or that was the impression I got.

And they are chosen for what they do at the age of 12 (IIRC), then they get educated for that role and proceed to do it for the rest of their life.

Honestly?  My expectation was that he served his purpose in the narrative.

An Arishok is a high ranking military officer. As long as you're of the warrior caste (like Sten) you can become one. Qunari can rise through the ranks of their caste.

There are promotions. No Arishok has ever taken up the job at the age of 12. Your "role" is "military." or "priesthood." Not, "Second assistant undergardener."

Because he's very interesting and well loved by fans (and devs I'm sure), and though he might not be important for the plot of DA2 there's always a chance he could resurface later?

Seems like a safe assumption to me.

Is there a specific qunari word for 'caste?'

Hm. So your name would change too then. How would we know it was the same Sten? That could actually be kind of interesting as a reveal. Sort of like the Archangel thing from ME2. *ponders*
