A missed opportunity though, surely. Ender's Game + Qunari = Gold, Jerry, Gold!

Note: Anything that dissolves in milk is funny.

Hm. So your name would change too then. How would we know it was the same Sten? That could actually be kind of interesting as a reveal. Sort of like the Archangel thing from ME2. *ponders*

or like the krogan leader in ME2, it could be wrex or the other guy.

could be the same for sten and the current arishok.

And they are chosen for what they do at the age of 12 (IIRC), then they get educated for that role and proceed to do it for the rest of their life.

There are promotions. No Arishok has ever taken up the job at the age of 12. Your "role" is "military." or "priesthood." Not, "Second assistant undergardener."

Good to know. I got the impression that that'd be the case considering the artisan jobs, where a smith would be different from a mason for example. Is it any different there?

I thought hornless qunari had different roles they were supposed to fill than general purpose warriors.

I honestly see no reason for Sten NOT to return. I mean the qunari will play a considerably significant role this time around. Sten not showing up would make no sense, in my opinion. Not to mention he's the one who first declared that a qunari invasion was on the way.

If Sten doesn't come back for DA2, I think it's safe to assume that we have something bigger planned for him later, don't you?

If there is anything I have learned in my years as a gamer, it's that one can never safely assume a developer to do a certain thing.

That doesn't make any sense.  Just because he's a Qunari who expected an invasion of human lands to take place doesn't mean that he'll be deployed as part of it, let alone be near the protagonist.

Just don't make us fight him please. He's my favorite character :)

So it's like going to an american public school?

You get promoted within your field, as much as possible. It's also always possible for a mason or a smith to eventually become Arigena.

There's no reason for Sten to be sent to Kirkwall. I'd have thought Sten would logically be assigned to invading Ferelden, since by Qunari standards he'd be an expert on the place.

I didn't mean he would be part of it. I just meant he should show up in some way, whatever that is. Even if it's just a quick cameo or something.

Well, wouldn't it be the same between a scout and a cannoneer? Or does every soldier start at grunt level?

US public schools are of wildly different quality, depending on where you live and your circumstance. It's not really the same at all.

Without getting into specifics, that is basically by design, as education has been the domain of the states since the foundation of the republic.

All soldiers start at grunt level, though in different military branches. Grunts in the navy require slightly different aptitudes than grunts in the infantry or cavalry.

OP: No one said he's never returning. His final words in Origins almost tell us he will. He just doesn't have a part to play in this story.

What exactly did Gaider say in the interview? Could he have been being misleading (as the devs have been known to) and in fact 'Sten' could still return in DA2 - just with a new name/title. Regardless I hope we get more Sten related stuff at some point, as the playthroughs of DAO racked up he steadily became my favourite companion.

An Archangel style reveal would be kind of awesome too!

Can Qunari be shifted in between branches if they may have better aptitude elsewhere?
Or do they keep working at it until they are good enough?
