US public schools = bad = limted options. Image IPB

US schools typically have each child learn literature and writing, math, science, physical education, social sciences, and art. The better schools will have classes in foreign languages, economics, advanced chem and physics, theology/philosophy, and 'computer science.'

One of the things that distinguishes the American system from others is that you're never expected to specialize outside of certain programs.

ZOMG. Interesting read, but.... please read your post through before confirming to post it, makes life less difficult. Got confused all over at some points....

*wonders about the Sten* Hm, makes me think about that dream/nightmare that Sten had in the Fade.... would be pretty funny

Its obvious that any Origins characters not returning in DA2 yet given some cryptic future role to play in the DA universe all went off into their very own little Eluvians, which of course lead to Deep Space, where they can all join Revan and the Exile in their search for the True Sith, but not before being picked up by the Reapers and making cameos in ME3 and TOR.

Duh.

US public schools are of wildly different quality, depending on where you live and your circumstance. It's not really the same at all.

Without getting into specifics, that is basically by design, as education has been the domain of the states since the foundation of the republic.

After living in Arkansas and Louisiana, all I can say is:  Thank God for Mississippi!

So basically, he's going to be in the expansion. We'll just have to wait for several months after release before we can see him again years after the invasion he was a part of has failed.

And What about the rest of the companions from Origins!? They need big things too.

It'll be like Darkspawn Chronicles- play in an alternate history where Sten led the Qunari invasion of Kirkwall!

Love my family down there. I do try to only visit once or twice a year because I swear I gain 5-10 pounds from my grandmothers cooking.

Many things could of happened to Sten. Like finding a bakery with the best cookies ever and he forms a nasty addiction. Selling himself in the pearl for his next fix of chocolate chips or snickerdoodles.

P.S.
Anyone know what the popular cookies are in Thedas?

Sten had to go back to his home planet.

Sten later died on the way to his home planet.

I would say it's state-to-state. In New York, two credits of foreign language are required (where I live, this translates into three years, since the first year of foriegn language is a half-credit), as well as three credits of math and science--you may, however, pick where you get your credits. You don't have to do, say, Chemistry. You may choose to do Astrology (which I think is actually a half-credit, but whatever). Four credits of English and History are required.

I'm sure it's different elsewhere. Different schools have different requirements. I don't like it when the public school system is just summed up as wholly bad. It varies.

Hope is not a good thing to have around devs who constantly state they have funding to deal with.

I half believe in a Gaider troll at this point (Sten returns, but is no longer a "Sten", so Sten doesn't return but he does as some sort or Arishok) or something, but hope. . .is never good to have here.

It's not so much saying that public schools are bad. There's a great deal of evidence to suggests that, in general, American public schools are lacking. It's comparing them to the qunari system when they're the opposite.

The qunari system is focused. American public schools have you learn a wide range of things that may or may not be of use for your future profession.

it's possible, we never did get to know his name so him becoming arishok would make sense for sten not to appear in DA2 and yet he could appear in DA2 if his rank is different.

Ladies and gentlemen, liberal arts!

<--- liberal arts major, sigh...

But yeah, that actually seems in direct contrast to the Qunari's focused approach.

Good to know. I got the impression that that'd be the case considering the artisan jobs, where a smith would be different from a mason for example. Is it any different there?

You get promoted within your field, as much as possible. It's also always possible for a mason or a smith to eventually become Arigena.

We know Sten is a rank not his name. Will he try to change the view of the tamassrans? I think he might ask for are help to find his missing friend due to learning we can do the impossible job of finding his sword or free us from our prision if we get captured by the qunari or antom.

Or nothing at all because he was a potential casuality in DA:O meaning you guys are far more likely to just jump him rather than write a scenario for him which may not happen depending on whether or not Sten survived your play through of the first game.

Could you actually kill Sten after fighting him? From memory at the end he did say it was inevitable that the Qunari would invade Thedas. It will be interesting to see which "side" he is on having been corrupted/enlightened by the warden and his time on Thedas.

Oh, Sten loved my Warden.  But he's still entirely in the Qun camp.  He'd also dispute that humans are capable of "enlightening" him at all.

My god woman. I..I think....I think I'm in lo......*Shakes it off *

It would be cool if Sten found out his 'father' and/or 'mother' turned Tal' Vashoth, and that somehow it was for Sten's sake. Like They conceived him out of love, but left to become Tal' Vashoth so Sten would have a chance to escape the stigma.

I don't think Qunari are close enough to their parents for this to ever be an issue.

Probably see it as his duty to kill them.
