Well having seen the recent trailer, I thought the graphics looked dated. But you said it looks good, so maybe the game looks much better when you do play it than in the trailer :D.

Obviously it's a matter of tastes. I'm not a graphic **** so I cannot say if the detail of graphic is good enough or if the graphics are dated. The game does not look as good as Assassin Creed 2 if that's what you're asking. What I've seen is that the games looked more cartoonish, stylized and distinct than DA:O and that's especially true in the cutscene between Cassandra and Varric. You can like it or not, but it's a more recognizable and unique look than DAO's lotrish and baroque approach.

About the story being more excellent than Origins...one possibility is that the devs puts a lot of more emphasis on the prologue, than the rest of the game. It could be that it's not representative of the quality of the rest of DA2. Let's hope not.

I've talked about writing and storytelling wich is excellent. I cannot judge the story based on the prologue even if the premise seems really interesting. A new take from Bioware's standard plot. We will have to play the game to decide if it delivers better than DA:O.

Nice review, but last comment isn't true. DA2 is NOT a better game than DA:O under EVERY aspect. The wrong word here is every aspect, because example player has less races to play, that is aspect what was better in DAO. I'm sure if we look other character development choises too we see that DA2 is more limited. My point, DA2 may be better game in MANY aspect, but not every.

Yes, but the last comment was not supposed to be true or to be false. It's only my opinion. I understand your point but for me it was not an issue since I never play elfves or dwarves (was it for me those kind of races would not be in the setting from the beginning). Honestly, Origins were a real good way to understand DA's setting. But as a game feature, they were mostly a waste of resources in my eyes since they have not any kind of lasting effect if not for the Noble origin (wich sounded as the standard one). Imho, you can't tell a story that is good for every race and every charachter. If you focus on story driven gameplay like Bioware, having less choice at the beginning means more depth in the rest of the game (at least, I hope so).

Would be cool to hear "Assuming direct control" (in Harbinger's voice) if the player take control of one of the companions

Heck, would be even funnier if Hawke says all the things Harbinger says when he fights.

"I know you feel this" ~Charge~
"This will hurt you" ~Fireball~
"Your form is weak" ~Smash Maul~

:devil::devil:

Never tried so since it wasn't really necessary and I concentrated on playing Hawke. But there was the option (I seem to remeber that you have to use X on the xbox controller to switch character and I've seen other players doing so).

Now this worries me. I hope higher difficulties make you use your party. What dif level was set when you played?

I liked Origins LotR looks:crying:. The new DS look more comedic than scary.

I have not played with difficulty level so I suppose that it was normal. I hope too that in the rest of the game there will be more need of party tactcs. But consider that I have not used the other party members even because I was not confortable playing DA:O with a xbox controller and without Iso view .

New DS looked like Bondage Apes :D. Honestly, they are not scary. But even DA:O's orcs... I mean... DS were not so scary. At least now they have a unique look and feel.

The problem to me is that they look more like the walking skeletons from Origins than DS. They even have almost normal teeth.

Thanks for the excellent review.

Sorry to pester you with one more question, but did you by any chance get a look at the mage spells? Any insights to how they might have changed?

Thanks,

You can. Left and Right bumpers on PS3 and Xbox; F1-F4, or leftclick on portraits for PC.

Thanks for the review, it's everything I was expecting to hear. Unfortunately this confirms my worries, so I won't be pre-ordering, although I will still buy the game at a later date, perhaps when there's an Ultimate or GOTY edition.

I wonder if you can switch between autoattack and push-to-attack from game options any time you like. (I'm asking for the pc version mainly). Someone? :D

I take a look to the mage skill tree during the exagerated part. There were 5 spell tree with 4/5 spell for tree if I remember well. A dev can correct me if I'm wrong but it seems to me that each spell tree was connencted to an element and that each element has a different purpose (fire for damage, etc. etc. etc). The progression is not linear anymore, in the sense that you can have Inferno even if you have not taken each previous spell in that tree. But I don't know if there are any skill or stats prereq for spells. In general, it seems to me that there are less skills (at least in the demo) and that the sistem is more simple and clear, with less overlappings between different spells. But it should allow more depth since each skill should be customizable in some way. Don't ask me how I've not looked so deep: when I begin to play with the skill screen there were people behind me who began to whine since I wasn't playing [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/grin.png[/smilie].

I don’t mean to be such a Hassler , but I hope it is http://en.wikipedia....cques_Paisible' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'>Paisible to keep my job on the forums. I am after all not a Bacheler , I’ve got http://en.wikipedia....Young_(composer)' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'>Young kids to support. It would be Weelkes before I could collect unemployment. It would be- Hove a nice http://en.wikipedia....Martin_Peerson' class='bbc_url' title='External link' rel='nofollow external'>Peerson as yourself to look past the Funcke that Baroque puns seem to cause. I don’t know the Raison for your distress, but I’m sure someone as Wise and Abel as yourself could see past the Dumage that I’ve caused.
In conclusion I hope you accept my sincere A.Poglietti.

Posted ImagePosted ImageSo I was right! Maybe....  I suspected that each tree would be for an element, but doesn't that kind off cut crowd control and healing a bit short?  Or are there simple less of those spells.  I love hurling lightning and fire as much as they next mage, but I love paralyzing/putting to sleep/debuffing/confusing/healing/protecting too. I hope they haven't been cut down to nothing.

As far as I can tell, each spell tree serves a different tactical purpose. So, you'll use fire for raw damage, ice for controll, etc. etc. etc.
