Terminsel Second Spawn.......

I'm in chapter 6 now and only waiting for Terminsel to finally show up to wrap up the entire Harper plot with the pin.
However ,since I'm not ''romancing'' Jaheira I'll have to wait 5 days real time, is that right?
So, how do I get around this?
Can I leave the game running on *pause* for 5 days without damaging the game, the install or my saves and without causing any kind of slowdowns later on?
I don't want to use any console commands as this is actually the first time BG 2 +ToB run perfectly without any crashes what so ever....
By the way, I'm using BG 2+ ToB with the latest non beta patch and without any fan-patches.

To my knowledge (never done this quest without romance or Fixpack myself) it really is 5 real time days. Traveling won't help. Sleeping won't help. Pausing the game for hours will - cheating would as well (but the OP doesn't want to).SoreTDC wrote...
I can't believe it's 5 days real time.
This is a bug of course.

Also, it probably isn't 5 days anymore considering that I finished all the other Harper stuff way back in chapter 2.
I doubt the game was developed to be paused THAT long.
So, if I let the game run for like 1-2 days while paused, could it cause any problems like slowdown or filled up cache and whatnot?

Seriously?

I doubt it. The maximum cache size is fixed from the config utility, and only increases when you enter a new area, to my knowledge.
The worst that'll happen (hopefully) is that your CPU will churn over at full-throttle for a few days.

You can see my Weidu log there to see how it has been altered by mods.
I'm wondering if it is level related as I was at quite a high level before going to spellhold.

The conditions for Terminsel's second appearance are a bit convoluted, and vary depending on whether the PC and Jaheira are romanced or not. In the case of romance, Terminsel will spawn only after the final lovetalk with Jaheira, after she and the PC have spent the night. If no romance is afoot, however, Terminsel will instead spawn after Jaheira's dialogue that follows the final confrontation with Dermin. He will only spawn provided that:
- Jaheira is in the party.
- You're in Chapter 2, 3, or 6.
- You're in an outdoor area.
- You're not in Trademeet, the Slums, the City Gates, or the elven camp outside the Underdark exit.
Now, in a Fixpacked install, the timer responsible for Terminsel's final spawn is set to ONE HOUR, real-time, regardless of whether the PC and Jaheira are romanced.
In a vanilla, patched install, the timer is set to ONE HOUR, real-time, if there is romance. But!—if there is no romance, the timer is set to FIVE DAYS, game-time.
(UPDATE: Although the timer is, indeed, set to five days, game-time, a mistake in Jaheira's vanilla script causes the game to check the timer against it's real-time clock. This is what causes the hugely inconsistent time frame prior to Terminsel's second appearance. The issue is corrected, however, with the application of Baldurdash or the Fixpack.)
So, in summary, you don't, in fact, have to leave your computer running on end for Terminsel to show his sorry hide. I suppose I should disclaim that I'm in no way, shape, or form a modder, so it's extremely possible I may have misinterpreted the code... but I'm fairly sure that's not the case.
Regardless, I hope that clears things up a bit.

In my experience, BG2 time only advances while the game is not minimized (or closed). The Potty 1 wrote...

I've already tested if it's 5 days game-time, but that didn't work out
Then again, the Baldursdash patch supposedly set the event-trigger from 5 days real time to 5 days game time, which makes WAY more sense.
Do you have by any chance one of the unofficial patches installed?

Oh. Then I really have no idea what's going on in your game, then.R.U.N wrote...

I looked at the dialogue (.dlg) and script (.bcs) files on a completely vanilla install and a separate Fixpacked one. The vanilla game, at least according to the code on my machine, sets the timer to five days, game-time. If there's no romance, that is.
Eh, are you sure you satisfied the other conditions for Terminsel to spawn? I'll double-check stuff in the meantime.
[EDIT] Yeah, I've got no clue what's going on with your game. I have the vanilla script in front of me, at the moment, and it's clearly supposed to be five days, game-time.
There might be something else going on, though. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to test; I don't have any appropriate save-games. All I can do is repeat my advice above: to make sure you've satisfied all conditions necessary for Terminsel to spawn; and if you're positive everything's as it should be, then post back and we can look at spawning Terminsel manually, using the console. Oh, what fun.
Heh. Perhaps I should take this opportunity to point out that the G3 BG2 Fixpack is very, very nice.

I let the game run for 1 day and he still didn't show up.
As for the conditions, all of them are easily fulfilled:
-Jaheira is in the party
-I'm in chapter 6, just after the whole Bodhi ordeal
-Since Dermin's final spawn in chapter 2 (!), a lot of in-game and game-time has passed.
-My PC is not romancing Jaheira, at least not anymore, presumably the variable should be 3.
-I've rested in the D'Arnise Area and Umar Hills, without counting all the time between various subquests in chapter 6.
So, how do I make him spawn manually or atleast know how much more time I've to wait till he shows up?

Once that's all set up and you can access the console in-game, you'll likely need to set one or two important variables relevant to Terminsel's dialogue. Before you start, though, I recommend you make a backup save, just in case something goes awry.
Okay, type the following command into the console, and press Enter for the change to take effect:
SetGlobal("TerminselSpawn","GLOBAL",5)
Terminsel may spawn spontaneously at this point, provided the other conditions I mentioned above are met. If he doesn't, however, it should be fine, theoretically, to spawn him manually. Enter the following command to do so:
CreateCreature("JATERMIN")
Note, that he will spawn in the centre of the game screen, so you may wish to re-position it before entering the console command.
Once you've done that, Terminsel will materialise, walk towards the party, and initiate dialogue. Remember, since your romance is dead, you'll need a reputation of at least 15 for her to get her pin.
I've tested this in my current game, and it worked well for me, but it bears mentioning that I haven't romanced Jaheira and there could be other things going on in the background which might interfere.
Good luck, young padawan. Give it a go, and if it doesn't work, feel free to panic and run around in circles. Or, you could report back here, instead. Whatever floats your boat.

Taken from this thread, on the old forums. And here's another very informative, albeit outdated, page on Jaheira's romance and its related variables.WizWom, (Friday, 22 February 2008 04:39PM)
In the patched install, the spawn timer is added to the game clock and checked against the real time clock, causing inconsistent behaviour.

First, to start the quest. Best if Jaheira's not in the party for some time when talking to Xzar. Right after he dies, join her. Meronia will appear right away.
After resting (in a tavern, I think) Jaheira returns and the battle with Galvarey ensues in Harper hold.
Resting 3 or 4 days afterwards (in a tavern) and then appearing in a zone inside the city (except graveyard), will trigger Reviane.
Resting 3 more days in a tavern triggers Dermin's first appearance
Resting 6 more days in a tavern triggers Dermin's second appearance
Resting outside once triggers Jaheira's disappearance and Terminsel's first appearance. DO NOT DROP THE NOTE HE GIVES YOU. Best keep it PC's inventory, and NOT in a container.
Free Jaheira. Don't let go of the note.
Resting outside for 3 days will trigger Dermin's fight. Don't let go of the note
Resting outside for 5-6 more days will trigger Terminsel's second appearance. If reputation is Heroic, you'll get the Harper Pin. NOW you can let go of the note.

The crucial issue is that the game simply bugs out with this particular timer, because of a mistake in Jaheira's vanilla script. Terminsel's five-day timer is initialised in game-time, but it is then checked against in real-time. This is what causes the hugely inconsistent time frame prior to Terminsel's second appearance. The issue is corrected, however, with the application of Baldurdash or the Fixpack.
I hope that makes some sort of sense.

If he wouldn't have spawned today I probably would've tried to him appear via console.
Thanks for all the help!
What a ridiculous bug, imagine someone didn't do all the other harper stuff in chapter 2, that would mean 5 full days of wasted time in chapter 6

Any idea how can I fix it? I can't apply any patch atm, my laptop ain't linked to an internet. I will try leaving the game paused for the night, with my party outside the D'Arnise castle, and update in the morning.
