I just got the retail copy of the DA Ultimate Edition. I followed the instructions in this thread for the DLC, but after it starts up, I click on "log in" and it says "EA servers no longer available." If I try to start a new game, I get another error message telling me to log in or the DLC won't work. Please help.

Update 1: I can play the game regular game with no DLC fine, but I still don't have access to any DLC. I obviously bought the Ultimate Edition based on the idea that I would be getting all the DLCs included.

Update 2: When I go to start the DAO content updater service (as per the DLC In-Game errors FAQ), I get the following error message:

"Windows could not start the Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."

I will try re-installing the content updater, but the steps look a bit complicated, as I haven't used DOS in a long time.

Update 3: I ran the diagnostic tool and here is the log I get:

[Tuesday Nov 02 20:15:28 2010] Dragon Age CD Key missing from registry [Tuesday Nov 02 20:15:28 2010]

Dunno what the problem is, but that would get my attention if it was my installation.

I just re-installed, and instead of letting auto-run start up, I explored the disc and did a "run as administrator" on the setup file. Interestingly, it does now say " Dragon Age CD Key found" but unfortunately, I get the same results when I try to log in in-game.

Here's the new log:

I don't know what's happening. I've tried turning off my firewalls, setting internet security to low in internet options. I've tried the steps to uninstall the DAUPdater.Service.exe from the stickied thread, but it doesn't even find the file (I triple checked the path and its there). No other programs seem to have problems connected or downloading. I do notice that the DA launcher also says "Updating News" but never changes. Offical EA support just told me I have "connectivity issues" and just gave me a list of random things to try like cycling the power on my modem, turning off all firewalls, and finished it by telling me to contact my ISP because they might be blocking certain ports for security reasons. Seriously? I am connecting from home through TimeWarner RoadRunner service, not through a college campus network or an office.

Sounds like something's wrong either with your permissions or your installation... I'd suggest removing the game, then removing the Dragon Age folder in the "My Documents" folder, and then reinstalling the game to a different location. Also make sure you don't use ECN as it can screw up the connection to EA servers for some reason. If you're using a router then make sure all ports for the game are open.

What is ECN? I think before I mess with port settings, I will try just unplugging my router, and hooking up directly to my cable modem. All I need is to enable the DLC right? Also, I am running Vista 64 bit. The default installation is in C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Dragon Age.... The second time I tried re-installing, I put in the regular Program Files folder. Should it be in the x86 folder?

Have you tried letting the service run as admin? And making sure the system can access the exe?

ECN is a function found mostly in newer routers under Windows Vista / 7 which is supposed to improve some function of the router (don't remember what exactly). Anyway, it's disabled by default, which is good because the game never connects when it's enabled. Do a google search for ecncapabilty, there's a command line function that can show you the status in your router (something with -netsh show global in the line), it's really not hard to find.
The folder to which you install the game doesn't matter, for all the game cares you can install it under Program Files\\Buggy Games\\Dragon Age, and it'll still work. What's important is that the game settings and information folder which includes your saved games and DLCs is in the Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age folder.

Ok, at this point I am CONVINCED that I have a corrupted file somewhere in the installation. I installed on a completely different computer (that met all requirements) and have the EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I even scrapped my old router for a new one. On top of that, I took the laptop (which I originally had it installed on) to several other locations, my university, and my friends house who connects through Verizon DSL, and even tried installing it on his computer. Will Gamestop exchange the discs if I take it back?

I get that message ("EA Servers no longer available") whenever I have daorigins.exe blocked with my firewall and/or I have purposely disabled the DA Content Updater from the Startup menu.

Sounds like something's wrong with your installation files indeed. I suggest trying to contact gamestop anyway, and if you can do some research and manage to find the problematic / corrupted file I can try to send you my file and see if it works perhaps... Just a suggestion, no idea whether it'll actually work, but it might...

Hi, I had exactly the same problem. In the end it was simply that my firewall was blocking the game and I didn't warn me!!

But perhaps your problem is different as you have installed in other computer and it doesn't work.... Anyway check if you have the same firewall/antivirus program in both.

Hey guys. I know this thread has been up a while but it seems like nobody really answered the question of why they couldn't connect to the EA servers. My wife and I have been racking our brains for a while and decided to check all our firewall and modem settings and we found that if your date and time setting on your modem doesn't match up with that of the EA servers then you wont be able to connect. Hope this helps. It worked for us.

I just recently purchased DA:O ultimate edition from steam and its not that its not connecting to EA servers I have actually discovered for some unknown reason DA:O is actually cutting off the internet connection from your computer which is really strange, as this is the issue that I am having with it at this current time and EA games has no support for this issue from what I have been able find so far

You won't know that from anything here at these forums. Only EA Support can answer what they can or cannot help with.

I'm having a very similar problem, but not quite the same.

I got DA: Origins off steam back when it first came out, and everything ran well. Now, I decided to go through it again, and can't log in. I'm not getting the "Not connected to the internet" message, I enter my username\\password and click log in, the "Connecting to EA servers" message pops up for a fraction of a second, and then disappears.

I know it's getting through to the EA servers because when I put in the wrong e-mail or password, it tells me the username/password is wrong.

Any idea what's going on?

Has anything changed on your system since the last time you played? It sounds as if your firewall is blocking something. As long as your DLC is authorized, you do not need to log in at all.

It's a complete reinstall, I don't normally keep games on my hard drive years after I'm done playing them, so all the DLC will need to be re-downloaded.

It's not a firewall or anti-virus problem, I've tried completely disabling both of them with no change. I've even set up the firewall to block Origins in order to verify that, when that's the problem, it produces a completely different problem, the "Not connected to the internet" message.

My problem is that there is no error message whatsoever, it blinks on the screen that it's connecting to EA servers, and then that blinks off, with no connection.

See the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top. You can also check the 1.05 beta patch thread. You would need to switch to the EA digital version (which your Steam CD code entitles you to) because of the way Steam handles patches. Details are in the thread which is also pinned to the top.

Steam users often find that they must manually start the daupdater service that validates the DLC the first time (or even install it by clicking the exe file in the DAO folder. Again, directions are in the solutions round-up thread pinned to the top. I would run through the potential problems and solutions there first and then if you have problems, see the read first before posting thread also pinned to the top of the forum. I know your system has run the game before, but sometimes driver updates cause issues, so knowing the system specs might help pinpoint the problem if the standard fixes don't work.

Solved!

While looking through EA's site to try and find the download version, I passed by their troubleshooting faq, and found the solution. DA:O Doesn't support special characters like !@#$ in the password field, and fails if you have any in your password.

Changed mine to numbers and characters and it works fine now.
