That Geforce is another one that requires an upgraded power supply. It cannot run on the original equipment unit in a branded PC, so that adds $50 to its cost, because any PSU cheaper than that is a big gamble.
I have usually suggested a particular article I found once as being good for someone who has never done it. I'll look it up.
Well, no luck in the bookmarks that FireFox collected on this PC. The one I had before was at Sharky Extreme, I think. I'm not favorably impressed with GameSpot, but this article has lots of photos.
http://www.gamespot....2716/index.htmlIt doesn't mention drivers. Use the Add/Remove Programs functions in the Control Panel to uninstall the current video drivers before shutting down to do the mechanical add-on. Often, a utility such as Driver Clean is also useful.
New video cards usually come with a Quick Install brochure, folder, or chart. It will tell you how much you should allow the New Hardware Wizard to do.
OK, I'm in the EDIT mode now. I added the name Sharky Extreme to my Google Search, and what I found ended up being the older version of the article I had in mind, not what I wanted at all.
There has to be a good tutorial that covers all of the bases the way that the Sharky's article from 2007 had done!
Here's a "decent" one, but not as good as I would have preferred:
