I realised during my playthrough of the game that the character I designed is ugly as sin. This didn't bother me in the beginning, but it's annoying the crap out of me now.

Could I use the toolset to change the face of my character, without changing any stats or anything else? I really don't want to restart the entire game right now... :(

Yes you can, you can use the head morph editor and save editor to replace your head with whatever you can make.

Keep in mind that it is a full replacement, you have to start from scratch. But the toolset editors allow for far better customisation than the game itself, paradoxically.

There are tutorials on this very forum to get you started, look around.

I'm an example of a custom head with the extra textures you can use in the toolset

From what I gather it's pretty simple, you make a face with the morph editor, and then on your saved game, under SAVEGAME_PLAYERCHAR_CHAR\\\\\\\\SAVEGAME_APPERANCE you change the SAVEGAME_APPERANCE_MORPH_NAME to your morph file.

I read somewhere that you shouldn't use generic names(as in elf for example) as it might override some npc's face etc.

I'm pretty sure there are some detailed topics about this, but Search doesn't really like me atm so I can't provide any links.
:(

Edit: Take a look here [social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/8/index/115064/1], you'll find more detailed information.
