So use the same e-mail address, but that doesn't mean you have to actually use the FB account for anything else. I would still consider that a "dummy" account. You still wouldn't have to use your real name, invite friends, or put anything on Facebook.ElvaliaRavenHart wrote...
I don't think a dummy account on facebook is going to work. I would imagine you'd have to have the same email address that you use for ea, bioware forums, and their stores for the new content in the flash to dl to your game. It just makes sense that it would work this way.

I don't understand all the FB hate either. If you sign up for FB, you don't have to actually use it. You don't have to pay. You don't have to post compromising pictures of yourself that will get leaked because of all the horrible security or whatever. You can't lose anything if you never put it there to begin with. You don't even have to use your real name. It doesn't seem like it should be such a big deal to have a dummy account just for promotions like this.
You will have to use the email address that is registered here to redeem the unlockables which seem to be the only reason to bother with FB at all. So FB at least has a real email address, free to abuse (sell it to third parties like with several FB games, spam it, let it get stolen due to lacking security by another FB database hacker, include it in searches or whatever - worst case, but still). Plus, many people have principals, and they simply do not want to be part of the next user milestone FB announces, dummy account or not.

Then I guess only us sheep who lack principles will get to play it. Alas.TM13h wrote...

I'm fine with it on Facebook, so long as they don't do something like "Invite 10 friends to play and get an exclusive item for DA2!"
That would be pretty annoying. Hopefully you can unlock everything by just playing it.
This is an agenda I FULLY Support! I didn't like it when you had to go and beg people for help on the various games and I hope they don't do that here, as you pointed out. That would be a sure fire turn off. But I think they know that and to bring empty bodies in to never even play the game would not help BioWare at all. So, lets do it right BioWare.......

I was just considering how I purchase dlc for the game when I made this comment. I see what you mean now with a dummy account. I still have issues with it being on facebook. I'll have to wait for more information on Legends then I might reconsider. Flash games aren't my thing. I'm a bit concerned that this house or castle that we are to get is the item that we will have to unlock for the game. I'm going to be disappointed if I have to play this game to obtain a storage chest. This hasn't been confirmed one way or another so don't flip out everyone, speculation on my part.
I guess facebook is the thing since I read yesterday that Queen Elizabeth now has her own page. I saw a press release for this yesterday, this made me laugh that the Monarch of England will be in the know about facebook.

If DAJ is any evidence to the quality of the narrative and production value that DAL will be then that alone is all the proof I need to know that DAL will be just another example garbage collection by FB.
Then there is the fact you so far haven't even bothered to finish your first flash DA game. If you can't finish making one why should we play the second which you undoubtedly won't finish making either.
If the point of DAL is for me to socially interact with other gamers then they are stupid enough to believe I give a crap about interacting while playing. I play or I interact I don't do both at the same time. Plus if they truely wanted people to interact while playing they would add multiplayer to DA2 not make some pathetic flash game that any Atari game can beat in quality.
While DAJ had it's own website it was done so freaking poorly it was more of a joke than an actual game. Don't get me started on the support staff there, they were blithering idiots when it came to problems, they suffered from either an inability to read, an inability to comprhend the English language in a written form, or both. They must have hired two year olds, I met three year olds smarter than their support staff.Realmjumper wrote...
I will not be playing this game, I find Facebook to be a parasite. To make it exclusive to Facebook, I don't understand the decision behind that when the other one had it's own website.
Anyone who is registered on FB is not my friend, same for any other website like it. If you are that much of an attention **** then you lack the intelligence required for me to even consider you worthy of telling the time.casedawgz wrote...
I find it a little odd that people have
friends urging them to create a Facebook, but the thing that finally
gets them to do it are some odds and ends in an rpg. Don't you guys like
your friends?
So DAL will be a failure in security a failure in not selling my data, and a failure to be any better than the abysmal garbage that is DAJ. Good to know you are striving for failure. Moron.<_<Chris Priestly wrote...

Even with the whole dummy account thing, it still doesn't sit well with me. Shouldn't need to go through a third party to play things associated with the game, says me.
Also, having read some more on the details of the EA and Facebook 5 year deal that they just made, I wouldn't be too surprised if some optional micro-transactions pop up with this thing.
"Under the terms of the deal, EA will receive 70% of revenue from Facebook Credits and Facebook gets the other 30%. Consumers use the credits to play games and buy virtual goods within the apps."

Hey, if there's money to be made off of this thing, why wouldn't EA pursue it, right?

Where did you find this info? Does this mean that we will have to purchase facebook credits to play this game or use certain aspects of this game. If so that is a definate deal breaker. I have purchased all of the DAO Dlc but I will not for any reason spend money on facebook. Thats just a line I wont cross no matter how great the additional content is. I have seen how well facebook protects its users information and I do not trust them at all and I never will.

Nothing DAL has to offer by way of story or DLC for DA2 is worth joining one of the best examples of humans deserving to be wiped off the face of the Earth like the Black Plague
I'll keep your quote here just in case you eventually realize how stupid that was and try to edit it.

I'd expect that Dragon Age Legends will be free to play (makes for good avertising) but at the same time I wouldn't be too shocked to see some sort of mini-transaction down the line that would give you some additional content for DAL and maybe an in-game benny for DA2.

Go ahead and do that. I will never realize that my decision is stupid. The only thing I will ever realize is that humans who join are dumber than dirt and should be pittied because cockroaches are smarter.Tocquevillain wrote...

You're already going through Microsoft, Sony, or some PC/parts manufacturer in order to play it. Until they start manufacturing their own hardware, you're always going to have to go through third parties in order to play any of their games.Napalm Jim wrote...

In that sense I liked it how it was when it was for .edu domains. Not because it was exclusive or anything, but because of the website it was then. Sure, it's added a ton of features and has clearly expanded well beyond that, but not a heck of a lot it added what I considered improvements, and most if it I felt actively detracted from the experience.
So I stopped using it. Still, I'm not going to claim that all people with a Facebook account can't be my friends or worse, need to be ethnically cleansed. That's just being a casual sociopath.

I guess it's just trendy now to be anti-trendy but that's no reason for people to belittle their fellow human beings for using some piece of the internet on a regular basis. It's surprising to see more "Facebook sucks!" posts in this thread than "Hey cool, Bioware, can't wait to give Legends a try!"

I'd equate the way the decision strikes me as similar to bending over to pick up a penny in a parking lot. It's not difficult, it won't do any harm, but I'm almost entirely sure I don't care.
That might change if it turns out the in-game DA:2 rewards are fantastic or something, but I would be surprised if they were.

It's just taken from the EA/Facebook deal. A lot of facebook games utlize a micro transaction system (like many MMO's are beginning to) and these are purchased using 'facebook credits' these days from what I gather. However I have never seen a facebook game that requires you to spend money to play it, usually these micro transactions are in the form of sought after decorative items or items that speed up an aspect of the game (resource gathering being an example). I wouldn't worry about it, should you be interested in playing DA:L in order to unlock the DA2 content I am 100% certain that at the very least most of it will be unlockable without worrying about the micro transactions (and I am confident that it will all be unlockable for free).
I'm not exactly sure why the facebook hate in this thread is to the degree it is, I know all the stories/facts/rumours about the thing and use it myself and while there are aspects of it that are less than positive I've seen nothing worth the melodrama I'm seeing here. Facebook alone won't end hardcore gaming folks! Nor will it come into your house while you sleep and eat your budgie!*
*Probably.
