Am really, really enjoying the music for this game (and the sound design in general), but after listening to the vocal parts a couple times, I've been wondering, is anyone able to make heads or tails of the lyrics? Are they just gibberish, or are they sung in a particular language? If they are, which language?

I am interested too. Sounds like Celtic to me.

Dunno neither, but you can see a music documentary and the singer actually singing the intro song here

It'll probably be made up jibberish but organised jibberish, The vocalist for DA Audrey Ashburn is from Ohio it's doubtful she knows any Celtic let alone be proficient enough to sing in it.

Lisa Gerrard for example who did the Gladiator music with Hans Zimmer has her own made up language which she uses a lot, an extract from her wiki page gives more detail.

"Gerrard sings many of her songs, such as Now We Are Free and Sanvean in a language of her own invention that she has developed since the age of twelve. She thinks of it as speaking to God.[11]"

I can sing in Celtic without speaking it. Hell, I can sing in German and Japanese as well. Memorizing lyrics isn't difficult, and pronunciation is particularly easy when singing.

An already existing song from which you could listen to and practice yes, but the DA:O theme isn't an already existing song is it and I really really really doubt they've taken the time to learn celtic and make a perfectly sounding song from it much for the same reason Hans Zimmer and Lisa Gerrard didn't and they had a much larger budget ;)

No, its far more likely its jibberish which is meant to be passed off as mystical elvish or something and they've done a cracking job at it. Anyone who feels strongly that it isnt jibberish needs to go find some extracts that prove its lyrics are structured and have coercion.

She still had to practice it. Could be the same gibberish Elven language they used for LotRO and World of Warcraft, who knows?

Pretty sure the LotrO Elven is taken from Tolkien's Elvish. Calling that gibberish may call down scary fanatical fans on you, seeing as he was a linguist who constructed all his made up languages from basic principles.

The words from 'Origins' and 'I AmThe One' sound similar to those used for 'Leliana's Song', which is ingame Elven, but that's just an opinion, I have no proof :(.

When I heard the load screen music (what is that called?), my heart just melted from the power of the song

I know that the lyrics and translation for Leliana's Song (In Uthera) are on the Dragon Age Wiki. Are the lyrics for other songs posted somewhere?

Wow, that was an awesome video. I can hardly imagine that a real person sings that song. That lady has a beautiful voice.

Oh yea, I also wish they had more music. I still can't think of a game that has a better soundtrack than Guild Wars and Metal Gear Solid series; although, the rest of Guild Wars sequel's songs sucked. That is only my opinion though lol.

I wish I had the lyrics to the song from the main screen. Even if it is gibberish, surely a particularly clever writer could come up with some fancy meanings or something. That's what I'd do: take the gibberish and "translate" it to English. Heck, I was working on a fantasy story of my own not to long ago, made a handful of basic rules, and invented a small glossary.

Hi, sorry to dig up an old thread but I noticed this question had never been answered, Until now! Yay me! According to "Behind the Music of Dragon Age 2" on 1up.com the lyrics are sung in the Elvish language that BioWare created for the Dragon Age universe.  From the article - "As with Dragon Age: Origins, Zur collaborated extensively with vocalist Aubrey Ashburn for some of the signature songs in the game. For the main title as well as songs like "Rogue Heart" that she's featured in, Ashburn mastered the Elvish language that Bioware created for the series, and wrote original lyrics to fit the emotions of the songs she performed for the project."

If you want to try and translate it the Dragon Age wiki has a partial translation of Elvish. http://dragonage.wik.../Elven_language
