How so? It looks EXACTLY like console Origins, just... better.

I play on the PC, and it looks completely different.  I know there are people who like a voiced protagonist.  I am not one of them. A big part of the immersion for me about DA:O was becoming the character -- the dialog was said in my own inner voice.  This is...  different.

I'm not saying better or worse.  I'm not going to argue that.  This is personal preference.  But it has a much different feel than DA:O did.

Edit: And it's good to know that the people who were upset were correct in their assumptions.  You may disagree with us being upset and think the changes are good.  But you know, at least we can't be told any more that we're making things up and should wait until seeing the actual game in action.

THIS is what many of us are decrying.  It's very different.  And now I'm sad :(

I'm sure it will be a good game.  And I'm sure I won't be nearly as drawn into it as I was to DA:O.  This may not be a bad thing.  A game as epic as DA:O, the style of game, is obviously being left behind.  Hopefully some new game will pick it up :)

My god some of you people are ****ing dense.

Why would you post something you know isn't sanctioned by EA on the god damned company website.

You know what the end result is going to be.

I agree but I also say "Death to the paraphrasing"

Eh, to me having the line and then hearing them say it is like having the character repeat themselves.  Still, I don't want to get sidetracked and turn the thread into another "dialogue wheel/paraphrasing pros vs. cons" debate.

Edit: I seriously hope PC users aren't stuck with that interface (I don't think we will be).  But omg, yeh, it will be watching Hawke, not BEING Hawke.

That was ensured when they voiced the PC. You can't be someone that has his own voice and not yours, you can only follow along. I'd love those people saying that this not an action (RPG) game to come and repeat it again after this.

Observations from Illborne's video.

* There is inventory. Yay for inventory! Dunno what will actually go into it, but I hope we'll still have the DAO equipment slots + usable items.

* The eyes are still pretty freaky-googly, especially on Hawke.

* Awesome armor suits are awesome.

* Is it just me or Flemeth and Aveline's busts are actually smaller than Beth's? Is there an exaggerated/nonexaggerated discrepancy or are there different bodytypes (for NPCs at least)?

* The animations are too fast. I'm not saying they should be DAO-2hander slow, just a little slower. I kind of dig the way they hold weapons though. Not the most realistic, but it's cool.

All in all, the naysayers are largely wrong. Hopefully most of their fears will be vanquished when Bioware releases some proper PC gameplay.

My definition of action RPG means it has twitch mechanics - like Deus Ex, Fallout 3, or Mass Effect.  Ergo, I can still keep saying that DA:2 isn't an action game.  See how that works?

I'm disappointed. Hawke doesn't get the chance to loot Wesley's sweet Templar armor.

Since right after that it went into a really really awesome - seriously Bioware whoever is responsible for it and creating it ought to get a bonus - stylized cutscene describing how they crossed the seas to the Free Marches, I expect we don't actually see Gwaren.

I LOVED that- nostalgia or not, but it reminded me of the Chapter endings/intros to Baldur's Gate 2

I thought they looked okay, I didn't like the idle animation for dual wield but I almost never like the idle animations in game.  The idle animation for dual wield is only slightly less annoying to me than the idle animation for the Apprentice in The Force Unleashed.  Ugh, who taught these people how to hold weapons?

I hated the awkaward hips wiggle Rogue Hawke was doing while standing- is that a nervous twitch or what?

I actually didn't mind too much of it, but the combat "looks" silly to me still- the animations just aren't doing it for me. They're too fast and quick and yet you're still jogging around, so its very herky jerky with no heft or gravitas to anything, nevermind the clipping that was going on as everyone got bunched up- reminded me of trying to open a door in origins and having everyone get stuck.

and flemmeth actually looked younger to me, looked like she had less wrinkles. is it just me?

Yup- I don't know if it was the light or what, but her face looked a little Botoxed up since the last screens we saw.

But the biggest issue I had were the faces again and the facial animations. They're just tremendously awkward looking- They have the zombie/dead eyes where their eyes aren't moving, they're just staring straight into space and whenever somebody moves their neck to look at someone its about as convincing as watching one of the old animatronics on the Pirates of the Carribean ride at Disney.

And when Aveline freaks? I thought her eyes were going to pop out of her head literally.

I really hope those weren't the final facial animations as the whole shift to a more cinematic presentation really isn't doing them any favors.

I definitely want to see some PC footage now though.

Girliest comment ever: I WANT FLEMETH'S EARRINGS

Aw. It's nice to see all the Hawke siblings teaming up. Family! Seriously though, still looks fun and awesome from where I'm sitting.

Think the circular menu is just console way to implement the equivalent of what the point and click combined with toolbar allow on PC.

For Origins, the wheel has:
A button that opens up the inventory.
A button that allows us to use advanced settings, like switching weapons or telling companions to hold position.
A button that allows us to change party members.
A button that allows us to browse potions, also is the only way we can access herbalism.
A button that allows us to browse poisons and traps, also the only way to access making poisons and traps.
A "Quick Heal" button that uses the most appropriate potion to your current health.
A button that has all our sustained abilities.
A button that has all our activated abilities.

From what I've seen in DA2, we're now capable of moving individual party members (something that wasn't allowed in DA:O). Making me a happy panda.

Who cares WHAT it's called? I feel bad for console gamers now -- perhaps this is why porting games is a bad idea. I can see why you want improving.

But ugh, for PC gamers, plus the voiced protagonist. For me, just ugh.

BTW, this video proves Carver can be alive, but it looks like Hawke's mother isn't present at the end so...

The interface is supposed to be different.  They've said from the start they've been designing both interfaces to suit both platforms.  What works for the consoles will not work for the PC and vice versa.

It seems the only negative assumption that this video proves correct is that Hawke will be voiced - which wasn't an assumption at all but a well known fact.  And the animation speed is kinda fast.  What else does it confirm?

We haven't seen the PC interface or GUI yet.  Your negativity on that front is premature.

My feelings exactly. I just find it impossible in any game I've played with the player VO to end up getting nearly as involved as a game with a silent PC and full text.

It's not my video. I found it by following another link to gametrailers via this thread.

Maybe it's just me but could they have modeled the new Flemeth after Janewa- I mean Kate Mulgrew?

No, but I don't really expect you to get what I'm saying.  I honestly understand why you think this is an improvement.  I don't know what I was hoping for, but it was something more than that.

The animations... bleh.  The whole way it feels like, during the conversations, watching a conversation instead of having one.  That should have been a deeply emotional scene -- and it probably will be.  Like watching a movie.  Not being the one doing it.

Ah well.  Hopefully some other game company will make amazing games for this "niche" market I seem to be a part of.

I'm not sure I was one of the people that said that, I thought it. Still think it now too. I mean, that's pretty much exactly what Origins was on consoles.
I'd rather not do the aRPG debate thing, though. I'm just saying it's no more an aRPG than Origins was.

I understand what Sylvius the Mad says even though I almost always disagree with him.  I'm looking for an explanation, not validation.

I suppose what you mean is something along the lines of "I was always dreading a voiced protagonist and now that I've seen it in action in DA:2 I know I won't like it."  Which I understand.

@ ejoslin:

Sorry if I get this wrong, but so what you're saying is you don't like the way the camera moves around Hawke during conversations? You'd rather it was more static?

It may seem odd to people, but I loved DA:O's conversation system.  When I'm having a conversation with a person, there's no camera jumping around, changing angles.  I really felt like *I* was having a conversation.  I was able to immerse myself into the game, and put myself into the warden.

I get some people prefer the dialog wheel and watching a conversation, but gah, I'm not one of them.  I was hoping it would still maintain SOME semblance of holding a conversation (kind of like TW, though I wasn't able to get too deeply into the character in that as well), but there's not even that.

It's truly cinematic.  For better or worse.

Not liking the combat animation right now. Most of the time it's so fast it's silly with no "oomph" to it. Sometimes there are awkward pauses after special moves, especially for the rouge, that seem to break the flow of the fight a bit, too.
