Getting ideas from fans is great and thats what makes Bioware great, but making a game with every idea coming from the fans? That would be horrible. Most fans cant agree on anything, how the hell are they supposed to tell people who make games for a living how to do there job? Would a civilian tell a soldier how to strip a gun?

No but a civilian (cough... the president, cough.... cough....) could tell the army where to fight a war.  That was a joke, but in all seriousness I was suggesting using the majority vote, so that not everyone had to agree.  Sometimes having fresh pairs of eyes helps (not always, but sometimes).

it's a neat idea, ganp0t, but I doubt it would ever happen, whether it's based on majority vote or not. There's just too much risk for the developer and not enough incentive, or even very many sales prospects, for such a project. At least, I don't think there would be, and you would have to come up with some pretty persuasive numbers to change people's minds.

As for the U.S. President commanding the United States army, that's a little different. the President is also the armed forces' commander-in-chief. It's part of his job description as laid out in the U.S. Constitution. It is not part of the job description of ordinary gamers to direct any video game developer, each of which is a corporate entity.

I can see some potential for this if we're able to conduct it in an organised and mostly civilised manner, although it would probably require several months of preparation to just set up a decent enough system in which everyone can make suggestions and vote.

I knew from the beginning that my idea would never happen, I just wanted to see how people responded to it (the answer: very negatively).  I agree that there is too much risk for anyone but an indy developer to try it.

As for the president thing, I realize the difference.  But it does make me marvel at the U.S. founding fathers' wisdom at putting a civilian in charge of the military.

This is why Neverwinter Nights was such a great game.

It gave you a Toolset, utilities and the like to make any type of module you wanted.

Didnt like the Original Campaign? Make one yourself. Singleplayer modules? possible. Multiplayer Modules, pve-pvp-alternative setting ect.? All possible. That is the closest thing you can have for a "community" made game.

A (user friendly) toolset, and a modulair design is all that's needed to make a game where the community can make whatever they like. The game doesnt need to have all the wishes of the community in it, let the toolset/utilities handle that combined with the talent that will undoubtly be drawn to a Toolset and Utilities.

That's why I'll keep asking for that 'spiritual sucsessor' to nwn. There's no need to reinvent the wheel, just a NWN with today's graphics.

...You don't think that maybe BioWare should focus instead upon making their game better instead of essentially making us a toolset and saying "go play now"? I mean, what about the people who didn't have internet at the time, or were terrible programming and using the toolset? They should just settle for a mediocre experience? Bioware is a professional company, not some random Tom, Dick, or Harry on the street. What they make is going to be better than 99% of anything else we can.

Toolsets are great but in no way a guarantee for the game or a necessity.

And you'll get one from Activision next year.

Boy, that will be weird. People suddenly praising Activision.

If they did this, the whole game would be about having sex with Tali and seeing her face.

This is sadly true.

Don´t worry. I guess around 99% of players would probably hate Tali after seeing her face and blame BW for ruining some dream. It´s the problem with masked characters. Unmask  is never up to the hype.

Which is exactly why I hope they unmask her.... do away with the taliban. They give the character a bad name. lol

This is a tad late, but I just found something rather interesting:

http://www.swtor.com...icle/20101105-0

Now I don't want to say I called it, but I will anyway cause I'm so excited. I called it! And before someone else points this out, yes I realize this is a single poll about something superficial (and in the end meaningless), and that the Old Republic isn't in pre-production (I think it is actually in beta). So it is very different from my idea. The point is that Bioware are actually letting players choose something. Baby steps are still steps. I would venture to say that this is a very popular thing, too. The poll currently has almost 20 thousand votes, and 174 pages of comments (from what I saw, it was all praise for the poll).

P.S.

@UberDuber

I know this is completely off topic, but I must say that is the most hilarious sig sticker I have ever seen. Actually, how do you get sig stickers? I have never thought to ask before.
