I really do care for the items. I really, really want them.
But there's simply no feasible way to get it all without jumping through hoops or pre-ordering an insane amount of copies, including the CE. At the same time, the items does extremely little to make people pre-order. It just annoys those of us that aren't or can't get the items legitimately.
I've even started a group with the sole purpose of finding ways to add the items to the game without jumping through hoops. I'm not going to play the game until I know that I have the full experience. And items, no matter how trivial, is a part of that.
Hmm . . . if it's not feasible for you to order lots of copies, maybe you can ask for codes from the weird old school people who only want the "pure" game without these add-ons making it easier? I know they exist, because I've seen them posting similar whiny threads. Although, I'm not sure how practical that is.
When you have one problem, it often seems insoluable, but when you have two problems, they often solve themselves.
I'm hoping that, as with other games, the "special edition" and otherwise unlockable stuff gets loaded into a free patch once we're past the must-sell-new-copies-to-meet-our-target sales phase for the "gotta catch 'em all" people. It's just mean not to do that, since the people who preorder are basically subsidizing the companies they buy from.

It's not about DLC costing money. People need to start seperating between DLC and Promotional Items.Shattered Shield wrote...
Look DLC is gonna cost money no matter what we say....now i agree with the OP that it was kinda crap how buggy Journey's was and that some of the bugs made u have to replay cuz u didnt get registered for the achievements and i agree wit what everyone else is saying......BUT that does not excuse anyone from bashing eachother......either have a friendly debate or dont talk at all......it ruins the friendly mood of the site when ppl verbally abuse eachother.....damn
Promotional items are just goddamn tacky, cheap, annoying and underhanded.

Take a look at the what Valve is going through trying to get user-made L4D content to Xbox players.

Didn't you just make a thread about how something happened and you were upset because you didnt get all three items, before this thread I mean. Just saying.
Yes. And his first thread was about how he hadn't gotten an e-mail from BioWare for the Lucky Stone item and how dare they screw him out of his hard earned... And so on.

I am totally over the whole unlockable items gig. I recently wasted my time and got cheated out of a couple unlockables in Journeys. That got me pissed and I started thinking. It looks to me like the majority of them are only going to last you for the first few levels, and rightly so. To get uber-powerful items right at the start of the game would jack up the balance. But I am not paying to get a couple of items that I am only gonna use for a few hours. So screw playing Dragon Age: Journeys multiple times to get all the in-game items. I'll play it once for the story (which so far isn't all that spectacular). And screw paying a premium for special editions of the game.
The standard version gets "the Stone Prisoner" quest in the US. As long as I don't have to jump through hoops to get official quests I'll be happy.
I know those grapes are sour anyway.

Let me just say that ****ing and complaining is probably the BEST thing you can do on an official forum. Dev's can take it as constructive criticism and if enough people **** about the same thing then you end up seeing that issue addressed in the game. And for the record, the post mentioned above was posted facetiously and ended up getting a response from a Bioware rep explaining the problem. Simple as that.

I had no problem foregoing the helm from DAJ since having one more "item" isn't going to make or break the game for me in any way, shape, or form. Whining and esentially creating unneeded drama about it seems pretty unnecessary to me but hey I suppose if it makes H8Crime feel better about himself he's entitled.

No, not really. Believe it or not, some of us want to participate in an actual community, not a ****fest by one or two users who feel they are more important than the rest of us.

Not really, no. In general, posts made in public discussion forums have little-to-no bearing on whether something gets changed. It's the issues raised through the proper customer support channels that get things done.
And for the record, the post mentioned above was posted facetiously and ended up getting a response from a Bioware rep explaining the problem.
The same response you'd have got had you gone through the proper channels and asked Customer Service.

That said, I hope they do not hand off DLC duty to another company like they did with Mass Effect's Pinnacle Station. I kept that garbage off of my hard drive to keep Mass Effect immaculate.

They already have a seperate DLC team at BioWare. They're the ones that developed the Stone Prisoner and Warden's Keep.
To be nitpicky, they only partially developed the Stone Prisoner - a good deal, if not all, of it was written and designed by the main dev team. The DLC team put it all together, though, and hooked Shale back into the main campaign, IIRC.

@Jabor: Your right. I'm sure an official forum that the company takes time to moderate and post responses to, has no bearing or effect on decisions the developers might take into consideration. Why don't you tell me an alternate, more effective "channel" where a collective of the community can post issues they have with a particular game.
Here's another.

To voice your opinion, perhaps? I would've maybe put it a bit less confrontational and a fair bit more eloquent than the OP, but we're in general agreement.danabe wrote...
I think i am missing the point or something... You dont like unlockable items form teh journey or CE edition of the game? Fine. That's your choice... What's the point of makeing a thread of it?
I really wish EA would stop thinking that this is good promotional marketing. And to make that known and discuss it with others, a forum is simply the best way.

@Jabor: These channels are not meant for community opinions on the way the game was developed. These are for specific issues or problems.
Such as "problems" with how DLC and promotional items are being handled?
When they want community feedback, they look to the forums and polls on the forums.
This is true. When a developer wants community feedback on a particular issue, they will ask for feedback. Unsolicited whining is still ignored, though.
And you know this is true given that your one and only forum topic is a [Feature Request]
When the Bioware reps set up a board or thread asking for opinions on DLC and promotional items, then sure, whine in there all you like.
Still doesn't mean that clogging up the general discussion with it is going to be effective.

Facts are DAJ support is a useless gmail adress (so sadly, here is the only place to express problems).
DAJ is an half cooked and buggy flash toy designed by marketing; and which alienated about 15% of the people who played it by vaporizing their saves and thus their time.
Now H8Cr1me, their is indeed no need to whine, same happened to me and yes I was pissed off. what I did is simple, warn the people here (play 10 min, quit and log on again to check), and then I just stopped playing DAJ, period.
After all, I am waiting for the great RPG that DAO will hopefully be, not for ridiculously shallow flashgame that offer little rewards as you offer fishes to dolphins. thus it was my bad and my sole stupidity to even start playing such a marketing prank.
