Hello all,

We are looking for beta testers for a utility that will resolve some authentication issues on the PC version of Dragon Age: Origins. We are specifically looking for users with one of these two problems:
  • DLC continuously appears unauthorized.
  • Awakening disappears from your installation.
If you are experiencing these issues, and would like to assist us in resolving them, please send me a PM. I will reply to you with instructions once we are ready to begin testing.

I'm having authorization issues with golem of amgarrak and witch hunt for the past 2 days, been uninstalling and re-installing everyhting over and over and i'm really getting fed up with this since i had the same problems back when i bought return to ostagar and other expansions. Now all others work well no problems there, but i'd like to play the new content since i GOD D*** paid for it.

I, along many others, solved the "DLC's Unauthorization" problem by manually starting the DA Content Updater in services.msc

All the DLC's are now Authorized, EXEPT Witchcraft (Origins) and Witchcraft (Awakening) . I decided to not go into the matter anymore, but if any of you have any idea why these two DLC's are still Unauthorized, I would be happy to hear it.

The EA Live Chat agents that I spoke with yesterday didn't provide any help (surprise..). The first one told me to uninstall the game and reinstall it. I asked him if I needed to download the whole package again, after uninstalling it. He said no. After 5 minutes, he told me that I have to download it all again. Thank you. Another two hours...
The second agent asked me to...uninstall and reinstall.
Did it help? Of course not. Surprise.

It seems like gamers on forums like these are more competent than people who actually get paid for "helping" the players.
How come no agents suggested trying the services.msc fix, since it has proven to work for many people on this forum?

Before telling people to start spending hours of un-installing, re-downloading, re-installing (which, in the end is just a cheap way of buying time and a cruel way of making the player feel like it's his/her fault things are messed up - why not ask them to try some of the solutions that have actually worked for some users?
Remember, it's never the player's fault the software is messed up.

I was just lucky to find the solution on the forum, but many players might not know their way to the forums - what do they do? They spend hours and hours on "help chats" getting codes that won't help and keep on re-installing their game, until they've had it and give up, having spent alot of money in the process. Game Technical Support needs TECH people, not people who says "I am looking into your problem. Please wait 152 hours, and then I might come back and type "OK" here again."

Peace, Love and Technical Understanding :)

Hi Gattsu. I have Windows Vista and I had the same issue. So, it's not a Win 7 problem.

I have the same problem. Bought the Ultimate edition but all the download content except awakening and blood dragon armor are unauthorised. Already reinstalled the updater service and ran it but still the same problem.

I found the EA support to be the worst I have ever come across, and old-days Lucasarts took some beating.

It doesn't help when a title has an above average number of problems like this one. I see fewer problems on installations that don't use mods, but it is not a solid rule.

Managed to get the content "Enabled" after running the content updater manually from services.msc and logging in and out and in again... (if i dont do this, i cant even load my games...)
BUT: content does not appear in game; places don't appear on map, or says unable to load (return to ostagar), no blood armour and gifts and pranks not available to buy... any1 knows how to fix this..?

1. I have this issue and if you want will help test whatever.

2. @Nhemesis No, I don't know how to fix that and may have a similar problem after using that method thought I've yet to load any games. This is just another monument of suck for the DOA team. I give them a hard time about it but I'm hoping my agitation will give fruit to results. If nothing else it will get my frustration out. Now, I don't want to be told "Shut up! You don't know how hard they work." I work hard too and I do my best to do things correctly when I work on something. Regardless, I'm also willing to help work on a solution given the chance. So all you BioWare sycophants can shut up yourselves. :P

I am having the problem where my DLC appears unauthorized.

Edit: I did away with the Manifest.xml files and now only the Witch Hunt, Witch Craft and Golloms of Agmarrak are unauthorized.

Yup, I did the manual install of witch hunt and now only it is unauthorized. Everything else works. What the funk man! lol

EDIT: If you use Vista follow these steps and don't mess with anything else.

1. Click start

2. Type into the search field "msconfig" without the qouations and press enter.

3. Select the "Services" tab in the System Configurarion window.

4. In the list of services locate "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater" It maybe be easier to find if you click on the "Service" colum header which will list the services alphabetically.

5. Make sure the box next to the "Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater" is checked.  If not, then click the box.

6. After checking the box click the "Apply" button at the bottom of the "System Configuration" window.

7. You may now click the "Ok" button or close out of the window, either way, the change should retain after cliking "Apply".

8. Start up Dragon Age and check your content. You may have to log in and out or vice versa and then load a game in order for it all to start functioning. If you see that new downloadable content is available while playing you can exit out to the main menu and download your content. You should also see your purchased content is now authorized.

:D Hope this helps and works for some people. If you can't follow my instructions then maybe I shouldn't be studying a tech support field. lol

Also if you use an older version of windows like XP you may be able to accomplish the same results with the run utility. Simply type msconfig into the field and it should luanch. Here's a picture I found for the laymen to help figure out where to start from if using XP. http://spottedtiger....rt_Menu_Run.jpg

What do I do if the Content Updater doesn't even show up in the list?

Edit: Ok... I had my installation on a different drive than the Updater was on. So I moved it back and now everything is as it should be. But I moved it to the other drive in the first place because my main drive is getting a bit crowded. Hmm...

Hmm You sure you are looking under the Services tab? Try checking the Startup tab, it could possibly be there? In which case you can select it to run every time you reboot.

If you can't find it in either of those lists make sure you still have the file for it.

\\\\Dragon Age\\\\bin_ship\\\\DAUpdaterSvc.Service.exe

If you locate the file you can then attempt to launch it. Check to see if it shows up after that.

EDIT: Just checked the WIKI on it and if you have a Steam version of the game the issue may be different.

Talk about a pain, I'm glad I bought mine of D2D.

Wow, about time.

Just reinstalled DA and going through the unofficial DLC fix FAQ makes playing the game feel like I'm assemblying an IKEA furniture.

Not fun.

Sure they are... Trying to get around the installation failed issue (when I manage to authorise the DLCs I've downloaded) atm, with not much success.

I hope DA2 won't feature this ridicolous ingame downloading DRM client bull****, trying to fire up the game since 7 PM and it's 2 AM soon. Almost finished a book I've been reading while staring at the slowly crawling download bars.

We built 4 wardrobes in 3 hours with my brother, I'd rather do that again. :?
