Last night I installed Awakenings and the whole game has been flaky since then, getting worse and worse until now I can't spend 15 seconds in-game without crashing. BioWare seems to be completely clueless about 64-bit (it doesn't have to be 64-bit code, 32-bit code that is 64-bit "clean" will do just fine), and whatever they did in the update has ruined a perfectly good game that never crashed once in version 1.0 under 64-bit Windows 7, at least on my computer.

News flash BioWare and EA: A large segment of the people who buy high-end games are also running high-end machines with 64-bit operating systems now, and that number is rapidly growing as new gaming machines ship with 64-bit Windows 7 almost exclusively now, even the laptops.

@GlassDeviant I build computers as one of my hobbies and intend to get a degree in an IT related field(still deciding but they have a lot of the same starting classes so whatever). My news flash to you is that new OS always have issues with previous generation games. More likely it's a combination of that and your hardware. If you are a big PC gamer you would have went and made a partition with Vista or XP. Maybe even had a different drive for the second OS. Sometimes you will need the stability of the updated and patched old OS over a brand new one which may have a number of compatibility issues still undiscovered. Just saying, High-End is not the latest and greatest when it's not performing the desired function correctly. So it's your fault you jumped the gun and invested in something you didn't need. This game doesn't require a very high-end card. You can max out all settings on a HD 4890 1GB and run the game with no problems. So congrats on wasting your money bud. If you want good performance on that machine get an SSD ocz or intel. Install win 7. :) With Win 7 an SSD has TRIM support. Anyway, you should also be able to run Dragon Age on win 7, the issue isn't in the bits unless you care to elaborate on where you got this notion.

I just bought Witch Hunt DLC. It continually appears unauthorized after I manually downloaded it from my game promotions screen.

i have a problem with the DLC marked as unauthorized when playing the game offline, it works fine if i play the game logged in with my EA account.

but i read that i should be able to play DLC online even with no internet connection, so something is wrong.

i can start the game online then log out and the DLC still marked as Authorized, the problem is when i start the game offline and the DLC is marked as Unauthorized.

if i go the dragon age config utility under game tab, i dont have any license listed:

i bought the ultimate edition from Impulse.

I am also having a repeated unauthorized issue with the DLC, and if I manage to get that fixed using various work arounds then the Awakening expac vanishes. For whatever reason I keep flopping back and forth between these 2 issues no matter what I try.

@ ALIKATAZO I think the reason that happens to you is because the updater checks your license with the on-line database every time you launch the game or updater service. If you aren't on line then it won't be able to sync the data and marks content unauthorized. Annoying DRM limitation but it's what they picked for financial security in order to prevent theft of product.

Many thanks to Engstrand. When I manually started the updatersvc file, my DLC started downloading/installing properly again.

nope you should be able to play the game DLC offline according to what Moderators have said before, apparently it is an issue related to the windows register, but i dont now how to add the serial code manually so they will show under game tab in the config utility.

"If the DLC is not working correctly for you, please check to see if your cd key is registered with the following.

To check if the user has a proper cd key installed:
1) Run the DA config utility
2) If the left bar navigate to the ‘Game’ section
3) Look at the Product Keys section which is in the lower half of the window.
4) The users DA cd key should be listed here"

Found this, never was an issue for me. I have a D2D version. CD-key is there and everything. Could possibly be that the updater service needs to be run as Admin?

EDIT: Don't know, now I fixed that problem for my self but I didn't even know it was a problem. Go figure. Not sure how it got fixed by what I did but it worked. Ran services.msc and just launched updater, instead of leaving it manual start I set it to automatic. Went in my game and logged out, exited the game. Started game back up and the content still appears enabled.

MORE EDIT: If you installed via DVD then you need to put your disk in and re-enter the code according to what I found. You are talking about your product key, right?

fixed the problem, adding the serial code from dragon age ultimate to windows register, now i can play the DLC offline =D. Impulse needs to fix their installer or dunno if it is Bioware problem.

I actually thought that this problem ( a list of "unauthorised dlc's ) was caused by all the extra mods I have enabled! But I had be playing successfully for over 12 hours and decided to , Start a New Game......
well,  DAO crashed repeatedly on my selecting the Origins 'tab'  after that quasi intelligent notification " a problem has occurred and the game has to close and windows will check for a solution"! I could not start a New Game just kept on majorly crashing. Odd thing is that if I chose to 'resume' the game ,"it" was happy to do this.Bizzare.
I thought I was going to have another major re-install, which I have done twice after Witchhunt glitched on installation (at least it did the first time but I never paid enough attention to the order I reinstalled the addons and the patches, and I I mixed up the two witch dlc's with the more recent one which requires the latest patch 1.04.
However I removed Improved Atmosphere and talent books from override with DA modder and the crash issue seems to have gone away. Also force loading my saved gamed does not appear to be causing any problems.

Also when I  get the  "unauthorised dlc's  message I think that my McAfee antivirus is doing its thing and may be the problem. There are a lot of issues with Win7 64 bit and administrative rights which to me is an ongoing vexation when "I", me is the only person using my computer and would dearly love to be able to 'kill it' and have no guest user and all that double double folder hogwash

When I reinstalled the the installer for Awakening never asked for the identification code, and installed fine. I know that it did ask for this when I first bought Awakening. Is the glitch here because the screen where you input this skipped and has done on the three reinsallations I have done this week in my attempt to have all successfully installed and not a red ! exclamation mark in the game screen interface,

I have had succcess but has taken a lot of hours,

I'd be happy to beta test something to help me with my dlc de-authorizing itself on a regular basis. I've started playing offline since when I try playing online it will de-authorize everything but the most recent dlc I've acquired (return to ostegar) but not any of the stuff I acquired earlier (soldier's peak, blood dragon armor, etc from collector's edition) and I tried some of the fixes but to no effect.

I have the steam version of Dragon age: Origins Collector's Edition. I Do not have awakening at this time.

That's normal, it should luanch with the game once you enable it to run and apply the setting.

Also run services.msc, It should be listead under the same name. Left click on it and select properties. For "Startup type:" drop-down menu select automatic and click the apply button at the bottom. Then left  click on the service again and select start. Try luanching the game after that and see if the dlc starts to work properly.

Hello Victor,
After seemingly random times of the same 2 DLCs becoming unauthorized and preventing me from resuming a save game I decided to hunt down the live chat help who resolved the issues of authorization by instructing me to follow the instructions here http://support.ea.co...a_id/218/kw/218 .However, I immediately noticed the game no longer acknowledged the existance of the Awakenings campaign on my system. So, I have experienced both symptoms you are seeking but I have just performed a manual uninstall and system reboot, now currently in the process of reinstalling with fingers crossed. If things do not go well you will receive a PM from me soon.

*edit* For conclusion and other people experiencing the same, manual uninstall (http://support.ea.co...n age uninstall) and reinstall while the firewall was disabled did resolve both of these issues on my vista machine.

Well, it has certainly prevented purchasing or playing the product in my case. I bought Origins and the Ultimate edition on ps3, and then I was aching to get the pc version for my new comp; but online DRM activation - especially faulty, buggy online activation - is the ONLY thing between me and buying this game. You know, just so Bioware knows. Don't worry, I won't pirate it, I just now bought The Witcher instead. No DRM on that.

(Didn't mean to pick you out, but I was researching DRM for this game and I just decided not to buy it right before I read your post.)

@falloutgod13 Before you go spouting off manically, you should know that
I have been doing what you only plan to do for more than twenty years. I
have diplomas, degrees and certifications in IT and related disciplines
wallpapering my office. And you really need to read what you write
before you post it, since you both criticize using the "latest and
greatest" and recommend it (HD 4890, SSD, Windows 7), contradicting yourself in the same run-on paragraph.

News flash to you: An
HD 4890 may not be the best, but it is still in the top 10 of 2010 graphics
cards
(http://www.tomshardw...igins,2471.html),
so saying you can max it out is not impressing anyone, even with the more demanding graphics of Awakenings/1.04 as compared to Origins/1.0. Also no SSD is
going to change the performance of the game engine at all, it only
quickens loading time, something you should really know if you are
building gaming systems for anyone.

You also made an unfounded
assumption that because I referred to gamers as using "high end"
machines that I meant the latest and greatest of everything, and that I
specifically was using such. I only indicated that gamers tend to use
high end computers. There is nothing bleeding edge in my computer, but
compared to the average home computer it is still fairly high end.

64-bit is not new. It was around before Windows had it, and Windows has
had it for the last three consumer operating systems, XP, Vista and 7.
Plenty of games, newer and older than the original DAO, are 64-bit
clean, though they are 32-bit executables so that they will run on both
bit widths. This shows that many game developers are aware of and
consider it useful to code for the widest possible user base. Another
thing Dragon Age does not appear to work well with is SLI, which has
been out plenty long enough for developers to know they need to code for
it. As it is, I have had to dedicate one GPU to PhysX and use only one
for video, cutting graphics performance nearly in half.

Find installutil.exe on your computer and copy it to the directory where daupdatersvc.service.exe is.

Open a cmd prompt and CD to the directory where buth files are now located together.

Type the following:

   installutil daupdatersvc.service.exe

and hit Enter.

Go into Services Manager and ensure that Dragon Age: Origins - Content Updater is now present and set to Manual startup.

As for why they chose to make this a service, don't even ask, I have no idea. It is completely unnecessary and against Microsoft developer recommendations.

Well now you went and assumed some stuff also. :P I know what an SSD does for performance. Anyway, it's all x64 and X86 relative when it comes to software. Considering most processors now days are able to handle both 32-bit code and 64 bit code I'm not sure what you're referring to. Is there something I can read about that? Since you're experienced in the field at least be kind enough to throw me a bone here. Thanks.

Also, HD 4890 isn't latest an greatest. I recommended the SSD boot drive because I thought you liked latest and greatest stuff. Well, at least your post came off that way. But It's not really relevant. I'm really just intersted in learning more about this code issue you are referring to.
