Opinions about the art direction

Seriously, they look like generic 80's fodder you'd expect to see He Man kicking around. Skeletor, come pick your goons up. I half expect to see fist fights with "BAM", "CRACK" and "BONK" appear on the screen when you land a hit. You went from frightening terrors to wiley meth heads without lips. WTF??
1. Does anyone think these things are an improvement? Why? And please tell us what you are smoking.
Dwarves = hobbits? They are no longer bulky and look like human midgets. Why the hell would you do this, Bioware? A midget human is not a dwarf.
2. Do you prefer the midget look?
And now the Qunari are all demon kin. Yeah, that's what they are. And it's not just the horns (even though they are way to big... Turians will probably have 4 arms in ME3). They look like they should all be in loincloth carrying clubs, stratching their butts, picking their nose, eating their own boogers and saying things like "Duuurrrr, me smash you!" Their low brow and slouched posture looks uncultured and uncivilized... the opposite of how they were established in DAO. "some qunari cut their horns off", "some are born without horns"... Riiiight, and some humans are born with 5 eyes and some with 2. Sten was just a tall human afterall?
3. What do you think of this new look?
I don't think they look bad (like the ridiculous hurlocks). It's just that the lack of consistency is alarming.
Only the elves were left alone, for the most part. Ears that stick out awat fromn the head (like FFXI elvan) aren't all that bad.

Seriously, folks, we've been down this road before. It probably doesn't need re-hashing.

Actually we did. The horns were removed largely because of Sten being in the party.PsychoBlonde wrote...
And you may have noticed that no one is claiming that Bioware DID originally envision Qunari as having horns.
I'm not saying we included that in the lore or what have you, because we weren't sure they would come back, but they did, so we decided to own it. I'm still pleased that the ogre > Qunari broodmother thing is in Origins, since that helps lend some credence to the whole thing.
It means the devs would like to maintain some internal consistency with the world, is all.
And we'd like to have horned Qunari without having to glue some on to Sten. If he appears again (He just might, ya know!), he won't have horns.

It wouldn't bother me if it changed but, in this hypothetical cameo, would he still be bronze-y colored? I forsee forum rage if that is not the case. (Which makes me want to see it changed all the more.)
I just wonder if the bronze would be gone or now one of many possible Qunari skin tones.
Still in. Sten's too cool to not be bronze.
And I'm pretty much immune to forum rage. I DID, however, get to tick off a box in my anger bingo when someone called me an "ass wipe" of all things. Woo! Retro!

The Qunari thing is kinda lame though, it'd be understandable if they had horns, but do they have to look like demons?
The screenshots and trailers hint that the Qunari might well be the one of the main antagonists in DA:2. Thus, they had to be dehumanized to reduce player qualms about hitting them.
This would seem to be at odds with giving us a second qunari companion.
An additional point: when has DA ever been squeamish about killing humans?
...or spattering their daughters with their blood... in certain specific cases.

Then we released the pictures of the DA2 Qunari and suddenly a lightbulb went on. It was a great 'Ohhhhh, THAT'S what that is' moment.

What does Sten being in the party have to do with rather or not Qunari had horns in DA:O?
Helmets.

The problem is a unique helmet design. Esssentially, you would have to reskin every helmet as a qunari appropriate helmet instead of just changing the size a little.
Correct. The way out system works is the helmet-- like the hair-- replaces that portion of a model's skull instead of simply sitting on top of it (which would allow the horns to clip through, I suppose?). So in DAO we would have needed a Sten-specific version of every equippable helmet... or simply disallowed him to equip any helmet, I suppose. I don't remember the whole argument. I think it was one of those things that came at a time when there was no time to really find a graceful solution-- one of the realities of game development, I fear.

I believe one of the benefits of having
unique armored companions and not having one size fits all armor is that
companions will now have their own unique body type. So I imagine that
this might fix the problem of helmets/qunari. Or I could be totally
wrong
Correct. You won't be equipping helmets on a companion, so we don't need to worry about what happens to their pretty little head. They can be as unique as we like.
