Stuck in Lower Ruins of Elven Tombs.

I'm currently a little... well, lost in the Lower ruins.
I'm trying to make my way to kill witherfang and because the werewolves barred the door I can't get in the easy way.
So I went around the back, killed my first dragon (after having to change to easy!), then have gone deaper until I'm now stuck.
In one direction there is a large room with some sort of undead mage and undead warrior skeletons etc that soon wipe me out (I can't even get close to the mage/sorceror)
In the other, a locked door, a pond and an altar with an earthen jug...
Now I've tried kneeling at the altar, Sitting the jug on top, drinking from the jug etc, nothing seems to do much apart from 'feeling odd' and making the water boil.. before being attacked by a couple of shades.
Now I can't seem to get really any response...
Anyone have any ideas to help out ?
Thanks!

Yep already passed through that room, now I'm at one with some sort of sorcerer and a group of undead skeleton
Yep, it's a nasty part there. Is this the first big storyline you're going through? Because the Circle part is much easier to start off with. I found that the first storyline is hard anyway, because you still haven't got your party/setup/gear optimized.

what do you mean about the first big storyline ? This is the first time playing... I've been to redcliffe, managed to defend the village, just... but had to leave cus the castle part was far too difficult for me at that stage so I went to the elven forest part
You have to convince the Dalish, the Magi and the Dwarves to help out. Plus you need to do the Redcliffe castle part. That's 4 big and long storylines (not side quests). That's what I meant. Sorry, I'm a bit fuzzy today
Also, you do have the patch installed, right?

Got past the sorcerer thing... Just pulled the other ones away from him and it was quite easy.
Now onto the rest of it

Indeed, pulling is something you will be doing a lot. Also, tons of crowd control (paralyze, stun, etc.) is your friend as well.

Or combine Cone of Cold with anything that gives (or at least raises the chances of) critical hits. Like the warrior's Overpower. It's all I've been doing: *take a good strategic position* *cast Cone of Cold at the right moment* *use Overpower* etc. I barely need heals, except for the odd potion now and then, or Drain Life (I'm playing a mage mostly, at the moment). Since I started doing this, I'm breezing through. But it's a bit boring.

I managed to finish the storyline for the werewolves and elves.
Managed to do it peacefully... looks like Lothering was overrun by the blight.
At the Circle of whatever now lol

Ooh, I'll be around for another hour or so. Come back here if you get stuck at the Mage tower, it's still fresh in my mind.
