All these points could be addressed in a mature, less offensive manner, you know?

Metalcraze does have a point, taking the "Douchenozzle" precedent into account.

Since I don't have the skills to argue a point as well as David Gaider, I give you...

@Avilia: That thread...is so much win.

Alistair is one of the main reasons I played the game a second time, and the second time through made me want to play a third time, etc. I thought his grief was completely understandable. When you lose someone you love it's really damn hard to deal with, he handled it amazingly well in my opinion.

With that said, you always have the option of ignoring him and leaving him in camp if you dislike him so much. The good thing about Dragon Age is if you don't like a certain character, you don't have to deal with them much.

Oh wow, he did. I'd read the posts in that link before but I wasn't really paying much attention to who he was responding to since it's such an old thread and I somehow missed that.

yeah I can leave him i camp and then he verbally attacked me and called me a bad grey warden as h refused to take control of the group Why are we supposed to have sympathy for him when he is so self absorbed he doesn't even realise the warden he is yelling at is doing his best to be a grey warden with no help after his family died.
wow that Gaider guy really seems to like Alistair even to the point of alienating that player. I say If Alistair is an emotional guy he would care what the other wardens have been through.
My casteless dwarf loved Duncan for saving him and was just as devastated so He tried to honor his memory by stopping the blight. And who says I refuse to make any decisions at all but I will criticize yours. plus the fact that he doesn't inform you you will be childless and die in thirty years until you ask him a bunch of questions then he get angry you're upset

Okay...

Though I do think that Alistair whines a bit too much about his childhood problems, I do not resent him SO much that I want him out of my team.

Most of his conversations end up with "BOOHOO DUNCAAAAAAAAAN!11!1!!!1ONE!1!!11SHIFT!ONE!11!1" and make him go BAWWWWWWW when he goes to sleep.

Sure, the first couple of times I can live with that. I'll just try to cheer him up. But if you keep dwelling on it then I'm starting to get annoyed. And that's when I start to get mean.

he is so self absorbed he doesn't even realise the warden he is yelling at is doing his best to be a grey warden with no help after his family died.

He never indicates that he doesn't think you're doing the best you can. If you're talking about the Isolde situation, he wants you to take the miracle Tower option where Eamon doesn't have to lose his wife or his son because Eamon's important to him (God knows why) and because he doesn't want Eamon to blame him for failing to save them. There are compelling reasons not to risk going to the Tower and Alistair acknowledges that when he's all 'I wouldn't normally suggest killing a child...' before a decision is made but that doesn't make him any happier about being forced to kill Connor or Isolde. You made the decision and he hates the situation so he's just venting. If you handle the conversation right, he'll even apologize for yelling at you. It's not logical at all but under the circumstances, I can't blame him for being upset and yelling at you about it.

I say If Alistair is an emotional guy he would care what the other wardens have been through.

Emotional does not necessarily mean empathetic, you know, and I think it's kind of petty to have a 'whose life sucks worse' competition. If your life was the only one to fall apart and Alistair's was just fine then he would probably be a lot more concerned about your problems and if your life was just great while Alistair had lost everybody, you'd be a lot more sympathetic towards him.

My casteless dwarf loved Duncan for saving him and was just as devastated so He tried to honor his memory by stopping the blight.

...And Alistair also tries to stop the Blight up until the point you spare Loghain. Are you now trying to claim that your Warden's grief over losing a guy they knew for a few weeks is greater than Alistair's? Leave him something, will you?

It's not about who's life sucks worse it's that you can symathise with him and he doesn't for you the only way you get even a little human feeling from him is when he is in a romance with you and my castless lost the wardens who he pledged his life to he has nothing else but being a warden.plys how are the warden honarable they recruit murderers.
I gleefully offed Train and duncan accepted it.

That's not at all true.  But I do think the Alistair that you end up with is the one you create by the way you treat him.

I suggest you really read Gaider's posts on the subject.  No one knows the character of Alistair better than David Gaider.

Not really even my male characters end up pretty close to Alistair (it is a pain getting his approval up as a male though).

Ah.  Well, I guess you would know more about the character than the man who created him.   Very well.  Carry on with your hatred.

lol I think it's more a matter of opinion don't you? why am I not free to say this character could be better?
after all Alistair helped me slaughter a whole band of elves and never spoke up but felt bad about Isolde?
why is it ok to rant about any character but Alistair why is he immune? Alistair should be more like Roirdan now there is a hero. and he created Zevran too didn't he and I am crazy about him.
