Yeah, but honestly we should take this discussion into the Ali-thread ;)

Edit ToP:

Aimo's Alicorn is adorable. What? It is an Alistair thread, and since we have taken over, why no ToP

You know what I find funny about this. Whenever there's something important I have to decide and my instinct tells me one thing, logic another..... my instinct is 99% right. And I end up kicking myself for not going with my instinct. Women's intuition? *shrugs* :P

I guess that's what contributed to the belief that men are creatures of logic while women are intuitive beings :P

(I do not believe this btw)

Actually my husband is this way as well. Although he couches it as "I knew I should have..... instead of...."

Then I throw the women's intuition at him and he just grumbles and turns on football or something to prove he's a real man. *grins*

You aren't reading.  No one is saying they hate you.  I just suggested that you try communicating in sentences if you want people to take you seriously.

Sorry let me revises that

Should we trust logic or trust our basic instincts?

It really, really, really depends on the situation.

When a car salesman is telling you that he's got another couple looking at the car you're eyeing, and you suddenly feel like you have to hurry now to buy the car now or else oh no you will lose it and never have another car ever, don't trust your instincts.  The car salesman is manipulating them.

When you feel like surely, the very next pull of the lever (or *cough* load of the random encounter *cough*) will bring you the reward you're seeking, don't trust your instincts.

When someone is giving you a very bad feeling but you stop to answer their questions because you have to be 'nice', trust your instincts and keep walking.

When faced with a decision that looks, rationally, like the right thing to do, but you spend night after night worrying over it, trust your instincts.  There's something you didn't factor into the analysis that's a major factor.

There's a whole literature out there on how we make decisions, when we're risk averse and when we're risk tolerant, when that's rational and when that's not, and so forth.  There's good evidence that your "instincts" or uneasy feelings about a decision are a brain-based aggregation technique to do some sort of rough multi-parameter optimization.  (And multi-parameter optimization, in psychology or engineering, its its own subtopic.)  There's also lots and lots of evidence that your instincts break down under certain conditions (generally in assessing unlikely events).

I can provide references on Monday, if anyone wants a reading list. From what I dimly recall, Google "Kahneman and Tversky" and "Gigerenzer" for a good start on two competing points of view on human decision making.  They had an academic slap-fight that was pretty epic.

I personally believe this thread saw more discussion than fail.

No one is hating you. Everyone has the right to voice their opinions. There are just ways that are more preferrable than others.

Ah going into the defensive when you can't find a reason to defend you reason why Alistair is an aweful party member.
I have to say I was expecting a attack. But I never said anything about your looks of your character I only said as a fellow pigtail character warden, you with the bad comments is giving a bad name to the pigtails due to the flamebaiting.

And once again you fail at reading things properly. At that point I'm ceased to be surprised, though.

Umm ... no.  No one is really upset.  You get called a hater because you labelled yourself a hater.  *points at thread title*  And I was just suggesting that you try using sentence structure, which you haven't if you want people to take you seriously.  People are commenting on your character portrait because you brought physical appearance into the discussion.

Again, if you wanted to have a discussion, discuss.  Don't just make statements about you hate this and you hate that and you hate being called a hater.

*edited because it's late enough that I'm losing my ability to type coherently.  :P

Frankly said; to argument. Or to register arguments and take part in them, that you can be taken _serious_ ... instead of mere complaining about people insulting your avatar. Which is not the case as Tori has justly explained.

Oh well...

To be fair, "hater" is often used as a derogatory term to dismiss the other view point in the context of a discussion (which the op did not initiate as well as we would have liked, granted). Maybe we should avoid using the term, as it ends up polarizing the whole thing into "fanboys/girls" vs "haters", which ends up being not so fun after a while.

Now I do hate alistair but you will notice I did talk about his good points too

and I commented on the characters in game that look a lot older than they should and seem to have repetitive haircuts. I also notice that ppl were saying alistair is blonde in fanfic when his hair looks brown in my game. It's fantasy why not have a pretty world lol. and yes my characters are completely horrible looking which causes me no end of frustration.

Fanfic isn't necessarily correct.  Alistair's hair is light brown.  Nothing wrong with that.  Brown =/=ugly.  I wouldn't hate any character in the game because of their looks.  Actually, I don't hate any character at all.  Eamon's not my favorite.  Neither is Wynne.  Howe is nasty, and my human noble characters hate him.  But he adds color and drama to the game, and that's not a bad thing.

Exactly I read a fanfic where they just decided to both keep seeing the female noble It was impressively steamy and just a good idea for all involved

For all his faults I <3 Alistair as much as I do Morrigan. They both have major issues that can cause all sorts of problems towards the end there no matter how much you've cared for them. And yes it is heartbreaking getting to know that ex-templar in training bastard over dozens of hours of gameplay just for him to throw a fit you didn't see coming even through he told you upfront before you set one foot in Lothering that he expected furious vengeance for those that left you all to die.

So yeah, Loghain left you also to die. Flemeth saved just you and Alistair because you were divorced enough from the main battle, and had that new Warden smell. Which apparently smells of cheese and depression. So yes I get pissed when I have to pick between pleasing my buddy and sparing my enemy.

And this is what makes the game so good. There are parts (and characters) that really disturb me, parts that make me angry, and parts that I squee or cry over. I haven't done that in a long time with the games I play.
