Will Hawke´s armors be also upgradeble?. There were a few armors in Origins I thought fitted the character (such as Ancient Elven Armor for Dalish) but were not powerful enough for the mid-late game.

From what i understand companion armours aren't upgradeable, they just find stronger versions which for the most part look just like their older armour, similar how Morrigan can get a better robe that looks like her starting one.

Hawke is supposed to have inventory like in DAO so it'll be probably down to finding stronger armours like in DAO too, no upgrades to existing item.

And if each character in DA2 uses a unqiue model, then we'll have a justification.

They could just tell us this.  But they aren't.  I wonder if maybe that's because it isn't true.

I'm sure most characters have a generic rig (it may even be Hawke's rig). Party NPCs have a custom rig, however. Maybe so would story critical NPCs.

In practice, Bioware is likely of the belief that visually distinct apperance > ability to customize that apperance for the party.

I haven't seen this anywhere else, so I copied down a partial transcript of the most recent podcast. Link.

Do they?  Have we been told this?

This would answer a lot of questions.

Mr.Gaider implied something to that effect in one of his replies. Think he did acknowledge it's just his take on it and not something he's involved in directly as expert. So hard to determine, overall.

That's going to make it really hard to mod outfits.

So I guess the companions armors will work like Morrigans two different stat versions of armor but look the same and we can't change their armor look? ok...well that's a downer for me and I don't care if it's been said lots of times, it does feel like they have ME'ed the companions. I like being able to customize my party NPC's.

I know I will still buy it to try it but it's like they are trying to get away from Origins as far as they can with no return which is a lil sad.

I also fear this will mean NO tool set if they plan on offering different party armors as bought DLC. I would dearly loved to be proved wrong though.

That is assuming we'll get a toolset

Good podcast.

All sounds good to me.
The ability to equip and change Hawke is just like it is in DAO is great.

I like that the companions have a unique outfit. It keeps them in character and the fact you can upgrade them with dropped and bought parts is a good improvement. I just hope the actual armor gfx change slightly to show the upgrades.

The fact that you can still add accessories and weapons to them is great.

That they have their own specialized talent tree is great.

Pretty much all the companion changes ive read/heard about i agree with because I believe its an improvement on DAO in that our companions keep their own identity and character rather than us (Hawke) making them into "generic rogue #2".

The ME2 companion system was ok but had so much untapped potential that it looks like DA2 is going to take advantage of. It's not to everyones taste but thats life and you cant please everyone.
It seems to me that BW want their companions to have their own character while keeping a degree of customization, and i applaud them for it.

2 Thumbs up BioWare :)

You don't need a toolset to mod the outfits.  It just makes it a lot easier.

We have a winner! Retextures aren't done in the toolset. Even new models can be added without the toolset. (Toolset tells you if it'll work in-game though.)

Plus the toolset gives you easier access to the models already in the game, so you can work from them.

This would be especially helpful if each companion has a unique model.

Something else..

In the podcast it is said that Isabela can do backstabs (because she is a rogue).. I thought backstabs were removed from the game? o.o

I think it was meant as an example of a selectable attack that could be upgraded specifically, rather than the way it was in Origins where placing a rogue behind an enemy meant that they switched from standard attack to constant backstab.  Although, I might be thinking of the wrong part of the podcast.  I think what they've removed is the backstab spam thing we had before.

My thoughts for what it's worth:

I would like to see the armor evolve as more upgrades are applied.

I don't want to see situations where for example Bethany wearing the exact same outfit at the end of game as the beginning, considering ten years have past.

I would like if the companions change outfits into townwear when based in Kirkwall or wherever. Would also like if these outfits change as characters situations change. For example Varric won't start out as merchant prince.

Finally love still being able to make Hawke exactly what I want,
